Authors analysing the one year material of injured in one county, state the age and sex specific incidence in the two types of fractures. Compared with other European data they found difference in male/female distribution: the values concerning women are substantially lower in the county Vas, those of men are on the other side equal. To clear the difference and the tendency further examinations are thought to be necessary, especially regarding the increasing importance of femoral fractures of the hip region in public health and national economy.

In congenital malformation of the limbs the shortening of the extremity appears frequently together with its deformity. With Ilizarov's apparatus the limb may be lengthened simultaneously with the correction of the deformity. In spite of the fact that the use of the apparatus is rather complicated and complications are frequent, in 75 cases out of 102 excellent, in 23 good results were achieved. The various indications and results are demonstrated in 7 cases.

Authors think the early recognition of the spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis in young age important, as for the further life of the patients (sport, military service) adequate councels have to be given. After a short literary review authors analyse the clinical and pathological process of the traumatic fat embolism. They call attention to the difficult diagnosis of the syndrome and to its frequency. The demonstration of the fat globuli from the peripheric blood is suggested by the authors who perform this as a screening for an easier diagnosis--if characteristic clinical symptoms are also joined to the microscopic finding.

The author gives in connection with the description of the case of an idiopathic carpo-tarsal osteolysis of a six year old female patient a short literary review of this rare disease. The nephropathy previously frequently observed in the cases described appeared in the form of a typical Bartter's syndrome, this connection was not yet observed before.

A 3-10 years follow-up and the evaluation of the 55 cases operated 1980 through 1988 on the Orthopaedic University Hospital in Pécs is presented. The age of the patients at operation was 4.5-10 years, in average 4 years. The operation consisted of four components: operative reduction, varus derotation femoral osteotomy, acetabular plasty and transposition of the iliopsoas muscle. In 53 cases excellent or good Roentgen anatomical and functional results were found. In one case after the operation complete femoral head necrosis has developed, in two cases a transient ischaemic state was observed that healed however without functional deficiency.

Authors give a literary review of the pathomorphology and distribution of the Monteggia injuries. The necessity of the correct reduction of the ulna and the role of the interosseous membrane, the strength of which is able alone to eliminate the luxation of the radial head and to keep it on its proper place, are underlined and stressed. With the demonstration of a 9 week old injury it is proven: it is possible to restore the severely damaged elbow function with an adequate operative treatment.

In this paper the method of ultrasound examination of the hip and the results in 38 cases with acute and subacute hip complaints, suspect of transitory arthritis of the hip, are described. We could state that the increase of joint synovial fluid, causing typical complaints and clinical symptoms can be demonstrated with this method and its measure can be determined. The possibility to follow with objective method the whole time of regression of the process is also given. Based on our results we suggest the use of this method in the examination of cases suspect of the transitory arthritis of the hip as a supplement of the methods used until now.

Authors used to cover the defect of the wrist region in consequence of electric burn reverse ulnar artery island flap with success. The method described was used in one case and it is suggested in similar circumstances.

Authors used in 1988 simultaneously sonography and arthrography during the treatment of 10 patients admitted with the diagnosis of cyst or tumour around the knee. The experiences with the comparison of the 2 methods are summarized. As this use of the method is first described in this country, before the description of their own material the relevant available foreign literature is also discussed. It is stated that in the differential diagnosis of the cysts around the knee the 2 methods may give good complementary informations. It is stressed that if a choice is possible, the sonography is the method of choice, being exempt from X-rays, noninvasive, not causing pain and cheaper.
