"The Ultimate Nursing-Sensitive Indicator Showdown" project aimed to enhance nursing and unlicensed personnel's knowledge and improve nursing-sensitive indicator outcomes through gamified education. The initiative focused on preventing hospital-acquired conditions. Utilizing Keller's ARCS (attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction) model, the project employed interactive games to engage participants, resulting in improved clinical practice and patient outcomes. The pilot showed positive results, supporting the expansion of this innovative educational approach sitewide.

Clinical nurses demonstrate wide variability in ethical competence, resulting in moral distress and turnover. A nursing professional development specialist led a team of experts in bioethics and nursing ethics to develop and pilot a Nursing Code of Ethics-based competency validation program on an inpatient surgical unit. Results demonstrate the value, and challenges, of focused efforts to support nurses' integration of Code-based ethics concepts into everyday nursing practice.

Health care faces a shortage of direct patient care workers with a projected 3.2 million deficit by 2026. This study examined the impact of an in-facility, employer-paid nursing assistant training program to address certified nursing assistant retention in a Midwest rural health care system. Using a mixed-method retrospective cohort design, researchers compared the retention of program participants ( n = 557) and nonparticipants ( n = 3,326). Results showed program participants were retained at a 9% higher rate than those trained outside the organization.

We redesigned our nurse preceptor program to meet workforce demands and enhance preceptor satisfaction by addressing gaps in training, support, recognition, and rewards. Guided by the Advisory Board's The Preceptor Toolkit and accredited transition program standards, key improvements included the creation of a Preceptor Program Manager role, preceptor training curriculum updates, expanded continuing education, and increased preceptor incentives. These evidence-based strategies aligned the program with best practices, strengthened preceptor engagement, and fostered retention.

The percentage of nurses who hold a specialty certification remains low and there remains a need for frontline nurses to actively participate in quality improvement and research projects. In a busy healthcare environment, supporting the professional growth of nurses requires creative methods. This manuscript describes the successful implementation of an ambulatory care nursing certification review course and an ambulatory care nursing care symposium as support tools to promote the professional development of nurses.
