The book of the famous Russian sociologist L.G. Ionin about Max Weber attracts attention with its unusualness. The review describes various facets of its unusual genre, highlights and examines the levels of the author's consideration of his subject — the personality of an outstanding Western sociologist. It is concluded that the author applied the Freudian methodology to explain the twists and turns in the fate of M. Weber, since they are closely related to the intimate side of his life. The creative approach of L.G. Ionin to understand the hero of his “intellectual novel” in the context of his classic sociological doctrine is analyzed. In conclusion, the reviewer dares to make his own assumptions about what Max Weber's “drama of life” consisted of.

The article discusses the methodological features and heuristic boundaries of the method of implementing a qualitative research strategy in sociology — body mapping. In addition to describing the advantages of this method in health and disease research, as well as other areas related to the social cognition of physicality, a brief overview of the methodological steps that must be followed when using body mapping is provided. The stages of the introduction of this method into sociological disciplines from art therapy practices are described, in which body mapping has demonstrated itself as a non-standard way of obtaining extralinguistic information.

The work is devoted to the consideration of the modern Cossacks (on the example of the Kuban), in particular its collective identity through the prism of a complex of theoretical approaches: the theory of masculinity (in the dimensions of hegemony and militarization), as well as affective solidarity grounded on the theory of collective identity. Empirically, the collective identity of the Cossacks is considered through the narratives of the representatives of the Kuban Cossack army, where it is invoked and categorized. The results of the study were the categorization contour of the modern collective identity of the Cossacks. The center of the social identity of the modern Cossacks reveals a historical pattern of militarized masculinity, which is significantly saturated with affective experiences of informants when pronouncing certain categories. The presence of such an experience provides a more complete interiorization of the specific foundations of identity by the Cossacks.

This paper analyzes the dynamics of the relationship of spouses and reveals the role of “relational reflexivity” on the example of interviews with two young families conducted in 2019 and 2021. The study based on the assumption that relational reflexivity plays a significant role in the stability of family relationships: its presence can strengthen them, and its absence can lead to a crisis in the family or to divorce. According on the results of comparing the narratives of two couples, changes in relational reflexivity in each family over time. We trace these changes through the analysis of the respondents’ narratives which we will explain through the category’s relational reflexivity — “self-detachment” and “relational steering” which create a “sense of us” using the methodology of the already existing research in the field of family sociology researchers Donati, Moscatelli, Ferrari, Paris, etc. In their work, the researchers rely on relational theory of sociologists Donati and Archer and argue that for the emergence of “relational reflexivity” in the family, it is necessary to take into account two states of individuals in a pair — “ability to manage relationships” (relational steering) and “distance from oneself” (self-detachment), which allow relationships to be resilient to the hardships of family life by constructing a “we-relation”. Thus, the strength of an alliance may depend on the response to external circumstances, how decisions are made and how destabilizing situations are resolved. The opposite of “relational reflexivity” can be “individualism”. In Archer and Donati's logic of reflexive relations, individualism has similarities with “autonomous reflexivity”, for which it is important to focus on “I” and not “We”. Thus, excessive individualism in a couple can create precedents for ignoring the joint difficulties that arise in the life of each partner, and create difficulties in managing relationships, which in the future can lead to a crisis in the family and affect the joint future.

The social context of modernity is characterized by systemic transformations, constant changes, the fundamental feature of which is uncertainty, the fundamental possibility of negative consequences and outcomes of processes, events, phenomena, decisions.Subjective feeling, personal assessment of risk and one's own vulnerability, and, consequently, the degree of security become a factor in designing a strategy for interacting with a risky environment. The identification and selection of adequate methods for measuring factors that are involved in the subjective assessment of risk and vulnerability, the interpretation of the meanings that respondents put into understanding the phenomenon of security, are an interesting scientific problem and a significant task for social practice. The article attempts to demonstrate the complementarity of sociological data obtained by methods of quantitative and qualitative empirical sociology, both at the stage of designing and piloting tools, and when interpreting the results. The discourse is carried out in relation to the currently relevant problem of human security. The empirical section of the article demonstrates the perspective of the approach to measuring the subjective assessment of security in mass surveys through the indicator of sufficiency of the sense of security and the factors associated with it. Thus, a statistically significant relationship of the feeling of security with gender, age, type of settlement, education, with subjectivity, that is, with responsibility for risk, was revealed Nevertheless, there was a clear insufficiency of the semantic component to ensure the reliability of the interpretation of the result obtained, a request for additional information, for which the use of methods of qualitative sociology, working just with the semantic level of consciousness, is indispensable. The result of applying the methods of qualitative sociology (interview, focus discussion) the following typology became established: when responding, respondents correlated their safety assessments mainly with the presence/absence of threats to the physiological state and material and property status of the personal and immediate environment. The positions of comparing personal security assessments with non-material factors are also revealed: with the presence of relatives and friends, with instability and uncertainty that threaten the social and life prospects of one's own and the immediate environment. In the older age group, security is understood as having a strong authority that ensures order. The complementarity of quantitative and qualitative sociological methods increases the reliability and completeness of the interpretation of mass survey data regarding the phenomena and processes under study.

The study focuses on three narratives as they unfold within the academy and contextualize academic trauma. The first examines the manifestations of the classical social science structural-agency dilemma in the university setting. The second reveals the mechanisms of balancing between the objectivity demanded of the academicians and their inherent subjectivity, in the suppression of which trauma is highlighted. The third theme, built around R. Barthes’ model of idiorrhythmia, offers a theoretical understanding of the academy as a social aggregate that attempts to harmonize individual and collective experience. The lines of argument are combined into a single theoretical model, focusing on different aspects of the manifestation of the same phenomenon — trauma. Trauma reveals itself in various aspects of academic life: in informal practices that contradict formal rules, in the demands for objectivity imposed on the social researcher under the conditions of their inalienable subjectivity, in the individualization of academic life while simultaneously attempting to universalize the experience of it. At the same time, the multiple contradictions of academic life prevent critical reflection on them. The study notes the advantages and drawbacks of the autoethnographic approach to overcoming these dilemmas in the situation of the academic’s reflection on their academic experience.

In this article, we will consider the formal and semantic extension of the action-ritual of commemoration of the repressed “Return of the Names”, as well as the emotional characterization of participation. The memory of repressions is a difficult memory, that is more likely to be maintained “from below” — relatively low-resource actors. In this context, the Internet seems to be a promising platform for broadcasting such memory. We will consider the performativity of the ritual of commemoration, that is, the broadening of its forms and meanings by the participants. We reconstruct how they participate in remembrance and express their political and civic position regarding human rights, past and present repressions, and the state. We will turn to emotive markers (affect, emotions, evaluations) as a spectrum, thus seeing how language is able to express feelings about a difficult past, which is problematic to talk about. We will come to the conclusion that the conversation about the difficult past within the framework of the ritual of commemoration occurs to a greater extent through the use of value judgments than affect or even emotions, which means that the ways of talking about the difficult past are largely formed, although the language, discourse does not exhaust the fullness of participants` experiences.
