: Stroke is a leading cause of disability amongst adults worldwide. While mortality rates decreased in the last decades, the morbidity associated with the occurrence of stroke is a major cause of disability, missed days of work, decreased quality of life and of increased healthcare costs. Stroke survivors frequently suffer from speech impairments, motor deficits, spasticity, cognitive impairment or bowel and bladder dysfunction. Rehabilitation interventions can aid in alleviating the impact these complications have on the activities of daily living, improving cognition, gait and balance, decreasing spasticity and reducing pain. While classic rehabilitation programs were proved to be highly efficient in achieving these goals, the implication of newly developed technologies such as virtual reality (VR), when available, could improve patient outcomes, providing an easy-to-use, exciting new tool that can be used both in a clinical setting and at home. In this paper, we review how VR has emerged as a highly promising tool in post-stroke comprehensive rehabilitation programs, and we escalate the most recent progress in the field while emphasizing the ethical aspects regarding the use of VR in

Legal Norms Regarding the Assessment of the Ability to Drive Motor Vehicles 关于机动车驾驶能力评估的法律规范
IF 0.4 4区 医学 Q4 Medicine Pub Date : 2022-06-10 DOI: 10.4323/rjlm.2022.208

: The forensic expertise regarding the assessment of the ability to drive a motor vehicle on public roads is a necessity for both the person in question [driver] and for the authorities that request it. This type of examination raises the issue of a legislative void in that the current laws fail to provide for the plethora of situations/diagnoses encountered in practice. This paper aims to draw attention on the major differences between the legislative provisions on amateur drivers in comparison with professional drivers, given the potential for similar social danger between both categories, and also on the difficulty of establishing this quality in psychiatric patients. For this purpose, we have compared the judicial requirements for both categories of drivers to better understand their shortcomings and we have analyzed 70 cases of this type of examination to determine the most common diagnoses we encounter.

SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia associated pneumothorax is a rare, but life-threatening complication. SARS-CoV-2 pandemics put us in an unprecedented situation. Severe respiratory distress syndrome associated with acute respiratory failure has forced physicians to apply personalized emergency diagnosis and treatment to increase the survival rate of these patients. We present our observations in cases of pneumothorax associated with COVID-19 pneumonia, treated in the Thoracic Surgery Department of the "Carol Davila” Central Military Emergency University Hospital in Bucharest. © 2022 Romanian Society of Legal Medicine.
