This article is about twelve middle-class students, previously studying in elite primary and secondary schools, making another attempt at getting into university in Hong Kong. Despite their failure at a critical educational stage, which contradicts a general pattern of middle-class educational success, they decide to seek a second chance by reading an associate degree in community college, a perceived inferior educational option. Despite feeling determined, they are anxious and uneasy with taking up this option. How the middle class feel about their academic pursuits, especially after a critical failure, is under-researched. This article attempts to fill this gap by referring to Bourdieu’s notions of habitus and field to make sense of the complex or contradictory feelings of 12 students with a self-conscious, high-status, middle-class habitus in encountering a perceived low-status community college. I shall conclude this article with the normative implication of our discussion in making sense of educational inequality.

Psihoterapijski pravci u izvjesnom trenutku izlaze iz granica sto mogu legitimno tvrditi kao znanstvene teorije i skupovi praksi u podrucje filozofije. Autor predlaže tri filozofske teze o filozofskim temeljima i filozofskim aspiracijama psihoterapijskih pravaca. Argumenti su povijesni (ukljucujuci socijalne mreže u povijesti filozofije i psihologije), epistemoloski i sistemski. U ovom radu analiziramo tri podrucja tih pokusaja: socioloski psihologizam, tj. opis i objasnjavanje drustvenog stanja pozivanjem na određeni psihoterapijski pravac ; razumijevanje psihologije kao svjetonazorne pozicije, te iskoristavanja teorije psiholoskog zdravlja kao modela izgradnje ucinkovitijeg drustva, tj. utopije. Posebna pozornost u radu posvecena je djelu Walden Dva, bihevioristickoj utopiji B. F. Skinnera.

The words ‘utopia’ and ‘zombie’ are likely to conjure up strong images in the mind of the reader. The first makes one think of perfection, of happiness, of something new and better; the other, of the monstrous, of death and decay. Despite the fact that these images are arguably the most common, one can question their validity: can it be said that utopias are always perfect, and are the undead always monstrous? In this paper, I aim to explore the concepts relating to both utopias and zombies and the possible connections between the two, including a reading of the undead in light of the ultimate utopia: Paradise. In the light of these analyses, I propose a more positive approach to the figure of the zombie, which will be discussed as a counterpoint to the commonly held views of (religious) utopias.

The effects of heat-treatment conditions on crystallographic orientation and phase transformations were studied on lead zirconate titanate Pb(Zr0.50Ti0.50)O3 (PZT) thin films. Films deposited on platinum with a chemical solution can exhibit 111 or 100 texture, however, there is no consensus about the mechanisms responsible for texture during heat treatment processes. The heat treatment affects directly the densification of the film as well as the residual stress developed. In addition, the formation of impurities as a pyrochlore phase (Pb2(Zr1-xTix)2O6) was noticed by several authors. In this work, the evolution of phases and trends of texture were characterized for different temperatures of pyrolysis in PZT thin films using X-ray diffraction. The perovskite phase coexists with the pyLicearochlore phase to the film pyrolyzed from 350 °C to 450 °C. However, the films produced at low temperature pyrolysis showed only the presence of the perovskite phase. The Rietveld method was used to quantify the percentage of each phase as a function of temperature of pyrolysis. The microstrain and the residual stress was evaluated to explain the mechanisms responsible for texture and phase transformations in PZT films.
