Objective To describe the prevalence of newly graduated nurses as second victims of adverse events and to know the conditions of support received in health institutions. Methods Cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study. The population consisted of newly graduated nurses who agreed to answer the online questionnaire with questions related to being hired at the institution, involvement in adverse events and management of the second victim condition. Contacted was by email, intermediated by the Regional Nursing Council of São Paulo. Descriptive data analysis and the test of equality of proportions were performed. Results The final sample consisted of 138 nurses, 54.3% were unaware of the term ‘second victim’, 44.9% were unaware of the existence of institutional protocols for emotional support to professionals and 26.8% were involved in adverse events. Of these, 94.6% presented emotional distress, frustration, guilt, sadness, stress, inability, embarrassment and insecurity to perform their duties at work as an outcome of the event; 59.5% received some type of support and 21.6% received institutional punishment. Conclusion The prevalence of newly graduated nurses involved in adverse events was 26.8%, and among those who experienced this incident, the majority presented negative feelings and insecurity in performing their work as an outcome. After the event, most of the time, the support received came from work colleagues and significant others. Regarding institutional support, the need for programs for emotional support is also highlighted, so that these professionals can overcome when finding themselves in the place of the second victim.

Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between preoperative care dependency and postoperative quality of recovery in patients undergoing surgery. Methods: The sample of the descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study consisted of 215 patients. A Patient Information Form, the Care Dependency Scale and the Recovery Quality-40 Scale were applied to the patients through face-to-face interview technique in order to collect the data between June and December 2018. This study adhered to Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology guidelines. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between Care Dependency Scale and the Recovery Quality-40 Scale mean scores of the patients and their physical comfort, physical independence, and pain in terms of age groups and genders (p<.05). A positive and moderate correlation was found between the patients’ care dependency and physical independence. Conclusion: It was observed that when the care dependency level decreased, the patients needed less assistance throughout the postoperative recovery period, as they were able to carry out their daily activities independently.

Objective To understand the meaning attributed to the reception of a manual by families of children with acute leukemia. Methods Qualitative study based on the theoretical framework of the Reception Study. Online interviews were conducted with families of children undergoing treatment for acute leukemia at different stages of treatment and who used the manual ‘My child has acute leukemia. How about now?’ for thirty days. The WebQDA® software was used in the organization of data analyzed according to the inductive Qualitative Content Analysis. Results Participation of nine families represented by seven mothers, one father and one grandmother. From the analysis, emerged analytical categories related to the context experienced by the family when receiving the manual and to the evaluation of the language and illustrations. The meaning attributed by the family to receiving the manual, based on interactions with it, is ‘Having the Hope of Healing Strengthened’, which helps them to face the adversities of the treatment and keeps them optimistic about the best prognosis. Conclusion The use of informative materials facilitates communication with the team, promotes the family’s health literacy and strengthens their hope for a cure.

Objective To develop and validate the content of a mobile application prototype on Pressure Injury (PI) Prevention for elderly caregivers. Methods Methodological study of prototype-type technological production in mobile application. The application development was guided by the Contextualized Instructional Design (CID) model. The content validation stage was carried out by seven teaching nurses of a technical course for elderly caregivers in a federal educational institution with the application of the Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results The prototype, which was named LPPrev, contains information about the concept, staging, causes of LP, and main affecting sites, in addition to reminders to reposition the elderly in bed; registration of nutritional information, oral hydration, body and intimate hygiene, and guidance on preventive care is also possible. The content evaluation obtained 96.6% of agreement between professors, being considered a material of superior quality. Conclusion LPPrev is an application prototype properly structured according to the categories evaluated by the SAM, with relevant information for caregivers of bedridden and dependent elderly, contributing to theoretical knowledge and fundamental care in the prevention of injury by pressure, being prepared to move on to the other stages of the DIC model.
