An experimental and theoretical study on the Faraday rotation in cadmium sulfide is presented. The contribution of the free carriers is calculated from the experimental curves, and an electron effective mass of 0.20 ± 0.01 is obtained. A detailed description of the experimental arrangement is given, which allows a precision of ± 0.1 degrees.

The vibrational spectrum and the specific heats of silver have been studied by DE LAUNAY's model. Frequencies have been calculated for 1000 points of the Brillouin zone and the specific heats evaluated by the sampling technique. The calculated Cv are in good agreement with the experimental values. (Θ–T) curves obtained from LEIGHTON and BHATIA's models are also given for comparison. It is found that DE LAUNAY's model gives the best fit with the experimental curve. Das Schwingungsspektrum und die spezifische Warme von Silber wurden mit Hilfe des DE LAUNAY'schen Modells untersucht. Es wurden die Frequenzen fur 1000 Punkte der Brillouin-Zone ermittelt und die spezifische Warme mit Hilfe der Probenmethode berechnet. Die berechneten spezifischen Warmen stimmen mit dem experimentellen Wert gut uberein. Θ – T-Kurven, die sich aus den Modellen von LEIGHTON und BHATIA ergeben, werden zum Vergleich herangezogen. Es ergibt sich, das das DE LAUNAY'sche Modell die beste Ubereinstimmung mit dem Experiment liefert.

Kinematical corrections derived in Part I are estimated to yield contributions smaller than (T/Tc)4 to the statistical function at low temperatures (T being the absolute and Tc the Curie temperature). It is proved that the kinematical corrections for an isotropic ferromagnetic diminish with the increase of S, the atomic spin quantum number. Die in Teil I der vorliegenden Arbeit abgeleiteten kinematischen Korrekturen werden weiter untersucht. Es wird bewiesen, das die kinematischen Beitrage zur Zustandssumme bei niedrigen Temperaturen kleiner als (T/Tc)4 sind (Tc ist die Curietemperatur). Es wird gezeigt, das die kinematischen Beitrage in einer isotropen kubischen ferromagnetischen Substanz mit zunehmender atomarer Spinquantenzahl S abnehmen.

It is shown that some problems concerning the distortion of plates and rods by dislocations can be solved very simply with the help of Colonetti's theorem. The relation between the plastic deformation and the electrical potentials produced by the movement of charged dislocations is also examined.
