Structure, biogenesis and nutricional dependence of Paxillus ammoniavirescens sclerotia (Boletales, Paxillaceae) 鹦鹉螺(Paxillus amiavirescens sclerotia)的结构、生物发生及营养依赖

The objective of this work was to study the structure, composition, and biogenesis of Paxillus ammoniavirescens sclerotia, as well as their possible use as inoculum for birch mycorrhizae. By means of histochemical stains, a change of the composition and internal organization of these structures during their maturation was observed. The formation of sclerotia begins with a clustering of hyphae that gives rise to a structure with pseudoparenchyma in the central part; these immature sclerotia develop to form, at maturity, a pseudoparenchymatic outer cortex of 6 or 7 layers of hyphae around an inner medulla. The hyphae of mature sclerotia have a large number of protein bodies in contrast to scarce lipid accumulations. The formation of sclerotia is influenced by the characteristics of the culture medium and the temperature. The greatest number of sclerotia was obtained by reducing the concentration of the diammonium phosphate to 0.94 mM in the MMN medium, and maintaining the cultures at 8 °C for 2 weeks. Finally it was shown that the sclerotia of this species can be used directly as inoculum, both to generate mycelium in the culture media and to initiate mycorrhizae in birch plants in vitro.

The monotypic genus Jodina is endemic to central and southeastern South America, common in forests and scrubland environments. The fruit type in Jodina is controversial since it has been described at different stages of development. The main objective of this work was to analyze the morphology of the fruit of J. rhombifolia during its maturation to attain a consensus about its type. Also characteristics of seed development and anatomy were analyzed in detail. Material was processed according to conventional techniques for LM and SEM studies. The fruit of J. rhombifolia is a pseudodrupe since the ovary is half-inferior; the fleshy layer of the pericarp is constituted by an increase of the nectary disk whereas the stony layer is represented by the mesocarp. Participation of the nectary disk as part of the fruit wall has not been mentioned previously. The seed is “naked” —the integument disintegrates during development— and the resulting structure is a pyrene. The interpretations made by other authors on the fruit of Jodina are also discussed.

In this paper we collect the 103 algae names published by the Spanish phycologist Pedro Gonzalez Guerrero during his life-long study of algae at the Royal Botanic Garden of Madrid. Names are presented with specific information to facilitate the typification of these names in the future, since P. Gonzalez only used small illustrations as type elements when describing new infrageneric taxa. We also review here the status of this collection, which has been restored and databased in the process. The collection currently comprises over 2150 specimens, a fraction of what it was a much larger one.

Festuca subgen. Schedonorus is a group of broad-leaved fescues, which can be divided into two clades: European and Maghrebian. We employed fluorescent in situ hybridization —FISH— with probes specific for 5S and 35S ribosomal DNA and genome size estimation using flow cytometry to shed light on the determination of possible parental genomes of polyploid species of the Maghrebian clade. Our results indicate that octoploid F. arundinacea subsp. atlantigena probably originated from crossing of the tetraploids F. arundinacea subsp. fenas —2n = 4x = 28— and F. mairei —2n = 4x = 28— followed by whole genome duplication. However, a large reconstruction of karyotype and genome downsizing has been revealed. Similarly, hexaploid F. arundinacea subsp. corsica presumably resulted from the interspecific hybridization of the diploid F. pratensis and tetraploid F. arundinacea subsp. fenas . Several scenarios on the origin of decaploid F. arundinacea var. letourneuxiana are discussed. This study contributed to our knowledge on the phylogeny of broad-leaved fescues and provided new information on the karyotypes —chromosome numbers, ploidy levels and numbers and positions of rDNA loci— using FISH and genome size estimations using flow cytometry in selected taxa of this important grass genus.

The study of plant material from three populations in northeastern Spain and southern France revealed the presence of O. umbellatum as a new record for the Iberian flora. Although this species had been cited in the Iberian Peninsula by various authors within the last two centuries, its presence in this territory could not been confirmed in recent years. A complete description is presented for O. umbellatum and an identification key is included to cover all species of Ornithogalum s. str. ( O . subgen. Ornithogalum ) of the Iberian Peninsula, as an amendment for their taxonomic treatment in Flora iberica .

The goal of this study was to increase the knowledge of gasteroid fungi in Atlantic Forest biome, which is considered one of the most important hot-spots of the world. Field expeditions were carried out in the Reserva Biologica Municipal de Santa Rita Mitzi Brandao area, in the southeastern part of Minas Gerais. 39 samples belonging to 11 species of earthstars and puffballs are new record for Minas Gerais, Geastrum javanicum Lev., Bovista cunninghamii Kreisel, and Lycoperdon lambinonii Demoulin are first records for Brazil. Information about the locality, morphological characters, illustrations of the basidiomata, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the basidiospores, as well as its distribution in Brazil, are given for all species.

Llavea Lag. is a genus of Cryptogrammoideae (Pteridaceae), whose only species is distributed from southern United States and Mexico to Guatemala and Costa Rica, although it lives mainly in Mesoamerica, inhabiting preferably calcicolous habitats associated with forests and mountains. The genus is easily recognized by the presence of fertile leaves hemi-dimorphic, with the fertile apical portion with longer and narrower segments than the sterile ones, with strongly revolute margin, and rhizome scales bicolorous, shiny, and black. This paper presents a revision of the genus, nomenclatural issues are resolved, and and palynological morphological diversity are reviewed, as well as its distribution, phenology, ecology, and applications, based on field and herbarium specimens studies. In addition, two names related to Llavea, Allosorus karwinskii Kunze and Ceratodactylis osmundioides J. Sm., were lectotypified.

The genus is easily recognized by the presence of fertile leaves hemi-dimorphic, with the fertile apical portion with longer and narrower segments than the sterile ones, with strongly revolute margin, and rhizome scales bicolorous, shiny, and black. This paper presents a revision of the genus, nomenclatural issues are resolved, and and palynological morphological diversity are reviewed, as well as its distribution, phenology, ecology, and applications, based on field and herbarium specimens studies. In addition, two names related to Llavea, Allosorus karwinskii Kunze and Ceratodactylis osmundioides J. On the taxonomic position of Tanacetum funkii (Anthemideae, Compositae) 富氏Tanacetum funkii的分类地位(菊花科,菊科)

In order to clarify the taxonomic position of the enigmatic SE Spanish endemic Tanacetum funkii Sch. Bip. ex Willk., a phylogenetic analysis based on nrDNA ITS sequence variation of representatives of Anthemideae (Compositae) was carried out together with morphological analyses of the type material. The observation of nearly identical (1 bp difference) sequences of ITS1 and ITS2 in T. funkii and Anthemis cotula L., along with the joint possession of a conical receptacle and subulate receptacular scales, argue for the conspecificity of these two taxa. As a consequence, T. funkii is transferred to the genus Anthemis L. and placed in the synonymy of Anthemis cotula, and a lectotype is designated.

The Tremols herbarium, preserved at the Botanical Institute of Barcelona, is one of the oldest herbaria in Catalonia, largely made up of European plants collected in 19 th century. The digitization of this historical collection, currently in progress, has made possible to locate nomenclatural types of various authors, acquired through exchange. In this article, we indicate two syntypes (for Fumaria caespitosa Loscos and Carex loscosii Lange), and one isolectotype ( Polygala vayredae Costa) in Tremols herbarium. Additionally, we designate the lectotype of Polygala vayredae in the Costa herbarium and its isolectotype in the Vayreda herbarium.

Artemisia herba-alba is a largely-distributed and often landscape-dominating taxon in arid areas of the Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian regions. In Algeria, in 2010 its communities covered 10% of the steppe territory, but its populations have been subjected to overgrazing. A karyological study based on 22 populations together with a cytogenetic characterisation of this species has been performed for the first time in Algerian materials, through genome size and chromosome number determination. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) was also used to assess the rDNA loci number and distribution in the two ploidy levels detected. The studied accessions are diploid ( 2n = 2x = 18 chromosomes, 6 populations) or tetraploid ( 2n = 4x = 36 chromosomes, 15 populations). One population, occupying a more or less central geographic position among the studied area, presented both cytotypes. Genome size reflects well the two ploidy levels, with no evidence of downsizing with polyploidy. The karyotypes are rather symmetric (2A Stebbins’ class). FISH analyses detected four signals (2 loci) in diploid and eight signals (4 loci) in tetraploid cytotypes for both ribosomal DNA genes, which present an L-type (linked) organisation, i.e. with loci from both rDNA genes colocalised. The presence of two ploidy levels suggest a genomic dynamism and even a possible differentiation underlying the morphological uniformity and despite the dramatic decrease experienced by this plant in Algeria in terms of surface coverage.
