Background: Back pain is a common event in the general German population, but little is known about pain prevalence among occupational therapists (OT).

Objective: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of pain and associated factors in German OTs.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey study. The prevalence of acute, chronic, and recurrent pain was calculated, and factors associated with chronic and recurrent pain were identified using multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Results: A total of 444 OTs (89.41% female) with a mean age of 37.78 (SD = 11.63) years were included into the final analysis. Prevalence of acute pain was 3.83% (95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 2.25%; 6.06%), of chronic pain 15.54% (95% CI: 12.30%; 19.25%), and of recurrent pain 43.02% (95% CI: 38.36%; 47.77%). The most frequently affected pain site was the lumbar spine. Significantly associated with chronic pain was the level of depression (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 1.05 [95% CI 1.00; 1.10]; p ≤ 0.042) of study participants. Recurrent pain was significantly associated with a standing working position, working in geriatrics, stress level, and the level of graduation in multivariate analysis.

Conclusion: This study estimated the prevalence of pain and identified factors associated with chronic and recurrent pain in participating OTs. To provide prevention measures and to identify more factors, further studies should be conducted.

Background: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic-related changes and guidelines, nurses in the setting of inpatient geriatric care are exposed to specific burdens and may experience dilemmas with respect to their moral responsibility.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explicate the effects and perceptions regarding the development of moral distress of nurses in the setting of geriatric care during the SARS-CoV‑2 pandemic in Germany and to draw conclusions for the design of care in residential care settings.

Methods: Based on a subgroup analysis (n = 510) of the qualitative survey of the COVID-19 Nursing Study, perceptions of nurses working in residential care settings during the pandemic are presented and evaluated with respect to the development of moral distress.

Results: The results show five categories ("That we have no time to care properly", "Loneliness", "Conflicts with relatives and residents", "Constant fear for patient safety but also for one's own safety" and "Grief, stress and anger"), which represent differentiated criteria for the development of moral distress among nurses as well as its effects.

Conclusion: It can be concluded that structural and professional solutions must be developed that enable nurses to shape their own working environment and to undertake professional nursing decision-making competence.

[Identification of measures conducive to learning for the introduction of digital and assistive technologies (DAT) in processes of nursing care: a qualitative study].

Background: Digital, assistive technologies (DAT) are finding their way into care processes. There are no concepts for introducing nursing professionals DAT in a structured manner. A structured concept makes sense for a sustainable implementation of DAT. This paper suggests a guideline to train nurses in dealing with DAT.

Aim: The work addresses the question of how nursing professionals experience and evaluate a structured approach of sensitization, qualification and testing with respect to DAT. This is also intended to assess the extent to which a transformative learning approach changes the willingness of nurses to use DAT.

Method: In a long-term inpatient facility, nurses have been made aware of DAT and instructed in its use. The nurses were trained in using two robotic systems and a passive exoskeleton. The experience and perception of the structural design of the educational approach were surveyed through interviews. Evaluation took place by qualitative content analysis according to Kuckartz.

Results: All 5 nurses surveyed had completed 3 years of training in nursing care. 2 of the interviewees perform tasks in the management of the care unit. All interviewee rated the structured approach positively. The approach increases the interest to think about an integration of DAT. It turns out that the accuracy of fit of DAT to care-related problems as well as the necessity to make DAT available by employers are crucial prerequisites for DAT integration into practice.

Conclusion: A structured concept can sustainably increase the willingness of nurses to use DAT. Poor implementation of DAT is based on a lack of knowledge and concepts for education and training. The reflection that has been initiated enables DAT to be checked for specific care problems.

Background: The current coronavirus pandemic has had various effects on older people's everyday lives. Within the framework of pandemic-related protective measures, people over 65 years of age in particular were asked to stay away from public places and avoid direct physical contact.

Aim: This paper examines how the pandemic affected the feelings of people over 50 years of age with regard to the limited daily supply of everyday things, outdoor physical activity and social contact.

Material and methods: In May and June 2020, telephone interviews were conducted with 1011 people aged 50 years and over living in Switzerland. The average respondent age was 65 years and 53% of the respondents were women.

Results: The results show that the respondents hardly felt any negative changes in their supply of everyday things or outdoor activity; however, 43% of those surveyed stated that during the pandemic, with its associated protective measures, they more often felt that they were unable to spend enough time with people they cared about. The multivariate results show that education played a role in the respondents' evaluation of everyday life considered in the interviews.

Conclusion: This study identifies older people's feelings about possible everyday restrictions and should stimulate discussion in practical gerontological work to better consider older people's subjective perceptions.
