The results of an ecological-cenotic analysis of the flora of the northwestern part of the Altai-Sayan Province are presented. Approximately 30 cenotic elements, united in 10 prime ecological-cenotic groups, were identified The distribution of ecological-cenotic groups and cenotic elements within 13 botanical-geographical districts of the investigated region was analyzed. Taking into account the distribution of ecological-cenotic groups by districts, a conclusion on the predominantly forest character of the fl ora was made.

The article is dedicated to the memory of A.P. Khokhrjakov, a famous Soviet and Russian botanist, who was tirelessly passionate about collecting scientific herbarium throughout his life. The contribution of A.P. Khokhryakov to the study of biodiversity is shown by the example of the genus Salix L. (Salicaceae) specimens in the Digital Herbarium of the Central Siberian Botanical Garden SB RAS. Collectors of S. magadanensis Nedol. type specimens are clarified.

The genus Hegemone Bunge ex Ledeb., comprising three species (T. lilacinus Bunge, T. komarovii Pachom. & T chartosepalus Schipcz.) is proved to be inseparable from the genus Trollius L. on morphological and phylogenetic grounds. A review of a very long discussion in scientific literature on the matter is provided together with the results of molecular-genetic analysis of the relevant taxa; affinities of the latter are discussed.

Several paradoxical variants of ontogenesis of the modular organisms are analyzed. Their study will be of paramount importance in the long term, taking into account the creation of a general concept of ontogenesis. The general concept in its turn will contribute to the development of various branches of modern biology and ecology. That concept is utmost important in strengthening theoretical foundations of the population biology.

An inventory of “railway” flora within 6 sectors of Trans-Siberian railway with a total length of 5400 km (58% of Transsib) was carried out. It was noted that both, native and alien fractions of the flora, are similar by high proportion of monospecific families and the Asteraceae lead. The alien fraction differs from the native one by a lower total number of families in the taxonomic spectrum, a lower rank of the Poaceae and a higher rank of the Brassicaceae. The leading families triads (the term developed by A.P. Khokhryakov for aboriginal flora of the former USSR) are not applicable for the characterization of the “railway” fl ora. The taxonomic spectrum of “railway” flora depends to a greater extent on (artificially created) edaphic factors than on climatic conditions of the territory which the railroad passes through.

The study aiming to clarify the taxonomic status of Primula mazurenkoae (Aleuritia section, Primulaceae) and determining the level of its genetic divergence in relation to the morphologically close P. farinosa was carried out. To study the genetic relationships between the closely related species, ISSR analysis was performed using five primers; 23 nucleotide sequences of nrITS region were obtained; 20 of them were revealed in the present study. Genetic analyses revealed a high level of variability in natural populations of P. mazurenkoae. Here we can conclude that the level of morphological similarity between P. mazurenkoae and P. farinosa correlates with the results of ISSR analysis and ITS nucleotide data obtained in the study.

Problems of identification and evaluation of mountain ecosystems, solved on the basis of different approaches, require the use of a multilevel approach to analyze diversity and spatial structure of ecosystems. In this paper some methods of analysis are suggested according to altitudinal structure of vegetation in Southern Siberian mountains and Prebaikalia at regional and topological levels. For each level climatic and orographic parameters are suggested to identify the key patterns of vegetation cover.

The river network of the vast territory of the Lower Volga basin in the semidesert area of the Russian Plain belongs to the least studied tributaries of the River. Among the rivers of the left bank in this natural and climatic zone, the Yeruslan River is the most important one, which largely determines the ecological characteristics of the area. The article presents the data of long-term (2015–2017) studies of macrozoobenthos of the Yeruslan River (a tributary of the Volgograd Reservoir) are presented. For the first time the detailed composition of fauna including 148 species and taxa of higher systematic rank is given. The basis of the taxonomic composition of the river is formed by a complex of eurybiont species. The limnophilic taxa Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, Polypedilum nubeculosum, Cladotanytarsus mancus and Paratanytarsus sp. have the highest frequency. These taxa are widely distributed in plain rivers of the Upper, Middle and Lower Volga basin. The vast majority of species recorded in the Yeruslan River are typically freshwater forms. In the observed water salinity gradient (0,235–1,42 g/l), the highest species richness of macrozoobenthos was observed in the range of 0,5–0,8 g/l. Under highly saline conditions (>1,2 g/l) there are mayflies Caenis robusta and Cloeon gr. dipterum, caddisflies Oecetis furva, dragonflies Ischnura elegans, mollusks Viviparus viviparus, ceratopogonids Sphaeromias pictus, oligochaetes Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, Stylaria lacustris, Tubifex tubifex, chironomids Cladotanytarsus mancus, Cryptochironomus gr. defectus, Dicrotendipes nervosus, Glyptotendipes barbipes, Glyptotendipes glaucus, Polypedilum nubeculosum, Parachironomus varus, Paratanytarsus sp, Psectrocladius sordidellus, Tanytarsus pallidicornis, Tanytarsus sp. etc. These species should be classified as euryhaline taxa. The flat character of the Yeruslan River, characterized by low gradients of the river bed and low flow velocity, determines the development of limnophilic, lake-pond fauna of macrozoobenthos. Along with typical freshwater taxa, euryhaline groups of hydrobionts inhabiting areas where saline soils are drained by river waters are widespread. The contribution of rheophilic species to macrozoobenthos composition is negligible, which distinguishes bottom communities of the Yeruslan River from plain rivers of forest and forest-steppe natural-climatic zones of the Volga River basin.

In 2022, studies of the species diversity of plant communities, their aboveground mass and the resource-feeding potential of various types of steppes and meadows in the “Tsimlyansky” nature reserve were conducted. The method of vegetation cover mowing (n = 29) in seven types of steppes and meadows determined the aboveground mass of 101 species of herbaceous plants within the ancient Chir landscape of the Don-Tsimlyansk sand massif. The species richness of plant communities varies between (5.7±1.7) – (14.0±1.2) species/0.25 m2 and averages 10.1±1.0 species/0.25 m2. The average share of cereal species in the communities is 23%, and grasses are almost 3 times more – 64%. The total aboveground biomass in 7 types of steppes and meadows varies between (197.4±25.6) – (379.1±92.5) g/m2. The accumulated mort (necro) mass is (152.2±12.5) – (411.9±43.9) g/m2.
