ABSTRACT Representation of a phenomenon in media can impact and shape particular public beliefs, and attitudes and can contribute to social change. As the social role of the hospitality industry has become more salient, this study aims to investigate the representation of COVID-19 and its impact on the Australian hospitality businesses in news articles. Those news articles focus on the hospitality industry in Australia published in the outlets, such as Hospitality Directory, The Hotel Conversation, ABC News, Gourmet Traveller, nine News, and Business News Australia. Using corpus linguistics analysis (CL), we revealed that COVID-19 has been mainly represented as a new and current outbreak that threatened community health and caused restrictions, responses and measures that had to be put in place.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of studies were conducted to better understand “new normal” services from the perspectives of restaurant operators and customers (Kim & Liu, 2022; Wang et al., 2021). Having conducted in-depth analysis, the “new normal” services documented in literature are related to assurance, a SERVQUAL and DINESERV dimension, in regard to employees’ ability to inspire customer trust and confidence (Parasuraman et al., 1988). The review of literature indicates that the physical environment, the hygiene & cleanliness of restaurants, and contactless services are the key attributes that enhance customer confidence in restaurant services (Jeong et al., 2022; Kim & Liu, 2022). It is, therefore, important for restaurant operators to fully understand them to deliver better services to meet customer expectations. However, there is a lack of research that examines “new normal” services in relation to assurance attributes in full-service hotel restaurants during COVID-19. This research note employs a qualitative exploratory study to examine new assurance attributes in regard to hotel restaurants based on two sources of information. The study expects to expand the original knowledge on the assurance dimension in regard to restaurants and to help restaurant operators to acquire a better understanding of new assurance attributes, thereby providing both theoretical and practical contributions.

Modelling international tourism demand to Thailand: an augmented gravity approach

International tourism demand has been cited as mostly following classical economic theory, which suggests that tourism demand is a function of economic factors such as income and price-related factors (Crouch, 1994; Nguyen et al., 2022; Rafiei & Abbaspoor, 2021). However, it has become evident that non-economic variables are also significant in explaining tourism demand (Tatoglu & Gul, 2019; Ulucak et al., 2020). Against this backdrop, Thailand presents an interesting case study as a unique country that has successfully managed political turbulence vis-à-vis a successful coup d’état while keeping the tourism industry resilient. As such, this paper aims to empirically investigate the determinants of inbound tourism to Thailand using an augmented gravity model that introduces institutional quality as a non-standard gravity variable. Although government institutions play a critical role in an economy, institutional quality remains neglected in the tourism literature. Preliminary insights derived from Ghalia et al. (2019) demonstrate that the quality of governance of such institutions and the absence of internal conflict boost tourism demand. In this note, institutional quality is computed based on five indicators (government stability, corruption, law and order, democratic accountability and bureaucracy quality) using paid data from International Country Risk Guide (ICRG). This aggregation reduces the risk of multicollinearity between the variables and is often used in the literature (Catrinescu et al., 2009). The note also captures the time effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT Entertainment tourism experience is an emerging but largely overlooked phenomenon. The current study, adopting a qualitative approach, explored travel motivation and entertainment tourism experience from tourists’ and industry professionals’ perspectives. A total of 33 tourists and 18 industry professionals in Macao were interviewed. Three layers of entertainment tourism experience were identified, namely, behavioural, functional and affective aspects of experience. Furthermore, the three layers of experience were reported to be interrelated and played different roles in creating tourists’ entertainment experience. The study accordingly established an integrated flow of entertainment tourism experience. Moreover, the study offered practical implications to destination marketing organizations, industry practitioners, and tourists on cultivating a desired entertainment tourism experience for the tourists.

Shifts in heritage tourists’ health risk and travel sentiments following COVID-19 pandemic: Evidence from Georgetown UNESCO World Heritage Site 2019

The city of Georgetown, located in Penang, Malaysia, was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS) in 2008 (UNESCO World Heritage Centre, 2021). Since then, it has been a popular global tourist destination among heritage tourists. However, the Malaysian tourism sector has witnessed diminishing returns for the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic (Hanafiah et al., 2021). Studies on health crises have shown an inverse relationship between perceived risk and travel intention (Joo et al., 2021). Nonetheless, there is evidence that a favourable destination image could diminish tourists’ uncertainty and perceived risk (Su et al., 2014). Since destination attractiveness is an important antecedent of destination image and significantly directs tourist flows, this may lead to the intention to recommend as part of an organic and holistic recovery effort (e.g. Afshardoost & Eshaghi, 2020; Jin et al., 2019; Martín-Santana et al., 2017). Notably, the attractiveness of UNESCO WHS lies in its’ highquality standard of in situ experiences (Carreira et al., 2021). Furthermore, UNESCO WHS are safer from COVID infection due to the niche, high-paying, distanced tourist market (Singh, 2021). This study aims to validate these assumptions within the Georgetown UNESCO WHS setting, which reflects tourism recovery readiness in Malaysia. Moreover, this study answered the recent research call from Matiza (2020) to provide empirical evidence on post-health crises in cultural heritage tourist behaviour, which is relatively and currently under-explored. Specifically, this research note intends to address this issue by proposing the following hypotheses:

ABSTRACT This article assesses the risk perceived by hotel guests under Covid-19 by exploring clients’ perceptions in seven critical dimensions for customers’ safety perception: financial risk, front-desk digitalization, entertainment, front-desk service, hygiene and sanitation, hotel characteristics and space management, and food and beverage service. To evaluate clients’ perceptions and expectations a questionnaire was made available to collect data worldwide, resulting in a sample of 1005 responses. The findings show that the frequency of stay influences guests’ perceptions and preferences. The need to provide hygiene care evidence and have the hotel certified for COVID-19 emerged as key factors for restoring trust. This study provides a meaningful contribution by proposing a framework for assessing clients’ perceptions regarding the safety of hotel services.

ABSTRACT While destinations are increasingly tried to attract tourists, changing times call for developing a measurement scale for place attachment. In this regard, the current study adopts a secure attachment theory perspective and develops a robust formative measurement scale for place attachment composed of place identity and dependence, cultural bonding, climate and nature, personal relationships and safety and security. Two domestic destinations (Kerala and Tamil Nadu) in the country (India) and one international destination (the Middle East) were employed to validate the factor structure of place attachment. Using online survey, the study obtained the perceptual responses and were analysed using ADANCO 2.2. Findings suggest place attachment as a higher-order formative construct that significantly enhances willingness to recommend and revisit intentions.

ABSTRACT The purpose of the paper is to apply the Slutsky equation to the Bass diffusion model to examine the price and income elasticities of hotel demand in different tourist destinations including cultural, commercial, and coastal cities. The sample was a set of 120 points by ex-post data from the Smith Travel Research in Vietnam. Findings indicate the price in a leisure destination in the beginning of the tourist area life cycle is inelastic, whereas the prices in the business and culture destinations at the end of the cycle are elastic. This study identifies the hidden cost when demand increases in the three destinations, ultimately allowing hoteliers to effectively strategize when making price changes within their industry.

This study identifies the hidden cost when demand increases in the three destinations, ultimately allowing hoteliers to effectively strategize when making price changes within their industry.","PeriodicalId":87219,"journal":{"name":"Anatolia sport research","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77726496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper examines generational travel behaviour and intentions of Portuguese tourists before and after the pandemic. The comparisons established a framework to understand what really has changed. The sample includes 490 Portuguese tourists. Our analysis revealed three clusters which are distinct in terms of generation belonging and distance travelled, among other variables. The results suggest that the willingness to travel is higher than previously, working as a kind of revenge to mitigate the isolation times. Strategical implications for practitioners are outlined.
