This paper provides an innovative contribution to the study of rock cemeteries from an anthropological perspective. One hundred and nine tombs, which conserve bone remains, are analyzed from the Tejuela/ Villanueva de Soportilla cemetery which was first excavated by Alberto del Castillo and later on by Aratikos Arqueólogos. There is no clear relationship between types of tombs and sex, although bathtub tombs are more common among women. There is no relationship with age except for very young children, who are mostly buried in tombs of the same type. Although the length of the tombs is correlated with the stature of the individuals, the age or sex of the subject who is buried in an empty tomb cannot be established with precision. Absolute dating obtained from the skeletons are included, providing dates between the last third of the eighth century and the beginning of the eleventh century.

The paleotopography of the city of Gadir-Gades is a fundamental element for understanding the historical process that took place in this unique area of the Atlantic-Mediterranean environment. Recent archaeological and geo-archaeological activities in the central part of the ancient “Bahía-Caleta” paleochannel (Valcárcel Building, 2018) have demonstrated the existence of an active anchorage located between 20 and 40 m circa depth below the current sea level, very fertile from an archaeological point of view; of whose interpretation it can be inferred that this natural channel was open between archaic Phoenician age and at least the Early Roman Empire. This singular finding affects the reinterpretation of the paleotopography of the gaditan islands and the urbanism of the ancient city, that was developed in an insular environment, in front of which it was thought until the date. This paper presents these new findings and reflects on the historical-archaeological implications derived from them, opening suggestive new lines of research for the future.

The Area 11 is located close to a lateral gate of Giribaile. The destruction context caused by fire has preserved building materials: nails, charcoal and vegetation imprints, basically. The distribution analysis of these elements permits an architectural hypothesis about the ceiling of the room. The adobe o mud bricks of the Area 11, made of a big amount of lime, could be used at the walls and even it is possible propose their function such as pavement in an upper floor. A big group of amphorae were inside the warehouse and also other domestic weaving tools.

The procedures of firing sintered red slip potteries in the major sigillatae production centers in Hispania, as well as the structures that their implementation entails, even today, and despite the knowledge generated in the French academia, have largely remained outside the core of the research on the productive processes of Roman pottery wares in the Iberian peninsula. With the approach that we are now carrying out, it is highlighted, from the critical analysis of certain firing structures and archaeological ceramics coming from centers such as Los Villares de Andujar-Isturgi, the existence of not only a single model to obtain Hispanic terra sigillatae of a high qualitative standard and totally sintered red slips on it. At the same time, the geographical implantation of so-called perimeter duct kilns is defined within the framework of an evident of technological transfer process originating in the central Gaulish provinces, circumscribed to the northern half of Hispania

Archaeological fieldwork at the site of Revenga (Comunero de Revenga, Burgos) allowed discovering in recent years some late antique and early medieval pottery sherds. Given their precarious state of preservation, the utilitarian character of these products and the still existing lacks of knowledge in this domain, the materials found introduce some interpretative problems. We attempted to solve some of these throughout the petrographic characterization of these vessels. According to the results obtained new significant data contributing to the knowledge of peasant communities at the Upper Arlanza Basin are introduced, and a more precise occupation sequence at the site of Revenga is discussed, opening new perspectives for future research.

Our work brings an approach to the landscape of Corduba’s funerary areas during the High Imperial Period, subjected to the vicissitudes of a living city which alternated moments of expansion and contraction. This landscape probably was also object of strong speculation, given the sacrifice involved in dedicating suburban land of enormous economic potential for funerary purposes, and the consequent high price of loci. At this respect, we believe to have detected clear examples of well-planned divisions of the terrain into lots in the form of enclosures, occasionally reinforced by mensurae sepulcri. All this is analyzed through two especially significant sepulcreta recently excavated.

In this paper I present the main results of an extensive pottery analysis carried out on thirty early medieval rural contexts located in the centre and northwestern Iberia. Through an analysis based on the chaines operatoires a sequence of the pottery assemblages between the 5th and 8th century is presented. I will use three main variables: technology, form and regionalization. Thus, I will propose a pottery seriation in different phases which allows for a social and political historical approach of early medieval societies in this territory.

This work aims to analyze the bibliometric data of the journal Archivo Espanol de Arqueologia between 1925 and 2019. It is motivated by being in 2020 the 80th anniversary of the foundation, that arose as a spin-off from a previous title started in 1925. The article analyzes the current presence in documentary bases, the thematic evolution through different stages, the distribution of authorship and the impact through citations, from data that can be extracted from InDICEs-CSIC and Scopus. Likewise, the bibliometric study is addressed in the context of the Spanish journals on Archaeology, through its comparison with other journals of the same subject, present in Scopus and published by public institutions. All these questions offer a quantitative approach to the evolution of Spanish archaeology, as well as its impact compared to other publications.
