Movies have been everybodys favorite across all ages. Some movies are not suitable for certain ages and the parents assistance is needed during the watching movie process so that they can show the morals conceived in the movie. This study tries to shed lights on the elements contained in a movie entitled Sense and Sensibility, a movie made based on a novel by Jane Austen. This study was carried out in qualitative approach using visual feature analysis technique. The object of this study was the movie with the duration of 140 minutes. The data obtained were then classified based on its elements such as realism, local color, narratives, and symbolism. The result portrayed that the realism given in this movie is the condition of a noble family who had lost all of their wealth and life had been becoming crude. The local color depicts the social status in the mid-eighteenth century. The story was narrated in the linear plot and finally, the symbolism in this movie exposed much about the calming and melancholic nature of Devonshire.

In-depth research on Second Language Acquisition (SLA) has shed light on different factors affecting learners process of learning an additional language (AL). The well-researched factors may include age, inter-linguistic influences, language aptitude, cognition, motivation, and so forth. This case study report compares two adult learners language learning experiences from social and cognitive SLA perspectives. The key findings reveal that both of the learners mostly relied on three significant factors such as motivation, learners identity and inter-linguistic influences to acquire the language. From the findings, the paper then suggests some pedagogical implications to maximize the effectiveness of English classroom practices.

The purpose of this paper is to explore teachers Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) domains in planning digital tools-based activities. It discusses a small part of a major study that investigated Malaysian non-option ESL teachers flipped ESL instructional design of teaching and learning in their own classroom context. Participants were involved in this case study. The miniscule analysis was done for a digital tool called Blendspace (a learning management system LMS) in order to investigate teachers classroom activity plans. The digital tools introduced to the participants were meant to support their ESL flipped learning instructional design. Findings show that new input ameliorated the existing TK domain and made it developmental. This has resulted an improvised TPACK which I coined a term Augmented TPACK an inclusive TPACK domains that consists of developmental TK and non-developmental PK and CK. Participants used Augmented TPACK to plan digital tools-based activity.

The current study aims at exploring the intended meaning and structure of a poem entitled Do You Remember Our Love? written by a poet, Karina Del Campo (2009) in both interpretational and systemic functional perspectives. In the former, the poem was examined interpretatively in order to find out the possible stance of the poet; meanwhile the later was an analytical representation of systemic functional grammar in the framework of construing the three domains of meanings: ideational, interpersonal and textual in order to arrive at the field, the tenor and the mode of the discourse. It turns out that the poem is a reflection of a womans feeling (the poets) toward her ex-boyfriendfinely described in a repeated style of the major clause, supported and elaborated in several minor clauses. The poet tries very hard to ignite her ex-boyfriends love memories with her and to possibly invite him to reunite even though it seems to be a mission impossible. The poem has both social and psychological impacts on the poet herself and the readers in a wider scope.

The use of L1 in L2 classes has long been a controversy. Krashen (1981) proposes that to succeed in L2 learning, L2 should be exposed extensively. Furthemore, he asserts that failure in L2 exposure is caused by available access to use L1. In contrast with Krashens theory, numerous researchers point out that the use of L1 in L2 classess turns out to be beneficial. According to Cook (2001) and Tang (2002), L2 learning and comprehension increase when L1 is used. This research aimed to reveal the role of L1 (Bahasa Indonesia) by both teachers and learners in English classrooms at tertiary level. The data were obtained from questionnaires distributed to 158 students and 23 teachers at a private university in Yogyakarta. Interviews were also conducted to 5 teachers. The findings show that 59% students and 70% teachers stated that L1 should be used in their class. 87% students stated that L1 should be used during explanation of difficult concepts of L2, and this is in line with 96% teachers who admitted that they use L1 when explaining difficult concepts. 40% students and 61% teachers were quite certain that using L1 in an English class helps learners learning process. L1 use is also contributive in lowering learners affective filter as it will make them more secure, comfortable, and eventually confident to use the target language. The overall findings suggest that L1 should be used in L2 classess, since its absence may hinder learners learning process.

Authorial stance is an important aspect in academic texts in academic texts such as research articles (RAs); that is to show the attitude of authors toward the information cited in a reference in order to establish an argument. The objective of this research was to investigate the authorial stances in English RA introductions written by Indonesia authors in the field of sciences (i.e. Biology, Physic and Chemistry). This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Thirty English research article introductions were included in the corpus in this study. The results show that two authorial stances: neutral and positive stances are found in the texts but no critical stance is used in the corpus of this research. Also, four types of authorial stance (i.e., hedges, booster, attitudinal markers, and self- mention) are used in the RA introductions and the devices in each type of authorial stance are nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives and modals. Self-mentions found in this research are subjective pronoun, common noun and possessive adjectives. It can be concluded that Indonesian authors in the field of sciences already use similar types of authorial stances in their English RA introductions to those of international authors writing in English.
