Petroleum based mineral oils have been used for liquid insulation in high voltage equipment since long time ago. Despite the obvious popularity over time, these oils have been found to be lacking in property requirement and most importantly in their negative environmental impacts. Due to the increasing awareness and sensitivity regarding environmental concerns, there is a need for either an alternative or a total replacement since petroleum is one of non-renewable energy source and may be gone one day. In this research, vegetable oils which have been studied in order to investigate the potentiality and suitability which could be a replacement of mineral oil. However, the selection of a typical dielectric fluid depends on its physico-chemical and electrical properties beside the nature of the service it will perform. For the physico-chemical properties, the parameters investigated are density, kinematic viscosity, flash point, fire point and pour point. Then for the electrical properties are breakdown voltage, dielectric dissipation factor and relative permittivity. The study shows that the vegetable oil give preferable performance compared to mineral oil.

An analytical approach is presented to evaluate the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of a multicore fiber (MCF) communication system with On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation scheme. The expressions of the signal power at the output of the different cores of the MCF with excitation to any one of the cores is found out along with the crosstalk due to coupling among the cores. Finally, the expression for Signal to Crosstalk Ratio (SCR) at the output of the excited fiber core is found. The BER for a given data rate is then determined numerically for different MCF parameters and transmission distance. The outcome of this research work will be useful to design fiber optic system with Multi-core Multi-mode fiber running at BER comparable to single mode fiber links.

Many biomass solid wastes are being considered to be potential sources of renewable energy. In this paper, mahogany seeds, sawdust, rice husk and coconut shell are considerable feedstock which are used for pyrolysis system to produce non-conventional fuel. The products obtained while using these feedstock are pyrolysis oil, solid char and gas. The property of the oils produced from different biomass feedstock varies with various parameters; for instance: operating temperature, running time and feed size. This liquid oil can be a non-conventional source of renewable energy if the process is further developed. This paper organizes and summarizes some selected laboratory experiments and literatures on fixed bed pyrolysis of the mentioned biomass feedstock and focuses on the analysis and comparison of the property of the produced liquid oils from them.

A smart grid is a modernized electrical or digital information and communications technology to gather and act on information such as information about an automated fashion to improve the efficiency, reliability, economics, and sustainability of the production and distribution of electricity. Substation automation of electric power distribution system is an important step to implement the Smart Grid technology. The focus of this paper is to introduce a new protection system for double bus and to familiarize with substation automation to Bangladesh where the power system is very detailed, complex and quite aged. Though it is a very new and expensive concept, yet Bangladesh Government has showed positive approach.

In this paper, recognition of human activity, involving patterned eye movements, such as reading is introduced. Recognition of human activities is an important part in implementing ubiquitous, context-aware computer applications where computers can communicate with humans in a more interactive manner. Eye movement is a potential instrument in activity recognition as most of human activities involve movement of eyes. This paper describes a method to recognize reading activity from the eye movement patterns. Electrooculography (EOG) signal is used to quantify the eye movements in terms of electrostatic potential. The EOG signal is recorded using electrodes, placed at appropriate positions around the eyes. The extracted EOG signal is then analysed to detect eye movement patterns in connection to reading activity.

Graphene has extremely high thermal conductivity which can be used as a great heat spreader. The novelty of this work is to propose an optimized shape of heat spreaders with less temperature than others researchers' data. The simulation result has varied by COMSOL software with the various shapes of heat spreaders and to select an optimized shape. This paper is demonstrated the inclusion of several hot spots at three locations for analyzing the overall temperature distribution. An optimized shape has been achieved by changing shape's architecture to make more efficient thermal management system of these heat spreaders. This proposed shape has less temperature than the reference shape of other researcher. The temperature distribution of all shapes has also been correlated and discussed with the size of these shapes.

This paper demonstrates a combined control system for grid connected Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind turbine and few water electrolyzers connected to the output of this wind turbine. DFIG is getting popularity for modern high power and variable speed wind farms. Renewable hydrogen is a modern concept to minimize the cost of production of hydrogen, which is usable in fuel cell. The abundant wind energy can be used to produce hydrogen by electrolysis of water. As the wind speed is fluctuating in nature, the output power is also fluctuating which can cause serious trouble in power system operation. In this system the grid and the electrolyzers share the generated power from the DFIG in such a way that the output fed to the grid is smoothed. Again as the water electrolyzers should not be operated in fractional power and to maintain average operation cycle for each unit to maximize their longevity, proper switching is necessary. Thus a new switching control technique is also proposed. Performance of the system and production of hydrogen from the electrolyzers has been simulated and analyzed using PSCAD™ program.

A Postbeamformer Interference Canceler (PIC) processor is a two stage system where the weighted sum of beams formed at the first stage is used to produce the system output. This paper presents a method to study the robustness capability of the PIC processor using orthogonal interference beam (OIB) against location errors for near field broadband sources. The robustness of the proposed processor is also compared with that using optimal element space processor (ESP).

In comparison with conventional two level converters, multilevel converters present lower switching losses, lower voltage stress on switching devices, lower common-mode voltages and better harmonic performance. Due to these remarkable features, nowadays the application of this technology covers a wide range, where high-quality voltages and currents are required. However, the multilevel converter requires a number of switching pulse width modulated (PWM) signals, which cannot be generated by using a single digital signal processor (DSP)/microcontroller because the available DSP at present only can provide about 12 PWM channels. In this instance, the field programmable gate array (FPGA) is the natural choice to develop the control circuit of multilevel converters. In addition, the most common software such as MATLAB/Simulink and Xilinx ISE Design Suite-based alternative design technique is used in this paper, which may reduce the developmental time and cost of the controller. The design and implementation of the switching controller, test platform, and experimental results are analyzed and discussed.
