ABSTRACT The onset of COVID required many libraries to re-imagine how they conducted their services. It also identified needs and gaps in the delivery of these services to the community. In response to changes such as extended lockdowns and the resultant economic difficulties and the wider need for digital literacy skills, Hong Kong SKH Ming Hua Theological College Library (MH College) established an international collaboration to develop and deliver online tours/ talks as a library skills program with librarians, faculty, students, and professionals in Hong Kong, Japan and Australia. The overall aims of this initiative were to provide an online library skills program for education, leisure and to make the value of librarians and libraries visible to stakeholders during the pandemic to ensure the upkeep of library resources, budgeting and staffing. Through partnerships with key stakeholders and the use of a variety of innovative IT tools, real-time online activities were conducted in three languages (English, Chinese and Japanese) to an internationally distributed audience. This paper will outline the background and organisation of the program, its design and discuss the lessons learned and implications for practice of the strategies used in the program.

ABSTRACT Makerspaces are still emerging service offerings and establishments within libraries and on university campuses. They provide equipment and expertise for hands-on projects and skill-building, especially around digital fabrication. This paper presents findings from a qualitative case study of a makerspace in a regional university Library at the University of Southern Queensland. It explores users’ experiences of participation and value across three usage types in the Makerspace: course curriculum, extracurricular, and research. To understand users’ experiences within the space a visual research method was adopted alongside semi-structured interviews. This facilitated a participant-driven dialogue and adding depth to the data collected. A reflexive thematic analysis of interview transcripts was undertaken from which five themes were developed. These were: a tentative start, practical need, skills development, community connection, and influencing outlook. The resulting themes presented a narrative of users’ participation that started with tentative curiosity and hesitancy around using the Makerspace, but ultimately saw participants finding value in new perspectives and skills.

Library patrons have become more interested in sustainability and self-reliance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The programs in this book are written by librarians and sustainability experts who have run these programs themselves. I would recommend this book to library staff who organise events, are interested in sustainable living programs, and who would like to help their communities to learn more sustainable and self-reliance skills. This book examines the use of cloud-based technology to manage library collections. It is aimed at collection development librarians and explores several popular cloud-based technologies such as Google Forms, Google Sheets and Tableau to see how they can be integrated into the library workplace. A range of factors are considered, including versatility, functionality, pricing, and data security, focusing on technologies libraries can a ff ord to implement, or alternatively, utilising existing corporate subscriptions. The authors are practising collection management librarians. Kayla Kipps is the collection development librarian at College of Charleston Libraries, managing physical and electronic content. Allison Kaiser Jones is the electronic resources and serials librarian at the same institution. The book begins with an overview of collection managements activitiesand cloud-based technology, and an examination of the technology ’ s broader role within the library. The advantages and disadvantages of using cloud-based technology are discussed. Subsequent chapters focus on topics integral to collection management and the appropriate cloud-based tools for those activi-ties using Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). There are examples to demonstrate how various cloud-based tools are implemented in libraries. Topics covered in chapters include data storage, data management, data visualisation, project management, communications, and library management systems, using the examples of Ex Libris Alma, Koha, and FOLIO. The authors close with thoughts on how cloud-based technologies will shape libraries into the future. The book also contains a glossary of terms, a com-prehensive list of references for future study, and a detailed index.

ABSTRACT This article discusses the outcomes of the research project National Survey on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment in Australian Libraries, conducted from 2020 to 2021. The research provided a snapshot of the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people employed in Australian libraries and identifies the current employment types across various library settings. It describes trends in current employment roles, and identifies gaps to understand more about the experiences of Indigenous people working in libraries across Australia.
