We report on optical bistability based on injection locking of hybrid III-V/Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) nanolaser. Switching power is measured below 40μW. 30ps switching time is deduced from gain recovery time measurement.

We present a new “soften-and-squash” method for turning microspheres into high quality, stand-alone microdiscus resonators. Due to the annealing involved in the fabrication process, their measured Q factors are one order of magnitude better than the starting microspheres.

We fabricate a directed optical logic circuit on silicon-on-insulator platform which can implement the addition of two bits. For proof of concept, a thermo-optic switch effect is employed with an operation speed of 10kbps.

A highly efficient 355nm Nd:YAG laser is developed in an intra-cavity triple resonance setup. By using novel harmonic configurations, we have eliminated the requirement of linear-polarization on the fundamental laser and its consequent power loss.

We study noise characteristics of high Q silicon nitride nanomechanical resonators integrated in a nanophotonic circuit. Quality factor up to 2.2 million is measured and an intrinsic frequency noise spectrum with kBT/f dependence is observed.
