Goal: This article aims to diagnose the profile, strategies, and innovation practices adopted by the information technology companies of a Regional Innovation Systems (RIS). Design/ Methodology/ Approach: This study was carried out with 19 small and medium companies from a RIS in the state of Paraná, where we collect data relating to the infrastructure and investments in R&D, types of innovation projects, impact on revenue, activities of innovation, innovation protection methods, and information sources used by companies. Results: The results showed that: companies with higher investments in R&D, which generate innovative products and patents, have a higher financial return; the generation of patents is incipient among the companies surveyed; product process and organizational innovation are the main innovation activities carried out; there is some difficulty in establishing external partnerships for the development of innovation, especially with universities; customers, users, and the internet are the primary sources of information used by companies. Limitation of the investigation: With respect to research limitations, we point out that our research sample is limited to 19 companies. Thus, for the results to be generalized, a larger sample is recommended. Practical implications: The article showed that the launch of innovative products on the market has positive effects on the financial performance of companies due to increased sales. Originality / Value: This paper offers a contribution to contextual studies of innovation in RIS. In addition, it presents an innovation profile of the technology companies of an RIS. These results can be used to compare and evaluate the innovation evolution in technology companies with other sectors and other RIS, or provide an indicator for the development of innovation policies for a region.

Goal: The main purpose of this work is to develop several production planning models for one of bottle grade PET production plants (in Turkey) under different scenarios by considering different levels of inventory (no stock and different levels of safety stocks), different energy sourcing alternatives (natural gas/coal or both) and production throughput (different lot sizes). Design/Methodology/Approach: Deterministic multi-product multi-period single level mixed integer linear programming model is presented. The model is implemented for the above defined scenarios. We have also considered the total emission produced for different energy alternatives. Results: The models for the different scenarios have shown that significant performance improvements can be achieved by changing the parameters/policies of the production. The best model obtained has yielded 6.6% of profit improvement and 6.9% of cost reduction. Limitations of the investigation: Planning horizon of this work could cover the data of years 2014 to 2018. However, the actual data employed for this study is limited with one year due to unavailability of further data. In addition to this, improvement of current production planning approach of the plant by implementation of proposed model is one of the objectives of this study to see success rate of model. Though, this couldn’t be realized. We hypothetically tested the improvement provided by the proposed model, therefore we can’t analyze the actual improvement. Practical implications: Interactions among optimal results obtained by running model with different scenarios and their effect on selected performance variables are the main contribution of this work. Similar methodology could be used at other PET resin manufacturing plants or alternatively the production facilities having similar type of continuous manufacturing processes to find their optimal levels of inventory, production throughput and proper choice for energy sourcing alternative. Originality/Value: The research on the production planning for PET resin industry by considering the different scenarios (levels of inventory / energy sourcing alternatives/ production throughput) is novel as far as we know, and therefore the approach used in this study is expected to be useful for other similar plants.

Goal: This paper aims to carry a bibliometric study to map how data mining and operations research techniques are being applied to Supply Chain Risk Management. Design/Methodology/Approach: We conducted a bibliometric analysis implemented in R language (bibliometrix package) using Systematic Literature Review approach to conduct the search. Results: As the main results we highlight the gap we found in the literature considering Data Mining techniques in Supply Chain Risk Management and we set a full panorama of this stream of research. Limitations of the Investigation: We used Scopus database which allows recovering peer-reviewed texts from dozens of strong databases, nevertheless, we can not guarantee that all relevant documents were recovered. In addition, we considered only full published papers published in English language. Practical Implications: Managers and companies that are related in a supply chain must gradually redesign processes to include Data Mining techniques to support SCRM processes and activities along the SC. Originality / Value: The paper showed the updated panorama of Data Mining implementation regarding SCRM. We did not find any similar studies, which shows our unique contribution.

Goal: This article describes a simulation exercise based on the premises of the experiential learning approach, using Lego® blocks to build a production plant model. Design / Methodology / Approach: The simulation was applied to groups of 4 to 6 participants, enrolled in production management or similar classes. Results: The use of this approach promoted a learning environment with greater interaction and stimulated the students to put their reasoning, decision-making and communication skills into practice. Limitations of the investigation: Because the simulation is only a representation of reality, it can generate some generalization, and since it is a controlled experiment, all the variables are known in advance. Therefore, the practices using the simulation should be discussed and contrasted with realworld practices after application of the method. Practical implications: This simulation enables examining themes such as inventories, supply chains, production planning and scheduling, layout, MRP, and mainly integration of organizational processes in practice, promoting hands-on experience. Originality / Value: The reports of the participants indicated a positive impact of the proposed simulation, by stimulating the development of skills and capabilities for their training as future managers.

Design / Methodology / Approach: To form the set of attributes, five MSS were selected that certify companies in the Brazilian sugarcane supply chain, and a sample of 66 large and medium-sized companies in operation was obtained. Results: The results show that the Brazilian sugarcane companies supply chain presented a higher preference for suppliers with ISO 9001 (38.7%), ISO 22000 (19.9%), ISO 14001 (19.6%), OHSAS 18001 (13.2%) and ISO 27001 (8.6%) certification and contribute to the literature by offering new and broader insight into industrial buying behavior in the business-to-business context with respect to the adoption of MSS. Limitations of the investigation: The low number of observations may be a factor limiting the investigation. And the study is limited to sugar-alcohol companies in Brazil. Practical implications: Companies within the supply chain still prefer the traditional certifications, even when the market is saturated with such certifications. These results help better explain industrial behavior and illuminate the relationships that companies develop within the supply chain, that might thus be of great assistance to suppliers wishing to become part of this supply chain by identifying which MSS certifications are most valued by purchasing companies. Originality / Value: The article analyzes which MSS are most important for the Brazilian companies of sugar cane and ethanol. And can be of great value to managers, suppliers, and stakeholders in this industry, as well as
