Photonic crystal fibres (PCFs) can now be constructed exhibiting a wide range of dispersion profiles and nonlinearities, which have enabled the demonstration of many nonlinear optical phenomena. In this paper, PCF, which has zero group velocity dispersion in the red region of the spectrum has been constructed using optical parametric oscillator.

Velocity-matched generation of terahertz pulses in the organic crystal DAST 有机晶体DAST中太赫兹脉冲的速度匹配产生

P Efficient generation of THz radiation through optical rectification is possible by using relatively long (-1 ps) optical pulses in materials with high second order susceptibilities when the group velocity of the optical pulse is matched to the phase velocity of all generated THz wavelengths. We show that these requirements are met by the organic salt DAST (4-N,N-dimethylamino-4'-N'methyl stilbazolium tosylate) which has already been shown to be a good THz emitter by rectification of sub-100 fs optical pulses [ I ] .

High density recording and plasmon technology with Ag nanostructures 银纳米结构的高密度记录和等离子体技术

In this paper, we propose a unique method to produce Ag nanoparticles and nanowires covering a whole surface of a 12-cm optical disk substrate, and describe the signal characteristics of the disks. By applying local plasmons, recording characteristics have greatly been improved; for example, the signal carrier to noise ratio (CNR) of 100-nm recording pattern is now beyond 40 dB comparable to conventional optical data storage systems.

Spectrochemical elemental analysis of small liquid droplets 小液滴的光谱化学元素分析

The most important task of modern analytics is to gain more information from ever smaller sample quantities. A high requirement exists for analytic procedures that combine a highly specific separation process with a highly sensitive and meaningful detection system. We developed a new analytical technique combining high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) with laser induced breakdown spectrometry (LIBS). This enables a molecule-specific separation followed by an element-specific analysis of smallest amounts of complex samples.

In this paper, we demonstrate the use of fiber-optic tunable diode laser spectrometer within the thermal tuning range from 1581 nm to 1584 nm a CO/CO/sup 2/ absorption line pair with a frequency separation of 3.65 GHz between the line centers for the measurements of CO and CO/sub 2/ concentrations inside the sealed CO/sub 2/ laser tubes.

Using the nonsteady-state photo-EMF technique for verification of Einstein relation in PVK based photoconductive polymers 用非稳态光电动势技术验证PVK基光导聚合物中的爱因斯坦关系

In this paper, we propose relatively simple experimental procedure for measuring the diffusion coefficient D and drift mobility in a single experimental configuration, which can be used for verification of the Einstein relation in amorphous photoconductors. Our method is based on utilisation of the nonsteady state photo-EMF effect excited in the bulk of a photoconductor by a vibrating light interference pattern. Experimental results obtained in a photoconductive polyvinylcarbazole-based polymer in reflectance configuration are presented. In our analysis we consider a monopolar photoconductor with arbitrary structure of trapping centres and no saturation of these centres during formation of the space charge field.

Luminescence lifetime measurements in diffusion doped Cr:ZnSe 扩散掺杂Cr:ZnSe的发光寿命测量

Cr-doped ZnSe single crystals were shown to be promising materials for mid-IR laser applications. Roomtemperature continuous wave Cr:ZnSe lasers with optical-to-optical efficiency more than 60%, output power as much as a few watts and extremely broad tuning range exceeding 1100 nm were demonstrated recently. The post-growth diffision doping was reported to be one of the promising methods for preparation of Cr:ZnSe crystals of laser quality [I-21. Diffusion doping provides low optical losses and ability to control chromium doping level by varying the diffusion time and temperature. The luminescence lifetime measurements study of predominantly polycrystalline samples was published in [I]. Here we report on the extensive lifetime measurements in single crystalline Cr:ZnSe grown by PVT and CVT methods and diffusion doped with different chromium concentrations. Undoped ZnSe bulk single crystals with optical losses less than 0.01 cm-' in the spectral range 6om 1200 to 2500 nm were grown by the vertically arranged physical vapor transport (PVT) in closed quartz tube without seeding. Then the crystals were cut in plates with thickness of -3-4 mm. The 0.1-0.3 microns thick chromium Elms were deposited onto their surfaces in a magnetron sputtering system. Diffision was carried out in evacuated fused silica ampoules in the temperature range (800-1000) C during 1-10 days. Nineteen samples with different doping levels were selected for lifetime measurements. The optical quality of samples was chracterized by FOM (figure of merit) defined as a ratio of absorption coefficients at 1770nm (absorption peak) and 2500 nm (emission peak). For the majority of samples FOM was measured to be as high as 150-200 while optical losses were less than 0.1 cm-' at 2500 nm. An average chromium concentration N, was calculated using the absorption cross section value of 1.lx10~'' cm2 for Cr:ZnSe applied in [I] and recently proven by absorption saturation measurements. It varied from 2x10'' to 22~10'~ cm.' in different samples. The decay time measurements were independently perfonned using two set-ups. The first one consisted of the 1.6 pm Raman laser with IO ns pulse duration as a pump source, focusing and collimating optics and the fast InAsSb photodiode coupled to a digital oscilloscope. The second setup used a modulated 1.6 microns laser diode as a pump source, and a InSb detector with 0.5 microseconds time constant. The reabsorption effect was studied using the samples in the form of the sharp wedge. The lifetime measured in the thin wedge differed by as much as 10-15 % as compared to the bulk crystal. The large reabsoption lifetime increase follows from the significant absorption and emission spectrum overlap at room temperature and high index of refraction of ZnSe, and should always be taken into account. The measured lifetime varied from -6 microseconds for N,.=2xl0'* cm" to -3 microseconds for N,=22x101' cm" (Fig.1). Decreasing of the lifetime was observed also for sample

The first one consisted of the 1.6 pm Raman laser with IO ns pulse duration as a pump source, focusing and collimating optics and the fast InAsSb photodiode coupled to a digital oscilloscope. The second setup used a modulated 1.6 microns laser diode as a pump source, and a InSb detector with 0.5 microseconds time constant. The reabsorption effect was studied using the samples in the form of the sharp wedge. The lifetime measured in the thin wedge differed by as much as 10-15 % as compared to the bulk crystal. The large reabsoption lifetime increase follows from the significant absorption and emission spectrum overlap at room temperature and high index of refraction of ZnSe, and should always be taken into account. The measured lifetime varied from -6 microseconds for N,.=2xl0'* cm\" to -3 microseconds for N,=22x101' cm\" (Fig.1). In this paper, the theoretical modeling of a mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser, in an unidirectional ring cavity containing a polarizer placed between two halfwave plates, was considered. The phase plates allow to control the orientation of the eigenaxis of the fiber at each side of the polarizer. The fiber is assumed to be birefringent and to have gain, group velocity dispersion and optical Kerr nonlinearity.

1.6 W single-mode oscillation from a novel monolithic ring laser 一种新型单片环形激光器的W单模振荡

The output power of monolithic ring lasers is limited to 1-2 W by pump-light induced thermo-optical aberrations. The novel cavity design consists of a Nd:YAG disk of 100 /spl mu/m thickness, which is diffusion-bonded on top of an undoped YAG ring laser. The novel cavity design shows potential for power scaling of monolithic ring lasers. The oscillating Eigenmode within the cavity is polarized elliptically.
