Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the oldest cultivated oilseeds due to its high oil potential. In Paraguay, its cultivation has become more important in recent years, due to its efficient adaptation to medium to low fertility soils. It has become one of the main economic activities of rural family farming. One of sesame limitations is water deficiency that can damage by 20 to 30% the emergence of the crop. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate the incidence of the application of complementary irrigation on the grain yield of the sesame crop. The experiments were carried out in two agricultural periods, (2016 2017 and 2017 2018) using four and six varieties, Escoba, SH 1, Dorado, PF 6 and Escoba, SH 1, INIA, IP 10, K2, K7, respectively. The experimental design used was complete random blocks with four repetitions and four varieties for the first period and six varieties with three repetitions for the second period. For each experiment, a plot with spray irrigation was used three times, at intervals of 10 days, 80 minutes each time and for a period of 45 days and another plot without irrigation. The results obtained show that there was a highly significant effect with the application of irrigation for both agricultural periods, mainly for varieties SH 1 and Escoba with a grain yield of 1,140 and 1,091 kg ha-1, respectively, representing an increase of 54% and 58%, regarding the plot control without irrigation. Therefore, the effects of the incidence of the application of complementary irrigation in agricultural soils should be considered to estimate the potential impact on grain yield in the different sesame varieties.

Vocalization and behavior are non-invasive methods of animal welfare analysis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the welfare of piglets during Australian ear notching, tooth wear and castration, from vocalizations and behavioral aspects of pigs. For this, 281 piglets were used, with measurements of the maximum and minimum intensity of the noise emitted by the piglets and the time of accomplishment. The behavior of the piglets was obtained according to the activity performed during handling and containment. For behavioral analysis a specific etogram was used. The comparison of means was performed by T-test and PDIFF. The castration was the practice with the highest average of time of accomplishment, followed by the wear of teeth and ear notching. The highest mean values of minimum and maximum intensity were found for male castration in the slow process. It was observed that sex did not influence the time when the ear notching and tooth wear were performed, but at the same time the avoidance behavior was the most observed (P <0.05), with low frequency in castration. Therefore, it can be concluded that the procedures caused pain, characterized by vocal demonstrations and negative behavior.

The search for healthier agri-food products of sustainable origin and of a specific geographical region is on the raise and represents an interesting market. In this sense, the objective of this research was to identify consumers' perceptions of bovine meat with geographical indication (GI) and the willingness to pay for this attribute. An electronic survey was carried out through a questionnaire developed in the virtual platform of Google Drive through Internet, with 465 consumers during 60 days, from different regions of Paraguay. Meat with GI is still unknown to consumers. While only a minority of consumers are willing to pay more for meat with GI, an interesting market niche that should be explored. However, this attribute can be a tool capable of generating added value, offering bovine meat of differentiated quality and unique in the region.

Tubixaba tuxaua is a phytonematode that causes damage to crops and was recentlyidentified in soil samples from Paraguay. Due to the scarcity of local information on thedamage caused to soybean cultivation, a study was carried out with the objective ofevaluating the effects on development and yield caused by different densities of Tubixabatuxaua in the soybean crop. The experiment was carried out in field conditions, in the2016/2017 cycle, in Tempiaporenda, Caazapa, Paraguay, in a plot with 10 years ofsoybean production. According to the symptoms observed 48 days after sowing, 3 areasof infestation were delimited and distributed in a completely randomized experimentaldesign with 12, 6 and 7 repetitions, for the areas of high, medium and free infestationof Tubixaba tuxaua respectively. The variables analyzed were; population of thenematode, foliar area, dry mass, height of plant, number of pods, weight of 100 grainsand yield. The results showed statistical differences between the treatments for all thevariables except weight of 100 grains. It was observed that in areas with a greaterpopulation of nematodes, there was a decrease in plant height, number of pods, foliararea, dry mass and yield with a decreasing tendency.

The stability of the ecosystems is directly related to a high value of biodiversity and, in this sense, the anthropic effects have generated negative conditions on the natural pastures. The aim of this work was to evaluate the recovery of the natural grassland of a degraded native forest of the Argentine Spinal with shrubs by means of an aerial chemical control in a cattle system with rotary grazing of low instantaneous load. The study was carried out in the Protected Natural Area Reserve of Multiple Uses Estancia "El Caraya" located in the north central of Entre Rios, Argentina.16 evaluations were carried out (between 2012 and 2015) on the chemically treated sector with Picloram+2,4-D and on three sectors without treatment. In each evaluation, the vegetation cover, the floristic composition of the most representative forage species, and the plant biomass, were quantified. The results of this work show that the use of an aerial chemical control technique increases significantly, by 44%, the coverage and biomass of the forage species in the treated areas with respect to the control. Chemical control over shrubs persisted over time with considerable effectiveness during the years of evaluation. Likewise, the floristic composition of the herbaceous species did not present significant differences between treatments.
