This book was translated into Spanish and French in 2015, which is indicative of its relevance. A thorough review of the bibliography was conducted during the edition of the Spanish version, which also features a new set of examples of the political manipulation of the medieval legacy and its interpretation. The titles of both the Spanish and the French version do not convey the exact meaning of the original Italian title—medioevo militante—and it has been changed to el presente medieval and médiéval et militant respectively. The book retains its interest, but there is, however, no justification for that change. The key to its success lies in the masterly exposition of how the postmedieval reconstruction of the Middle Ages, understood both chronologically and philosophically—namely the denial of modernity and the affirmation of the futility of the notion of progress—is rooted in a process of nineteenth-century, bourgeois, and Romantic origins. This reconstruction is capitalized on in order to build legitimizing political discourses, whose influence and convening power are felt from the radical Left to neo-Nazism—just to mention the two most stridently radical cases—and are applied not only to the process of European unification but also to the war against terrorism.

Aquest text mostra l’estat actual dels coneixements en relacio a la fortalesa de Miravet (Cabanes, Castello) i el seu territori amb la voluntat de proposar un seguit de linies de treball en relacio al jaciment. Es compilen, doncs, els estudis de territori amb l’analisi de les fonts documentals relacionades i l’estudi arqueologic del propi jaciment, tant pel que fa a les estructures com als artefactes. Tot aixo amb la nalitat de posar en relacio les diferents investigacions dutes a terme les darreres decades i, sobretot, d’establir una base sobre la qual projectar noves actuacions i linies de recerca en via a una desitjable futura excavacio arqueologica que permeti un estudi complet i sistematic de la fortalesa.

El articulo describe en detalle la arqueta andalusi que se conserva en la Catedral de Girona y documenta su presencia en lo alto del retablo del altar mayor ya en 1511. Trata de cada uno de los diversos componentes de esta pieza unica de plateria califal, muestra de lo que se consideraba un objeto de lujo en el ano 975. Comenta su forma y medidas, el alma de madera, las chapas de plata que la recubren y los herrajes complementarios. Describe los motivos usados en su decoracion y las tecnicas empleadas (repujado, dorado y nielado). Se exponen aqui por primera vez el solero de plata cincelada, la decoracion oculta por el cierre y el interior de la caja, hoy vacia, forrado de seda roja.
