Goal: Analyze the benefits of the application of recycled polypropylene in the evaporation tray of refrigerators in a multinational company of electro-electronic equipment. Design / Methodology / Approach: This research conducts a systematic literature review; performs a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of the polypropylene production, interpreting its results through a Pareto Diagram; and presents a case study in a multinational company of white line electro-electronic equipment. Results: The LCA results point out that propylene and the components released by the chemical plant cause the main negative externalities under the environment and human health, so that during PP production, propylene is responsible for 72% of the impacts under global warming and 86% in the face of scarcity of fossil resources. Thus, the case study proposes recycling polypropylene, following the Circular Economy guidelines by aligning the proposal with the Zero Waste policy, with modular design, with Reverse Logistics, and with Sustainable Development Goals. Research limitations: The work presents limitations inherent to literature review works, where filters are used to limit the search (limited to articles, published between 2012 and 2021 and written in English). Practical implications: The research encourages recycling, pointing out its contribution under the environmental, social and economic spheres. Originality / Value: The research presents originality and methodological value by combining qualitative and quantitative methods, and a theoretical and practical approach. Thus, it was possible to implement the research in the multinational company analyzed, and to measure the benefits obtained.

Goal: This research represents a case study on the selection and implementation of ERP systems in the beekeeping and honey production sector, developing a decentralized and digital system accessible to every stakeholder in a cooperative based in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Methodology: The work develops an in-depth analysis of the beekeeping activities and how farmers participate and interact with the cooperative. This enables to distinguish the main features and specifications that an ERP system must have to give proper support to the business functions within the cooperative. Results: This implementation made it possible to make the production process more flexible, improve the traceability of production batches, and reduce costs in the business operation. Limitations: To generalize the results, other experiences from similar organizations should be incorporated. In addition, it would be convenient to reassess the situation when the implementation is fully developed, since this article presents the implementation of essential and critic modules for the operation of the organization. Practical implications: A special feature of this study is that the organization is structured as a cooperative, then each producer is a stakeholder in the system meaning that the decision-making processes are decentralized and transparent to each stakeholder. Originality: This study represents a novel development in using cloud and digital technologies to leverage and foster horizontal organizations such as cooperatives. Digitalization enables to share the information and decisions made by each of the stakeholders, something that strengthens the main purpose of cooperatives. As far as we know, there are no previous studies on developing ERP systems for an agricultural cooperative.

Goal: The main objective of this work is identifying product-service system logistics strategies present in e-commerce. In addition, this research aims to address two main research questions: (i) What are the product-service logistics strategies in e-commerce and how are the strategies applied? and (ii) What are the future research opportunities from the literature? Design / Methodology / Approach: This paper performs a systematic literature review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method. Using this method, we established criteria for inclusion and exclusion of papers as well as better filters that, after applied during the literature review, we reached the final papers that will be included in the analysis. Results: The main opportunity for applying PSS in e-commerce is related to the migration of logistics services to platforms, in which asset sharing between partners is a potential implementation being tested by start-ups and technological companies. Concerning the results related to the association of PSS and e-commerce, this is still a lack in the literature since many papers are more theoretical and fail to assess the benefits of practical adoption. Limitations of the investigation: Research limitations of this research are according to the structure of the systematic literature review methodology. Practical implications: The results may provide guidance for e-commerce retailers that choose to implement PSS strategies associated with logistics in their sales channels. Originality / Value: This paper originality deals with the study of PSS strategies in e-commerce, since the combination of these approaches is still a research gap. Findings point out that e-commerce is still focused on physical products and the adoption of PSS strategies is not a common topic addressed in this context.

Highlights: Analytical Network Process (ANP) is, for the first time, applied to select the best neighborhood structure of CVRP. ANP considers tangible and intangible criteria and relationships between criteria. Computational results indicate the importance of applying ANP. ANP examines the behaviors of the test problems by considering different criteria. Goal: This scientific research article focuses on developing a performance measurement framework for selecting the neighborhood structure of the capacitated vehicle routing problem using the ANP. The study aims to analyze the studied VRP as a multi criteria decision making process to determine the most efficient neighborhood structure. Design / Methodology / Approach: The first step was using the different neighborhood operators of the vehicle routing problem which were 2-opt, swap, and insert to analyze the problem as a multi criteria decision making process to determine the most efficient neighborhood structure for the problem under study. Secondly, ANP model was developed for the regarding problem to compare these structures to find the best one for the problem. Results: The results demonstrate that 2-opt is the best alternative for the studied CVRP. The studied approach can be used for any other type of the vehicle routing problems. Limitation of the investigation: Thirty-three test problems were determined for three different neighborhood structures. All calculation results were given in detail for comparison on different test problems taken from the literature. Practical implications: The significant contribution of this study is to help logistics companies select the most appropriate neighborhood structure to be used in solving the problem to get quality results in a very short time Originality / Value: To the best of our knowledge, in the literature, there has not been any research comparing the effects of neighborhood structures on the vehicle routing problem by analyzing ANP methodology.

Goal: This study aims to use artificial intelligence, specifically a random forest model, to predict the annual corrosion rate on FPSO offshore platforms in the oil and gas industry. Corrosion is a significant cause of equipment failure, leading to costly replacements. The random forest model, a machine learning technique, was developed using climatic and other relevant data to forecast corrosion trends based on selected variables. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology involved four steps: identifying influential factors affecting corrosion, selecting factors based on reliability and accessibility of measurements, applying the machine learning model to predict annual corrosion progression, and comparing the random forest model with other ML models. Results - The results showed that the random forest regression model successfully predicted corrosion rates, indicating an average yearly increase of 2.43% on the analyzed platforms. The main factors influencing this increase were wind speed, percentage of measured corrosion, and platform operating time. Regions with higher incidence of these factors are likely to experience higher corrosion rates, necessitating more frequent maintenance. Limitations of the investigation - The research sample consisted exclusively of 4 platforms located in the offshore region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Thus, the results obtained must be interpreted as representative of these platforms and respective climate conditions. Practical implications – The use of data science tools to improve corrosion management allows managers to have knowledge of which areas has a greater or lesser tendency to corrode, helping to prioritize maintenance activities over time. Originality/value - This study aims to fill gaps regarding the use of random forest techniques for regression focused on predicting the rate of increase in corrosion. It offers a novel approach to assist decision-making in maintenance planning, providing insights into influential corrosion factors and facilitating more effective painting plans to preserve industrial unit integrity.

Purpose - Industry 4.0 links smart production processes with embedded system production technologies to open the door to a new technological era that fundamentally alters industry value chains and business structures. This study examines the effects of Industry 4.0 on firm efficiency. Methods - Based on a cross-country sample of 1440 firms operating in the top twelve Giants of Asia-Pacific countries and a control sample with another set of 1440 similar-sized firms from non-adopting firms. Findings - The empirical evidence shows that Industry 4.0 positively impacts firm efficiency. Next, the Tobit model is used for the robustness of the main findings. Further, study also examine the mediating role of intangible assets (human capital and firm reputation) for the impact of Industry 4.0 on firm efficiency. Study findings support the hypotheses that intangible assets mediate the Industry 4.0-firm efficiency relationship. Implications - Study findings have managerial implications for production and operation managers on enhancing firm efficiency. Drawing upon practice-based-view theory, this study is the first to explore the mediating role of intangible assets (human capital and firm reputation) between in-Industry 4.0 and firm performance. Originality - This study shed light on the significance of intangible asset congruence in enhancing Industry 4.0 impact.

Goal: Present a holistic perspective of methods and tools for the development of Product Service Systems (PSS). Design / Methodology / Approach: The investigation was conducted in two phases. The first phase presents bibliographic and bibliometric analyses, where 132 papers were read in full. In the second stage, of conceptual development, bibliographic data was grouped and validated by PSS specialists through a questionnaire, whose responses were used to conceptualize a model for PSS development. Results: Elaboration of a concept of a model for the development of Product-Service Systems, capable of providing guidance for all stages of its life cycle. Limitations of the investigation: The proposed model was applied to the bike sharing business model. However, a limitation was the lack of some information regarding this case to apply some methods and tools proposed in the conceptual model. Practical implications: The model developed can be used as a guideline for the elaboration or improvement of a PSS proposal, since it provides structure and control to the business models. Originality / Value: The paper demonstrates its originality and relevance by presenting a model centered on a holistic approach, as it provides a perspective of the whole PSS life cycle. Thus, processes are planned and analyzed from the definition of requirements to the destination after use of the PSS.

Thus, processes are planned and analyzed from the definition of requirements to the destination after use of the PSS.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"7 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72481650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
Goal: The present research aimed to demonstrate the use of a decision-making method based on game theory to support the resolution of a usual NPO’s management problem, which is the one of fundraising with different stakeholders’ preferences. Design / Methodology / Approach: The application of the method occurred within a NPO in the city of Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, and included: (i) a phase for structuring the problem in the form of a decision matrix; and (ii) a group decision phase for supporting the NPO’s director board in their group decision-making process. Results: The method predicted reasonably well the group decision, whose effects were demonstrated with a greater sense of justice. Two years after the decision made, the authors verified through a new visit to the NPO that the mix of the choice of the group and the method was indeed implemented. Limitations of the investigation: It should be noted that, given the sample size, the results achieved in this study should be corroborated by other studies that eventually replicate the procedures proposed here for verification of the main hypothesis Practical implications: However, it has been concluded that the use of a formal approach can contribute to the solution of the fundraising problem in NPOs environment, increasing the chances for decision’s implementation. Originality / Value: It is expected that the framework proposed can be used for other problems of group decision making in NPOs by the replication of the procedures presented in the paper.
