A finite element model for predicting the tensile behavior of carbon naotube 预测碳纳米管拉伸性能的有限元模型

An effective continuum/finite element (FE) approach for modeling the structure and the deformation of single- and multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is presented. Individual tubes are modeled using Frame like structure with beam elements., The effect of van der Waals forces, crucial in multi-wall nanotubes, is simulated by the construction of spring elements. The success of this new CNT modeling approach is verified by comparing simulations of deformation of single-wall nanotubes with molecular dynamics results available in the literature. Simulations of final deformed configurations are in excellent agreement with the atomistic models for various deformations. The approach was then applied to the multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), and the deformed configurations were compared to corresponding pervious data. The proposed approach successfully predicts the experimentally observed values mechanical behavior of SWCNTs and MWNTs. Presented results demonstrate that the proposed FE technique could provide a valuable tool for studying the mechanical behavior of different type of nanotubes, as well as their effectiveness as load-bearing entities in nanocomposite materials.

Biohydrogen production using dark and photo fermentation: A mini review 利用暗发酵和光发酵生产生物氢:一个小回顾

Biological production of hydrogen is the most environmental friendly method in producing hydrogen, a clean fuel which produces only water upon combustion. There are many references available on biohydrogen production. This paper presents a review on current biological hydrogen production focusing on dark and photo fermentation processes. Limitation for hydrogen production such as source of substrate, type of microorganism employed and operational parameter are discussed in this paper.

Local stereo matching algorithm: Using small-color census and sparse adaptive support weight 局部立体匹配算法:采用小色普查和稀疏自适应支持权

This paper proposed an effective disparity estimation algorithm based on census transform with adaptive support weight, called small-color census and sparse adaptive support weight (SCCADSW). Census transform provides high resistance to radiometric distortion, vignette, and noise because it are based on the relative ordering of local pixel intensity values rather than the pixel values themselves. This transform is widely used in many computer vision applications. A simplification technique such as using small-color census is used to determine the initial matching cost. The color distances are transformed using small census transform to keep the information of the color. To derive support weights, Manhattan distances are used for all pixels of the support window to the window's center point. Property of adaptive support weight leads to improved segmentation results and consequently to improved disparity maps. This work is still on process, to test the algorithm; it will use the Middlebury benchmark. According to analysis of each step of the algorithms, the proposed SCCADSW can achieve good performance among stereo methods that rely on local optimization.

Evaluation of mental stress using physiological signals 利用生理信号评估精神压力

In this paper, an objective method for the evaluation of mental stress has been proposed using physiological sensors. Brain and autonomous nervous system are believed to be affected by stress. It will be useful to measure the changes of physiological signals in these parts to evaluate stress. Stress stimuli which should be used in physiological studies to evolve stress has very crucial role in generating good results. Correlation of results from multiple sensors data can enhance the accuracy of results and can provide a common metric to evaluate mental stress.

Reliability-evaluation of digital circuits using probabilistic computation schemes 基于概率计算方案的数字电路可靠性评估

The reliability is one of the serious issues confronted by microelectronics industry as feature sizes scale down to nano-design level. In this paper, we are providing the analysis to find the accurate and efficient method of finding circuit's reliability among the available options. The experimental results provide the reliability evaluation of few probabilistic computation schemes. The comparison will be done on unique platform to choose the best scheme amongst all. The simulations have been conducted on small test digital circuits including LGSynth'93 circuits.

Tensile and swelling properties of polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan/halloysite nanotubes nanocomposite 聚乙烯醇/壳聚糖/高岭土纳米管复合材料的拉伸和膨胀性能

Halloysite nanotubes filled nanocomposite films based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/chitosan (CS) blend were prepared via solution casting method. Tensile, morphology and swelling properties of the nanocomposite films were investigated. Addition of 0.5 wt% filler leads to improvement in tensile strength, elongation at break and Young modulus of the nanocomposite films. Increase roughness and tearing in the fracture surface morphology further supports the tensile results. Moreover, the presence of HNT in the blend reduced the swelling of the nanocomposite films in distilled water.

Effects of curing temperature and superplasticizer on workability and compressive strength of self-compacting geopolymer concrete 养护温度和高效减水剂对自密实地聚合物混凝土和易性和抗压强度的影响

This experimental work focuses on the effects of super plasticizer and curing temperature on the workability and compressive strength of self-compacting geopolymer concrete (SCGC). SCGC is an improved way of concreting execution that does not require compaction and is made by complete elimination of ordinary portland cement content. The parameters investigated were superplasticizer (SP) dosage and curing temperature. SCGC were synthesized from low calcium fly ash, activated by combinations of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solutions, and by incorporation of superplasticizer for self compactability. The SP dosages were 3%, 4%, 5%, 6% and 7% and the different curing temperatures were 60°C, 70°C, 80°C and 90°C. The effects of SP dosage on workability properties such as filling ability, passing ability and resistance to segregation were evaluated. The fresh properties were measured using slump flow, T-50 V-funnel, L-Box and J-ring test methods. The essential workability requirements for self compactability according to European Federation of National Associations Representing Producers and Applicators of Specialist Building Products for Concrete (EFNARC) were satisfied. Results showed that the workability and compressive strength improved with the increase in Super plasticizer dosage. An increase in strength was observed with the increase in curing temperature up to 70°C. However, the strength decreased when the curing temperature increased beyond 70°C. The compressive strength of 51.52MPa was obtained for SCGC with SP dosage of 6% and cured at 70°C oven temperature.

Ants are abundant, diverse and ecologically dominant. P. longicornis is an invasive ant which is accidentally spread by human commerce around the world. P. longicornis may act as a predator upon pest species in plantations and agriculture farms. In spite of that, this cosmopolitan ant species is also a pest in houses (Fox et. al, 2007). P. longicornis is one of the most common ants found in buildings and would be the first species to arrive in a newly disturbed habitats or new buildings (Lee, 2002). The aim of this study is to determine and compare the variation in behaviour and nesting of P. longicornis found in wooden and concrete houses. Thus, this study intends to update all biological information on P. longicornis that is not much being studied worldwide.

P. longicornis is an invasive ant which is accidentally spread by human commerce around the world. P. longicornis may act as a predator upon pest species in plantations and agriculture farms. In spite of that, this cosmopolitan ant species is also a pest in houses (Fox et. al, 2007). P. longicornis is one of the most common ants found in buildings and would be the first species to arrive in a newly disturbed habitats or new buildings (Lee, 2002). The aim of this study is to determine and compare the variation in behaviour and nesting of P. longicornis found in wooden and concrete houses. Barriers to the use of public-private partnerships for provision of public infrastructure in developing countries: A review 发展中国家利用公私伙伴关系提供公共基础设施的障碍:审查

Public private partnerships (PPP) or Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) are the new age procurement strategy used by many governments across the world to provide the much needed world-class public services for their citizenry. The strategy emanated from the UK in 1992 and has spread across the entire globe though in varying degrees. Developing countries are still trying to find their feet under this procurement strategy, the reasons for this lethargy stems from a number of factors which though within the purview of these countries but has continued to elude them. Public private partnerships adoption is meant to curb sovereign debt burden, increase Value for Money (VFM) of constructed assets, manage the risks of time and cost overruns, improve the quality of the final product, improve efficiency of public services, assist in public sector reforms under the New Public Management (NPM), reduce project life-cycle costs, promote local economic growth, strengthen national infrastructure, hasten development and create a private sector-led economy. The above benefits are indeed novel however achieving them using this procurement strategy requires the fulfillment of a number of conditions; therefore it is the aim of this paper to highlight the barriers and conditions that must be met for this procurement strategy to thrive in developing countries

Frequency domain analysis for float-over barge subjected to random waves 随机波作用下浮船的频域分析

Floatover barges are used for the installation of topsides onto jacket platforms recently. In this study, a frequency domain analysis was performed for a float-over barge subjected to random waves. The excitation forces acting on the floating barge were derived by Froude-Krylov approach. In this paper, seven different sea states were specified for the analysis and the results are presented in terms of Response Amplitude Operators (RAOs). Three motion modes were analyzed namely surge, heave and pitch. The results are presented and conclusions arrived at. The resulting RAOs decrease with an increase in draft while longer wave periods are associated with larger surge, heave and pitch responses. The findings provide guidance for the conceptual design and development of such structures.
