The accuracy of the digital impression method is responsible for fabricating crowns with adequate marginal fit which in turn determines the postendodontic prognosis. This systematic review was undertaken to identify the influence of the two digital impression techniques in producing full coverage crowns with better marginal fit. This systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis statement. A detailed search was done in electronic databases (PubMed, EBSCOhost, LILACS, Cochrane) along with hand searches of reference articles. In vivo crossover studies comparing the marginal fit of the computer-aided design-computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) fabricated crowns from direct and indirect digital impressions published from inception till July 2023 were included in this review. The quality assessment of the included articles was done based on a modified Cochrane collaboration tool for crossover studies. A total of 280 articles were identified, after duplicate removal, title and abstract screening, and full-text evaluation, 7 articles were included in this systematic review. The overall quality of evidence is moderate. The CAD-CAM crowns fabricated from direct digital impressions exhibited a better marginal fit than those crowns fabricated by indirect digital impressions. The overall quality of evidence is moderate. Further clinical studies has to be conducted for evaluating the latest technologies towards achieving the misfit of zero.

The COVID-19 infection has become a pandemic after breaking out in China in the past months of 2019 and spreading rapidly worldwide. To counter this pandemic, several governments worldwide have taken several drastic measures to try to stop the spread of the virus, including a very strict lockdown that has caused a sudden and, in many cases, negative change in people’s daily lives. In the literature, several studies have shown how the pandemic has significantly impaired many people’s mental health, causing short- and long-term stress, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the parafunctions of the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles, which in turn, have led to an increase in the incidence of fractures and dental injuries. The ultimate goal is to understand the best choice the dentist must make in the preventive and therapeutic fields. A questionnaire called “Incidence of tooth fractures during the COVID-19 pandemic” was prepared using the Google® Forms platform. This questionnaire consists of 13 questions. This electronic questionnaire was addressed to all dentists in the Campania Region (ITA) and disseminated through social networks such as WhatsApp® or Facebook® or E-mail. A total of 730 dentists completed the survey. Of these, 450 (61.7%) stated that the number of patients reporting muscle and joint pain in the morning had increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. 414 (56.7%) dentists noted an increase in parafunction and 392 (53.6%) an increase in dental fractures during the pandemic period. As can be seen from the study results, an important correlation was found between the stress resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and dental fractures. The dental elements treated endodontically, depending on the extent of the damage, require restoration, which is also the best preventive strategy in the case of dental fractures.

Calcium hydroxide, which is an intracanal medicament, is widely used in endodontics. Improvements can be made to its effectiveness, as calcium hydroxide is dependent on the vehicle. The study aims to compare and evaluate the release and diffusion ability of calcium hydroxide when mixed with – propolis, chitosan, and propylene glycol. For this study, 33 single-rooted extracted premolar teeth have been decoronated. After the working length and enlargement of the canals had been established, different preparations of calcium hydroxide with vehicles such as propolis, chitosan, and propylene glycol were loaded into the canals. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry was used to analyze the release of calcium ions in three groups, while a digital pH meter was used to determine an acid change. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry showed sustained releases of calcium ions and the digital pH meter showed increased diffusion capacity in the propylene glycol paste group in comparison to the other two groups. Propylene glycol vehicle made it easier to enter calcium hydroxide into the dentinal tubules.

The aim of the study is to evaluate and compare the shear bond strength (SBS) and modes of failure of different reinforced glass ionomer cement restorative materials such as GC IX, GC Gold Label 2 LC, Amalgomer CR, Equia Forte, and Secure Core Z to TheraCal LC. A total of 50 acrylic blocks, each containing a cylindrical hole in the center were prepared from self-cure acrylic resin and randomly divided into five groups and restored, namely Group A - TheraCal LC + GC Fuji IX, Group B - TheraCal LC + GC Gold Label 2 LC, Group C - TheraCal LC + Amalgomer CR, Group D - TheraCal LC + Equia Forte, and Group E - TheraCal LC + Secure Core Z. All the specimens were stored in artificial saliva at 37°C for 24 h before testing. The statistical tests used for the analysis of the result were: one-way ANOVA, Tukey multiple comparison test, and the Chi-squared test, and P < 0.05 is considered as the level of significance. Equia Forte showed the highest SBS, while GC type IX showed the lowest SBS with TheraCal LC. Equia Forte can be the restorative material of choice when TheraCal LC is used as a base materials for better clinical efficacy.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the color stability of two composite resins after exposure to beverages such as Cola, Pepsi, Red Bull, and distilled water after 15 days. The color stability of a microhybrid and nanohybrid composite was evaluated after storage in distilled water, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Red Bull for 15 days. Color measurement was done using a reflectance spectrophotometer based on the CIE L*a*b* color scale. All tested resin composites showed color change after a period of 15 days. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey post hoc were done to assess the significance of color change within the group and an independent t-test was done to assess the change between micro and nanohybrid composite. Among the resin composites studied, microhybrid composite was found to be more color stable. The microhybrid and nanohybrid composite discolored most in Coca-Cola and Pepsi. In both groups, distilled water showed very less color change. Every endeavor should be undertaken to minimize the potential for discoloration in composite restorations by employing meticulous polishing techniques and also to use newer composite material with submicron particles. Furthermore, it is imperative to educate patients about the likelihood of the restoration being susceptible to staining from various beverages.

The aim of this study was to systematically compare the bond strength of self-adhesive and self-etch or total-etch resin cement to zirconia. The PubMed, ISI (all), and Scopus databases were searched for the selected keywords up to November 1, 2021, without date or language restrictions. In vitro studies comparing the bond strength of self-adhesive and self-etch or total-etch resin cement to zirconia were eligible for inclusion in the study. The selected articles were divided into four groups based on the type of resin cement and the storage time. Statistical analysis was performed using the Biostat Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software version 2 (α = 0.05). The effect of conventional cement ( Glass Ionomer (GI), Resin Modified Glass Ionomer (RMGI) and zinc phosphate) was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The initial search yielded 376 articles, of which 26 were selected after a methodological assessment. Two reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the risk of bias. The results showed that the immediate or delay bond strength of the self-adhesive resin cement to zirconia has no significant difference with the bond strength of self-etch resin cement to zirconia. The immediate and delay bond strength of total-etch cement-zirconia was significantly lower than that of self-adhesive cement-zirconia (P = 0.00). A descriptive analysis of the selected articles showed that the bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement to zirconia was significantly higher than total-etch cement. The results of the meta-analysis showed that both self-adhesive and self-etch resin cement (if applied according to their manufacturer’s instruction) are suitable for bonding to zirconia.

Composites with 0.2% chitosan nanoparticles (CSN) are used recently; however, this combination needs to be studied in different cavity designs. The aim of the study was to compare the fracture resistance of maxillary premolars with different cavity geometries restored with different types of composite resins incorporated with 0.2% CSN. About 130 extracted human single-rooted maxillary premolars were embedded in acrylic molds 2 mm below cementoenamel junction, divided into five groups for cavity preparations of standardized dimensions. Group 1: (control) intact teeth (n = 10), Group 2: Class I cavities (n = 40), Group 3: Class II mesio-occlusal (MO) (n = 40), Group 4: Class II mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) (n = 40). Groups 2, 3, and 4 were subdivided into four subgroups for composite restoration; A: Neo spectra ST-Universal (NST); B: Tetric N-Ceram Bulk-fill (TNC); C: NST + CSN; and D: TNC + CSN and tested for fracture resistance using universal testing machine. One-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey’s tests were used for data analysis (P ≤ 0.05). In all groups, the highest fracture resistance was found in MOD cavities, followed by MO and least in Class I cavities. Subgroup D (TNC with CSN) showed the highest fracture resistance in all groups (P ≤ 0.05). Tetric N-Ceramic bulk fill with 0.25% CSN showed high fracture resistance in cavities with different geometries.
