This study aims to understand the sacred from the space of a football field, the symbols evoked by the name of the stadium and, mainly, the aura of glory expressed by the name of an athlete who was part of a historical moment in the existence of the brazilian club Palmeiras that defended in the year 2015. To undertake the research, we elaborate a theoretical scope based on the postulates of Eliade, a scholar of the sacred and its manifestations. Also, due to the bias of the concepts of Jungian psychology, the imaginary of Durand and Maffesoli we weave arguments that strengthen the analysis performed. As a methodology, we use the mitochristic method of analysis proposed by Durand when conceiving the anthropological theory of image studies. This methodology allows us to analyze from the symbols the mythical narrative that is entangled in cultural objects, in this case, the question of the sacred associated with the achievements of a football team. The studies pointed to the imbrication between sacred, symbology and myths that are present in the relationship between a passionate crowd, the birth of a hero and his sacred space.

This article examines forms of appropriation and mediated deliberation of news on the page of the centennial Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo accessed through the global social networking platform Facebook. The study focuses on interactions among users from the point of view of quality of participation, going beyond common practices of (dis)liking and/or sharing. Comments to news articles posted by the newspaper are taken as a more active and detailed kind of participation for exchanging public communication argued by reasons. A comparative corpus of analysis was selected in the months of October 2015 and October 2016, totaling 386 posts and 1,911 comments, in order to understand and differentiate valid and responsible forms of participation able to construct and sustain democratic debate. One of the main findings was that 185 posts of the Estadão newspaper in our studied period of October 2015 generated 1,195 comments, but only 38% of these comments were considered to be qualified ones. One year later, data revealed completely different evidence. Although there were more posts on the Estadão page on Facebook, totaling 201, there were considerably fewer comments. Participation is discussed within the troubled political context and its relationship with the dramatic economic recession in the country.

Technology, especially information and communication technologies, is a central variable in modern propaganda. Propaganda implies someone having powerful means of spreading a message, a possibility guaranteed by technique. This relationship can be drawn under a second form: technology as propagated content. The aim of this paper is to analyze this aspect, but articulating it with the material disposition of technology in everyday life as an also propagandistic way of presenting it. To this end, the concepts of "propaganda"by Jacques Ellul and "rhetoric"by Michel Meyer are articulated. In Ellul, propaganda is a totalizing practice; in Meyer, rhetoric is about questioning, an aspect sometimes absent of media - a fact associated with propaganda. It is believed that technology today presents itself as a totalization and with lack of questioning about its orientation. To demonstrate this, a set of cases and data are shown that identify the existence of a rhetoric of contundency in the communication of technology (called “front plane”) and in the experience of technical artifacts as consumer goods in everyday pragmatics (called “background plane”). In sum, an analysis is made of the state of the discussion about technical development, checking its weakness and highlighting its ethical and political implications.

With the common and dominant use of digital social networks, new communication and collective mobilization practices emerged, as well as new configurations of acting and manifesting in public. In this essay, we ask where collective action begins and ends in relation to the connective action (Bennett and Segerberg, 2012), admitting that these modalities or logics of action can be mitigated, in a hybrid regime. To do this, we begin by understanding communication as both action and participation, then examine collective, situated and public action and finally consider the connective action. We intend to discuss the permeable boundaries between connective action and collective action, with reference to the movement “Que se lixe a Troika” (“To hell with troika!”), which emerged on digital social networks and had protests on the street in the 15th September 2012 and the 2th March 2013. At the same time, the network’s activism and the mobilization in the street are questioned. Therefore, the purpose is to question if the digitally networked action or the connective action, which brings together several users, can constitute a collective action.

Computational media allow the development of very particular relationships with readers. Their nature allows them to register static information, as well as complex and contingent behaviours, that they are then capable to operationalise, becoming interactive and immersive. These media exist in a dual state, between a surface layer and a subface layer. These two are inextricably connected, with the subface often becoming a black box that can only be peered at through its surface effusions, that simultaneously mediate and isolate it. The procedural layer of the subface can however be discovered through a process of virtuosic interpretation that allows readers to form a theory of system , to breed empathy with it, and ultimately, to transfer some processes to the human’s mind. This paper focuses on how virtuosic interpretation is developed, how from it stems the development of a unique type of aesthetic experience, how is it that computational media become narrative games that involve readers in anamorphosis, and how narrative develops from a dialectics of aporia and epiphany.

This study about political commentary in the newscasts looks at commentary as an indicator of the relationship between the media and politics in Portugal. In order to do that, the profile of commentators is analyzed in both free-to-air and cable network chan- nels, from 2000 to 2015. The quantitative and longitudinal analysis showed that television commentary slots are occupied mainly both by journalists and politicians, and that the increasing presence of one profile did not imply the declining presence of the other throughout time. The study also showed a division of the commentary slots between the power parties and a stronger presence of commentatos coming from the right-wing parties. Results indicate that the interactional models between the media and politics theorized by the concepts of political paral- lelism and journalistic interventionism help us to argue that the media coalition around the power parties and also the autonomy of the media are both explanatory factors of how prime-time commentary has evolved throughout time. This study suggests that primetime punditry reflects and it is also a consequence of the complex relationship between media and politics in Portugal.
