F1 hybrid mice (C57BL X C3H) suffering from graft-versus-host disease, were treated with dianhydrodulcit (DAD) a lymphotrop cytostatic agent. 15 mg/kg of the compound was injected intraperitoneally, 8 days following the administration of the parental spleen cell suspension. The interaction between the two interventions is discussed on the basis of the rate and time course of deaths observed is the individual groups, as well as on the state of the lymphoid organs of the succumbed and sacrificed animals.

Horse immune sera do not give satisfactory results in immunochemical techniques based on electrophoresis of antigens through antibody-containing agarose gel. As the majority of precipitating horse antibodies belongs to the beta globulins, they migrate in the gel during electrophoresis. After enzymatic treatment the pepsin fragments work well in all electroimmunodiffusion methods.

As a consequence of living human leukocytes administered intrauterinely on the 16th day of pregnancy, it was not possible to study the litter since it fell victim to cannibalism immediately after delivery. After the administration of sonically disintegrate leukocyte antigen healthy newborns were dropped. Living human leukocytes administered before the age of 2 day to mice treated in this way, produced no GVH reaction ascertainable with loss of weight but a considerable number of deaths occurred in comparison to the control. Further possibilities of studying the anti-human anti-thymocyte serum by means of cell chimeras are discussed.

The sensitivity of newborn and suckling mice to a lymphotropic cytostatic agent (DAD) was found to be increased as compared to adult mice. Results indicated that a single dose of DAD being ineffective in adult mice, caused irreversible impairment in the lymphoid system of newborn and suckling mice with underdeveloped lymphoid system. This led to the development of lethal wasting resembling the wasting syndrome. On the basis of its consequences the DAD treatment, applied in newborn age, may be considered as "cytostatic thymectomy".

By the statiscal analysis of the data the linear regression equation and standard deviation of the dose response function of the Hungarian Reference Purified Protein Derivative of Tuberculin (HR--PPD) have been determined. From the values of reaction diameters of the HR-PPD and of their standard deviation a diagram was plotted that can be used to estimate the identity of test material by comparison with the reference preparation. The diagram meets the condition that the limits of the standard deviation of the reference and test materials together are wider than the predetermined limits of +/-20%. The inaccurate titrations can be detected with its help at once. Using the diagram, the potency of test material can be promptly estimated in the biological assay of tuberculin made in guinea pig.

Studying the shock-inducing effect of ATS and NHS in young (10-day-old) mice weighing 10-11 g, the authors have found that normal serum proved to be a significantly stronger sensitizing agent. Such a difference in the shock-inducing effect of the two sera can no longer be observed in the course of challenge. The paper discusses the observed phenomenon, taking into account the data available on the ontogeny of the immune apparatus of the mice.

In view of the fact that anaerobic diagnostics have become a matter of primary importance, the authors have developed the RCM medium with certain modifications. Owing to its good keeping quality, this medium can be used also on smaller laboratories for demonstrating the presence of anaerobic bacteria and for carrying out germ counts. It constitutes and adequate base for the anaerobic blood medium and for the Wilson-Blair medium, and also for the determination of the antibiotic resistance of the anaerobic bacteria. The sensitivity of this medium surpasses that of the thioglycollate medium, and is suitable in its carbohydrate-free form also for testing the strains for their sugar-fermentative capactiy. Our work was aimed at serving the anaerobic diagnostics of clinical laboratories, and at serving at the same time the method of demonstrating the presence of anaerobes becoming increasingle important in the food industry.

It was not possible to produce the wasting disease in newborn mice by administering human leukocytes in Hanks' solution, or suspended in m-ATS or h-ATS. The attempt of the authors to produce immunosuppression by the administration of m-ATS started at newborn age-as a result of which the human immunocompetent cells would have produced serious GVH reaction-resulted only in a trend of GVH. The authors used only body weight measuring for detecting the GVH reaction. More sensitive parameters will be employed in their experiments in progress.
