Experimental Performance Evaluation Among Cloud Infrastructure Providers Under Different Load Levels 不同负载水平下云基础设施供应商的实验性能评估

Background: Performance testing can estimate the capacity of a web service under requests. Decision-making on the ideal cloud service infrastructures for deploying specific cloud applications is challenging. Goal: Investigation on the performance of cloud infrastructure providers under different load levels. Method: An experimental study evaluated Amazon, Azure, Google, and IBM cloud infrastructure providers in terms of performance under Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) perspective. Results: The results indicated satisfactory performance in response time and latency among most providers when subjected to up to 300 simultaneous threads. However, this effect decreases as the number of threads increases, and Apdex index value and level of user's satisfaction are significantly reduced under different load levels, mainly for the IBM provider. Besides, the error rate rises substantially at 400 threads, with more critical results for IBM and Amazon providers. Conclusions: Providers show distinct differences across metrics, and the data collected during testings reinforced the potential particularities of cloud infrastructure services for the choice of a provider. Although preliminary, such results can support software companies in selecting a proper infrastructure provider according to particular requirements.

An Evaluation of WebAssembly in Non-Web Environments WebAssembly在非web环境中的评价

In 2017, WebAssembly, a portable low-level byte-code, was released by the four major web browser makers to address the challenges presented by the maturation of the web and the rise of sophisticated and interactive applications such as 3D visualization, audio, and video streaming, and online games. JavaScript heretofore was the only built-in language of the web, and unfortunately, it is not well outfitted for the rich applications that have come to dominate the web today. Since its initial release, WebAssembly has made great strides on the web. With the WebAssembly System Interface release in March 2018, which allows WebAssembly to communicate with the operating system, it has become possible to run WebAssembly applications outside web browsers. This paper reviews the current state of WebAssembly and its system interface, describes the costs and benefits of these technologies for applications in different environments, and evaluates performance and portability. Our performance measurements demonstrate that WebAssembly is generally faster than JavaScript and, in some cases, can approach native code performance. Despite its limitations which make WebAssembly useless for specific applications domains, it nevertheless, has the potential to be beneficial in many environments and is likely to grow further even outside its original web environment.

Developing a hand gesture recognition Web system 开发一个手势识别Web系统

With the popularization of different ways to interact with computers, gesture recognition is an area of increasing interest among researchers around the world because of how it enables a user to control an application by performing static hand gestures in front of a camera connected to his machine. In this project, therefore, a Web application that allows users to create their own systems that are capable of recognizing the static gestures that they wanted without the need for a computer with a high processing power was developed, the application also allowed the user to store and load the generated system, avoiding the data loss and provides incentive for sharing of usercreated systems. After the implementation of a Convolutional Neural Network that is based in a MobileNet model, this work was validated by sequences of tests that displayed the feasibility to create systems capable of recognizing gestures with high accuracy.

Information Security Culture Model. A Case Study 信息安全文化模型。案例研究

This research covers the problem related to user behavior and its relationship with the protection of computer assets in terms of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The main objective was to evaluate the relationship between the dimensions of awareness, compliance and appropriation of the information security culture and the asset protection variable, the ISCA diagnostic instrument was applied, and social engineering techniques were incorporated for this process. The results show the levels of awareness, compliance and appropriation of the university that was considered as a case study, these oscillate between the second and third level of four levels. Similarly, the performance regarding asset protection ranges from low to medium. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the variables of the investigation, verifying that of the total types of incidents registered in the study case, approximately 69% are associated with human behavior. As a contribution, an information security culture model was formulated whose main characteristic is a complementary diagnostic process between surveys and social engineering techniques, the model also includes the information security management system, risk management and security incident handling as part of the information security culture ecosystem in an enterprise.

Image analysis for automatic classification of lichens by taxonomic identification of the type of thallus growth 地衣菌体生长类型的自动分类图像分析

Recently, the study of lichens has acquired relevance by their potential for production of medicines as well as bioindicators of air quality and ecosystem health. However, computational studies for automatic classification of lichens are few. These investigations depend on availability of large volumes of images for the training process, a scenario quite far from reality. Therefore, it is crucial to identify image descriptors for improving classifier performance, under a limited number of samples. This article introduces a novel method to automatically classify lichens using a descriptor, robust to scale, rotation, and illumination variations, and based on analysis of textures and color. By applying a support vector machine (SVM) classifier, an average F1 score of 99.3% is achieved when classifying lichens in the three categories: crustose, fruticose, and foliose. The method supports the work of taxonomists and facilitates inexperienced users to identify and characterize lichens.

Development of a Web Application for Individual Carbon Footprint Calculation 个人碳足迹计算Web应用程序的开发

Due to climate change, humanity has been developing various methods to measure environmental impacts caused by human beings in the world, one of these is the carbon footprint. With the intention to raise awareness of people about the importance of adopting more sustainable habits, a web application is included that calculates the individual carbon footprint of the Brazilian and provides information on the calculations used. The calculations performed are based on the GHG Protocol methodology and compared to those used in existing Brazilian calculators. The study made allowed to verify aspects as methodological standardization and categories used that contributed to the development and evaluation of the implemented application. A usability test was performed, through an online form containing some tasks to be performed in the application and issues related to usability and content. The evaluation result shows that the objectives have been achieved and provides a general overview of the users' experience with the use of the application.

The impact of personality in using technology to ask and offer help: The experience of the Chatbot “UC — Paraguay” 个性对技术提问和提供帮助的影响:UC -巴拉圭聊天机器人的经验

In the context of the project “WeNet: Internet of us” we are studying the role of diversity in relation to Internetmediated social interactions. In this paper, in particular, we analyze a possible relationship between personality aspects and social interaction mediated by digital platforms. More specifically, we rely on the five personality traits (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness to Experience), commonly referred to as “Big-five”, and associate them to automatically extracted behavioral characteristics derived from the experience of using a Chatbot for a closed community of students at the Universidad Católica “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” (UC). The personality data comes from a self-report made by the users through questionnaires. The main results show very positive appraisals about the use of the Chatbot in terms of user experience and its main functionalities. As for the role of personality in relation to the main use of the Chatbot, although further experience is required to confirm trends, the results suggest that there are some correlations between some of the five personality traits and the length of questions and answers as well as the selection of best answers.

In this paper, in particular, we analyze a possible relationship between personality aspects and social interaction mediated by digital platforms. More specifically, we rely on the five personality traits (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness to Experience), commonly referred to as “Big-five”, and associate them to automatically extracted behavioral characteristics derived from the experience of using a Chatbot for a closed community of students at the Universidad Católica “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” (UC). The personality data comes from a self-report made by the users through questionnaires. The main results show very positive appraisals about the use of the Chatbot in terms of user experience and its main functionalities. Taxonomies using the clique percolation method for building a threats observatory 分类法使用集团渗透法建立威胁观测站

Cyberattacks are increasing every day, demanding that security incident response teams proactively determine potential threats early. Although social networks such as Twitter are a rich and up-to-date source of information where users use to tweet about different topics, it is complex to efficiently and effectively obtain results that support decision-making on a specific subject, such as cyberattacks. Therefore, in this work, we propose to use an offline mining process based on the clique percolation method over a corpus of tweets in order to generate an indexed knowledge base about cyberattacks. Results are promising to observe threats under evolution. Then, to show results properly, we generate an observatory prototype to allow cybersecurity researchers to explore threats over time and space.

A Plugin for Analysis the Usage of Virtual Courses in the Moodle Platform Moodle平台虚拟课程使用分析插件

Learning Management Systems (LMS) consist of a set of virtual tools, focused on the teaching-learning process. In large educational institutions, the number of virtual courses created in this type of environment is significantly high, which raises challenges regarding the administration and maintenance of such courses. One of these challenges is gathering information about the usage of these courses, i.e., whether they are merely used as file repositories, as communication channels with students, or as a framework of learning resources available in the LMS (such as quiz, chat, questionnaires, among others). This paper presents a computational resource (plugin) for the Moodle LMS. This plugin is able to classify, in real time, the type of usage of the virtual courses created in the LMS. In addition, we present the preliminary results obtained with the usage of this plugin at the UFLA (in English, Federal University of Lavras).

Thunderstorms are one of the most amazing meteorological phenomena of nature, but, unfortunately, lightnings can be dangerous for people, fauna and infrastructure. America is one of the regions in the world with the most intense convective systems, and Argentina is one of the countries with most electrical storms. In this context, a web and mobile application called GeoRayos was created as an interdisciplinary project to study and detect lightning strikes in real time, and visualize electric field, to raise awareness and prevent accidents and fatalities to the general public. Nowadays, GeoRayos is currently used by decision makers from various institutions such as Civil Defense, National Fire Management Service, and National Parks, as well as meteorologists from the Argentine National Meteorological Service.
