This article aims to analyze biographical trauma writing in Ian McEwan’s Atonement (2001). In this novel, the narrator and protagonist Briony Tallis decides to become a nurse during The Second World War, as some kind of personal penance. Her auto fictional writing, nonetheless, reveals a possibility to repair her past trauma. The text addresses, more remarkably, the therapeutic properties of autobiographical fiction writing, having as references current assumptions both on trauma theory and life-writing.

Within French post-war society, the reassessment of the Second World War and the French collaboration with the national socialist occupants started comparatively late. According to French historiographer Henry Rousso, France suffered from ‘Vichy-Syndrome’ until the 1970s, when the suppressed past surged and brought about an obsessive focus on the period of the Occupation, that France hasn’t overcome until this day (Rousso/Conan 2013). Since the mid-1970s, the period of the Occupation has also increasingly been made a topic of fictional literature. Especially around the turn of the millennium is when many novels are published that discuss the time of the German occupation in France (1940-44). This article analyzes three novels that deconstruct the Gaullist myth of the France resistante and turn against the metaphor of the annees noires. The novels Dora Bruder (Patrick Modiano, 1997), La cliente (Pierre Assouline, 1998) and Un amour sans resistance (Gilles Rozier, 2003) make the gaps in the official discourse of memory visible and highlight the shades of gray that lie between resistance and collaboration.

El present article examina les representacions corporals en la novel·la Infinite Jest (David Foster Wallace, 1996) amb la guia d’algunes preguntes. Quina es la concepcio ontologica del cos que es soste en la novel·la? Quin es el paradigma relacional que des d’aqui es proposa? L’article s’obre amb l’analisi de la presencia d’algunes corporalitats considerades no normatives i la seva construccio –en primer lloc, els cossos malalts i discapacitats–, des dels principis de l’estetica de l’assemblage, de costat amb el dispositiu narratiu de la novel·la. Mes endavant, s’estudiaran alguns casos individuals amb l’objectiu de contrastar la hipotesi segons la qual el que hi ha en joc en l’obra es la reescriptura de la concepcio tradicional de la corporalitat, concebuda com a hermetica, autosuficient i sostinguda en els limits de la individualitat. Per reforcar aquesta idea es posara especial emfasi en la relacio amb els altres cossos i, particularment, amb les substancies additives: aquestes darreres permetran l’aproximacio a la idea de transcorporalitat, que es manifesta com a expressio superlativa del rebuig a la forma unitaria i tancada del cos.

Der Artikel bietet zunachst einen interpretativen Uberblick uber die wesentlichen Phasen der deutschen Aufarbeitung des 3. Reiches, bis hin zu jenem Erinnerungsboom in Literatur und Film, der Ende der Neunziger Jahre einsetzte. Dieser Boom ist einerseits gekennzeichnet durch eine extreme Kommerzialisierung der Vergangenheit, andererseits aber auch durch kritische Ruckblicke auf fruhere Phasen des Erinnerns, in denen eine klare Instrumentalisierung des Schuldvorwurfs der Nachkriegsgeborenen gegen ihre Elterngeneration aufgedeckt wird. Die Erkenntnis leitende Motivation nachgeborener Generationen hatte teilweise, so der Vorwurf, mehr mit eigenen moralischen und politischen Projektionen als mit der Vergangenheit und ihren Akteuren selber zu tun. Das legt die Hypothese nahe, dass die literarische Suche nach Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit mit zunehmender zeitlicher Distanz zum 2. Weltkrieg an Glaubwurdigkeit verlor. The literary work of Annemarie Schwarzenbach is part of the German Swiss literature from the interwar period. The novel Das gluckliche Tal (1940) has been considered by Rohlf (2002) as an example of exile literature although it was not written in exile. The objective of this essay is to determine, to what extent the notion of ”exile literature“ can be applied to this and other works of Schwarzenbach. It develops the concepts of the antifascist literature about exile, the motif of the exiled and the wandering traveller, as well as the metaphor of exile. Reading the novels Flucht nach oben and Tod in Persien and the short stories “Das gelobte Land“, “Verklartes Europa“, “Sehr viel Geduld...“ and ”Drei Tage Morgendammerung“ under the scope of exile, one arrives at the conclusion that the literal concepts of exile are fading in light of a more metaphorical sense of exile. The essay ascertains that the designation of Swiss exile literature is only applicable if we situate every work in the historical context of its aesthetics and its testimonial value.

El llibre de poesia El bell pais on els homes desitgen els homes , de Biel Mesquida, ha estat considerat sovint un text transgressor per diversos critics i estudiosos. Dificilment, pero, aquesta formulacio de la transgressio ha estat definida de manera clara: que transgredeixen els poemes i com se suposa que ho fan? L’objectiu d’aquesta investigacio es confrontar la nocio de “transgressio” en la seva arrel etimologica amb els poemes que conformen el volum de Mesquida, i fer-ho mes concretament analitzant la transgressio d’alguns codis sexuals i de genere. Aixi doncs, aquest estudi reposa sobre el caracter transitiu i contextual del fenomen de la transgressio i ho fa a partir de l’analisi de la resignificacio de la sexualitat a traves de la paraula. Amb el contingut i tambe amb alguns aspectes formals presents en els poemes d’ El bell pais… , Mesquida contradiu, estrafa, amplia i subverteix nombrosos codis socials relacionats amb la sexualitat i estableix un dialeg universal amb l’escriptura del cos i del desig.

T he literary sources of the “back-to-nature” theme —as it is famously deployed in Heinrich v. Kleist´s Das Erdbeben in Chili (1807) — haven´t been yet enough studied. In the present essay we propose two important philological precedents, recognizable in C. M. Wieland´s Beytrage zur geheimen Geschichte des menschlichen Verstandes und Herzens (1770) and in Chapter Five, Book IV, from J. W. Goethe´s Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre (1795). Our main thesis is that Kleist´s literary approach to the intellectual and ideological issues involved in the different versions of the topic displays an unusual reading of J-J. Rousseau´s work in the aftermath of the French Revolution.
