Comparison between different modeling techniques for assessing the role of environmental variables in predicting the catches of major pelagic fishes off India’s north-west coast 评估环境变量在预测印度西北海岸主要远洋鱼类捕获量中的作用的不同建模技术之间的比较

The contribution of four variables, namely Chlorophyll -a (Chl- a ), Sea Surface Temperature (SST), diffuse attenuation coefficient (Kd_490 or Kd), and Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), in predicting the catches of major pelagic fish species (Indian mackerel, horse mackerel, Bombay duck, oil sardine, and other sardines) was evaluated using Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA). The outcome of the analysis was compared with those obtained by using the following models and methods: the Generalized Linear Model (GLM), the Generalized Additive Model (GAM), connection weight methods, and the explanatory methods of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). Both the sets of results were in agreement. Neither the GAM nor the ANNs method showed any clear advantage over each other, although the GAM performed better than the GLM.

The VF-PSO optimization algorithm for coverage and deployment of underwater wireless sensor network 水下无线传感器网络覆盖与部署的VF-PSO优化算法

Coverage is a factor to reflect the network service quality of the Underwater Wireless Sensor Network (UWSN). Existing UWSN has problems of void-hole and low coverage, which is reducing UWSN lifetime and ability to monitor deployment areas. To improve network coverage and network lifetime, a coverage optimization method based on virtual force and particle swarm optimization (VF-PSO) is proposed in this article. By action of virtual force, the underwater mobile nodes would move to a better position to improve network coverage in this method. For the VF-PSO algorithm, the virtual force can guide the optimization of particles and accelerate the convergence of particles to the global optimal solution. This algorithm could not only optimize the movement trend of nodes to maximize the coverage ratio but also adjust the node distance threshold to reduce the network coverage redundancy. Simulation presents that compared with other typical algorithms, VF-PSO can improve the network connectivity and coverage of the UWSN area, and effectively avoid the network void-hole problem.

Puffer proliferation in tropical coastal waters: influence of indiscriminate trawling 热带沿海水域的河豚繁殖:不分青红皂白拖网捕鱼的影响

Intensive mechanized fishing has induced marked alterations in coastal marine ecosystems resulting in proliferation of low-value, nuisance species in marine fish catches. Assessment of 75 shrimp trawl catches taken in the near-shore waters off Goa, west coast of India during active fishing periods from 2006 – 2008 revealed that the demersal pufferfish, Lagocephalus spadiceus constituted ≈ 27 % by weight of the trawl catch during January – March, and its catch was inversely related to prey and predator species. Sub-tidal rock reefs and submerged rocky patches in the study area offer suitable substrates for spawning, and the predominance of adults during these months suggesting spawning migration. Comparison of the present data with published literature indicates a significant reduction in puffer predators (catfishes). Excessive removal of high-value predators favours the proliferation of pufferfish and its establishment as a meso-predator, probably triggering a potential trophic cascade. The paper discusses the role of removal of High Trophic Level (HTL) species in the proliferation of a meso-predator and its impact on ecosystem function.

A clupeid group (Hilsa) in the Indian sub-continent is represented by three species viz ., Tenualosa toli , T. ilisha and Hilsa kelee , which has great economic significance for the fishers. Tenualosa toil is observed to have narrow distribution in the Indian sub-continent, along with vulnerability status. The present study describes the morphological and meristic features of T. toli collected from the Narmada estuary, Gujarat, India. A single specimen was collected from the bag net catches (10 mm cod-end mesh size) - from Bhadbhut fishing site in December 2019. The size of specimen with a total length of 298 mm, standard length of 224 mm, and weight of 214 g. The morphometric and meristic characters were assessed and compared with other published literature. The present investigation of T. toli suggested that immediate measures should be adopted to rejuvenate the species in the aquatic habitats.

Bacterial and archaeal communities in near-surface marine sediments from İzmir Bay (Eastern Aegean Sea), using Quantitative PCR İzmir湾(东爱琴海)近表层海洋沉积物中细菌和古细菌群落的定量PCR分析

Marine sediments are good sources of both subsistent and anthropogenic ingredients. Recently, an assessment of phylogenetic analysis at the genotypic and molecular levels has revealed the phylogenetic relationships of the prokaryotes. In our study, samples were collected from the surface of sediments in the İ zmir Bay, located in the eastern Aegean Sea and surrounded by the coastal city of İ zmir. Total genomic DNA was extracted from 0.25 g sediment of each sample and used in real-time qPCR to detect 16S rDNA genes of archaea, bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria, Desulfobulbus , and Desulfosarcina - Desulfococcus . Our results showed that the maximum number of all samples was found in bacterial primers (1.24×10 9 DNA copy numbers/g), while the minimum number was observed in Desulfosarcina-Desulfococcus primers (1.17×10 2 DNA copy numbers/g). Consequently, genetic studies should focus on investigating the abundance levels of seasonal and annual microbial groups in future studies. analyzed by real-time PCR were identified as a comparative This study was conducted in shallow and deeply buried sediments, and real-time qPCR was used to quantify various groups of microbial primers. The number of copies of the genes of Geobacteraceae and the sulfate-reducing prokaryotes was 10 6 – 10 8 cm -3 gene copies in the sediments. Unlike the present study, Schippers and Neretin 19 examined sulfate-reducing bacteria and common bacteria according to different genes, besides the abundance of Geobacteraceae and prokaryotes. The results of our study were similar in the number of DNA copies of sulfate-reducing bacteria and common bacteria 19 . q-PCR analysis was performed by Einen et al. 40 to quantify and detect archaea and bacteria existing in the glass shell of seabed basalts of different ages and water depths. Results of this study showed that the total number of cells present in the basalt ranged from 6×10 5 to 4×10 6 cells per gram of basalt glass. The samples were taken from different ages and water depths, however, no significant differences were found in the concentrations or relative abundance of archaea and bacteria. Total genomic DNA was extracted from 0.25 g sediment of each sample and used in real-time qPCR to detect 16S rDNA genes of archaea, bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria, Desulfobulbus , and Desulfosarcina - Desulfococcus .
