Objective To understand the challenges faced in terms of permanent education in health, for achieving quality improvements and patient safety at a public hospital undergoing hospital accreditation. Methods This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 22 professionals, lasting an average of 22 minutes. The interviews were subsequently analyzed and interpreted using Bardin’s thematic content analysis. The software Iramuteq was used to analyze the textual corpus, and BioEstat 5.3 was used to analyze the profile of the participants. The data collection took place in June 2022, following approval by the Research Ethics Committees. Results The descending hierarchical classification analysis, generated by Iramuteq, was applied, resulting in three categories: Challenges of Permanent Education through the Continuous Improvement Process, Permanent Education for the Promotion of Quality and Patient Safety in the Context of Hospital Accreditation, and Educational Strategies for Improving Quality and Patient Safety. Conclusion Challenges inherent to the actions of permanent education in health were identified, such as resistance to cultural change, adherence to activities, high turnover of professionals, and difficulty in releasing the nursing team to participate in activities, due to work demand.

Objective To analyze the role of formal and informal social support in the practice of physical activity during workers’ leisure time. Methods A cross-sectional study carried out with 395 technical administrative workers at a public university. Data were collected using sociodemographic questionnaire, Baecke Habitual Physical Activity Questionnaire and Physical Activity and Social Support Scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Student’s t test, Cohen’s d test and Analysis of Variance. Results Participants who reported some type of support for physical activity in their leisure time (92.2%) had higher means in the physical activity score. Institutional support (58.0%) had a prominent role as a potential influencer compared to support from immediate superiors (14.2%), although they had a certain differential among maintenance workers. Conclusion Social support plays an important role in promoting physical activity in workers’ leisure time. Institutional initiatives to encourage active behavior in the work environment need to be aligned with encouragement by immediate superiors so that they are more effective.

Objective To understand the perception of access to food and food quality for the street population. Methods This qualitative descriptive study was performed in a Reference Center for the Homeless Population in the south-central region of Belo Horizonte (MG). A semi-structured script was used to conduct interviews with 18 participants. Data collection occurred between December 2020 and January 2021. The thematic analysis of the material, as proposed by Bardin, made it possible to elaborate three empirical categories. Results The public interviewed was male, with a mean age of 43 years, and a mean time on the streets of 44.6 months. Access to food came from donations, meals at government institutions, and acquisition when income was available. Difficulties were reported regarding the quantity and quality of food, acquisition of meals on weekends, feelings of fear and anguish in the face of hunger, lack of food, and social stigma, which were aggravated by COVID-19. Conclusion As in this scenario of social inequalities the access to food is not guaranteed, implementing public policies of social protection is necessary to guarantee basic rights.

Objective To assess emergency service professionals’ sleep quality and its association with the level of fatigue and quality of life. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study, carried out in the units of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and in the Emergency Care Unit (ECU), in 2021, with 108 participants. To assess sleep quality, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Brazilian version (PSQI-BR), was used; to assess fatigue, the Chalder Fatigue Scale was used, together with the Need for Recovery Scale (NFR); and to assess quality of life, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-bref) was used, and the instruments used were adapted to Portuguese in previous studies. Association tests were applied for statistical analysis, using Pearson’s chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test or Kruskal Wallis and Spearman’s correlation. P-values <0.05 were considered significant. Results It was identified that 72.2% of participants had poor sleep quality and 75.9% were fatigued. A significant association was observed between sleep quality and fatigue, the need for recovery and quality of life. Conclusion It was identified that health professionals working in emergency services have poor sleep quality and life, and high levels of fatigue and need for recovery, which can directly impact their personal and professional activities.

Objective Associate demographic and work data and the empowering behavior of the nurse-leader from the perspective of nursing technicians and assistants. Methods Cross-sectional and correlational research carried out in a tertiary university hospital in the state of São Paulo. A total of 260 mid-level nursing professionals (nursing technicians and assistants) participated, using self-administered instruments from May to August 2021. To verify the association between the scale classes and the explanatory variables, a chi-square or Fisher’s exact test was performed in the SAS program. Relationships were statistically significant if p<0.05. Results The profile of the participants was predominantly female, mean age 41.9 years, daytime workers, workload of 36.7 hours and satisfied with their work. The application of the Leader’s Empowering Behavior instrument showed that the domain with the highest average of empowering behavior was “meaningful work” and the one with the lowest average was “autonomy in relation to bureaucracy”. Nursing assistants and technicians who worked during the day did not have other work relationships and were satisfied with it, in addition to observing the leader’s empowering behavior more. Conclusion Nurses’ behavior to empower their team, from the perspective of technicians and nursing assistants in the studied hospital, was good in most domains, except in the domain “autonomy from bureaucracy”, where it was reasonable. Working the day shift, not having other jobs and being satisfied with the job were aspects of greater empowerment.
