Polarization-sensitive magnetic field induced modulation of broadband THz pulses in liquid 液体中宽带太赫兹脉冲的极化敏感磁场诱导调制

We demonstrate broadband THz modulation in liquid under the applications of suitable magnetic fields. 65% modulation has been obtained using 50mT. The modulation is polarization sensitive and achieved thanks to a magnetic-induced medium anisotropy.

Process-induced strain bandgap reduction in Germanium nanostructures 锗纳米结构中工艺诱导的应变带隙减小

We studied the photoluminescence of tensile strained germanium nanostructures. Sub-micron gratings and pillars were fabricated before being coated with strained silicon nitride films. Using different deposition conditions and different sizes of structures the stress in the nanostructures can be controlled. The measured optical properties of the samples show that the direct band-gap is shifted drastically towards higher wavelengths over 1.9 μm. This local control of the stress in germanium nanostructures opens the route for both emitters and photodetectors above 1.6 μm wavelength which are not easily available and also potentially towards a germanium laser.

Self-referencing using two adjacent 2-dimensional photonic crystals is investigated. The two resonances are shown to have nearly identical quality factors and sensitivities. A split-flow microfluidics scheme for partial functionalization or differential measurement is also demonstrated.

We study the thermal effects on flow and transport of species near 1550nm silicon photonic crystal nano-tweezers. With a silicon nitride based 1064nm alternative we reduce heating to 0.3K temperature increase and demonstrate molecular tweezing.

We demonstrate optical reconfiguration of coupled photonic crystal nanobeam cavities by using optical gradient force. The on-chip temperature sensing scheme along with pulsed operation allows us to estimate and control thermal and optomechanical effects.
