ABSTRACT The impact of R&D investment on economic growth has become a hot study in the economic geography and economics, and most of researchers observed that R&D investment has a significant impact on regional growth, and the positive correlation confirmed, however, the evaluation of R&D investment and spatial differences remain to be further studied. This paper is based on the model of Cobb-Douglas production function. With the help of the panel data of 110 cities between 1990-2013, the researchers build the relationship model of R&D investment and regional growth. The results show the long-term and stable relationship of R&D investment and regional economic growth. R&D talent plays more role in the process of regional economic growth, and the impact of R&D investment on regional economic growth show that there exists large differences in sample regions.

ABSTRACT The present research focuses on a study of cultural factors influencing the social integration concerning the social controlling among the adults above 18 years of age living in Bushehr, based on metrical method. Based on the concerned method, the data collection was commenced through distributing questionnaires. Since social integration is considered as an essential need of society, social controlling plays an important role. Therefore, in this paper, an attempt is made to study the elements effective on the social integration, from a cultural perspective. Based on the existing theories on social investments, controlling, and integration and the issues like self-controlling, political and religious commitments, and informal controlling, the theoretical framework is set. The statistical society used in the paper pertains to the individuals above 18 years old. The sample volume Cochran factor with the error rate of five percent was 267. Considering the results from the descriptive, inferential analysis, there is a relationship between the variants of self-control, religious commitment and political legitimacy, and social integration. However, there is no meaningful relationship between the informal controlling and social integration variants.

ABSTRACT This paper reports on the challenges experienced by orphaned adolescent males in Sub-Saharan countries. Literature research indicates that due to lack of physiological needs (for example, parental support, stable environment, clothes) due to orphanhood, a disproportionate number of male youth are prone to myriad of risk sexual behaviour such as substance abuse, promiscuity, sexually transmitted infections and teenage fatherhood. Guided by multi-theoretical approaches including Bronfenbrenner’s ecological system model and Theory of Planned Action by Fishbein and Ajzen, this paper employed systematic review to critically analyse the electronic journals and doctoral theses highlighted the plight faced by this marginalized cohort. Based on the literature findings, this paper argues that orphaned adolescent males may flourish and cope with adversity provided the school, church and governmental sectors collaborate in providing skills and social support necessary to buffer against deviant peers and exposure to disorganized environment.

ABSTRACT This paper reports on the factors enhancing the psychological well-being and positive sexual behaviour of South African adolescent males. The research method for this paper is the systematic review for it provides a logical understanding of literature findings from journal articles, secondary books and doctoral theses to identify gaps of the previous research. This paper is guided by Ryan and Deci’s Self-determination Theory and Ryff’s six dimensions of psychological well-being, namely; autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relationships with others, purpose in life and self-acceptance. Despite myriad of social challenges faced by male youth, this paper found that sex-education, sound teen-parent communication, modelling and church could potentially improve the sexual behaviour and subsequent psychological wellbeing of adolescent males. Psychological programmes in Black communities and schools should be implemented to encourage adolescent males to lead a positive life style.

ABSTRACT In this paper, the researchers analyzed the construction and reflection of Chinese college teachers’ discourse rights under an Internet background. The researchers first surveyed and analyzed the current situation of teachers’ discourse hegemony. Next, the researchers stated the premise, background, means and purpose of teachers’ discour se hegemony digestion and the reconstru ction required to improve teacher-student relationships. The researchers then summarized the main problems of current teachers’ discourse hegemony in classroom t eaching based on observations of education practices. The researchers analyzed manifestations of teachers’ d iscourse hegemony and students’ discourse loss. Finally, the researchers examined the passive effect of teachers’ discourse hegemony and students’ urgent need for discourse power and proposed that teachers’ discourse hegemony digestion and teacher-student relationship reconstruction is necessary.

ABSTRACT This paper investigates challenges encountered by communities of practice in enhancing continuing professional teachers’ development in selected high schools in the Fort Beaufort Education District, South Africa. The study adopted the mixed methods research approach that concurrently integrated procedures in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. It employed structured and unstructured questionnaires as well as face-to-face interviews as data collection instruments. Teachers not having sufficient time to meet due to various workloads and unavailability of permanent space for meeting venue were the major challenges encountered by formal and informal communities of practice. The study concluded that teachers did not have sufficient time to engage in collaborative learning activities. The study recommends that teachers spend adequate time for collaborative learning activities in communities of practice and informal communities of practice activities in high schools should be supported with financial and educational resources by the Department of Education.
