In the book review, column editor Christian Robert reviews three books: Casanova’s Lottery by Stephen Stigler, Bayes Factors for Forensic Decision Analyses with R, and Bayesian Probability for Babies by Chris Ferrie and Dr. Sarah Kaiser. Casanova’s Lottery tells the “history of a revolutionary game of chance.” Bayes Factors for Forensic Decision Analyses with R provides a sort of blueprint for using Bayes factors in forensics for both investigative and evaluative purposes, including R code and free access to the whole material. The final book tells story follows two young girls competing for dinosaur expertise and being rewarded by cookies, in proportion to the probability of providing the correct answer to two dinosaur questions.

Clinical trials are considered the gold standard for biomedical research, and they are the preferred method to support the safety and efficacy evaluation of medical products and devices. However, safety and effectiveness can vary substantially among different subgroups of a target population according to both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, such as age, sex, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, and location. Moreover, some groups continue to be inconsistently included in clinical trials based on their representation in the total afflicted population, which demands serious resolution. From literature review, this article imparts several possible strategies to overcome obstacles in clinical trial access and enrichment.

This column begins a series of book reviews of the three inaugural volumes in the Information Graphic Visionaries book series. The first book to be considered is Florence Nightingale, Mortality and Health Diagrams which is edited by RJ Andrews. The stories told are centered on Nightingale’s diagrams, keeping only the parts of her life that are nec¬essary to understand their creation and impact. Everything about the book’s design and production quality lets you know that the editor, cares deeply about this story and wants you to appreciate it, too.

Over the many decades of his career and through his actions, Samuel "Ed" Nevius fulfilled the mission of the American Statistical Association to promote the practice and profession of statistics on unprecedented levels. Ed died on December 15, 2022. This article shares a brief biography and remembrances from his colleagues. These remembrances of the career and impact of Ed Nevius reinforce that we make progress in the practice of statistics because of the contributions of individuals who are committed stewards of the profession.

This article is based on the Deming Lecture presented at the 2018 Joint Statistical Meetings and reconsiders the "14 Points" on management that were developed by W. Edwards Deming and suggests that these points reflect fundamental concepts and principles that can offer important insights for the statistical community as it responds to these opportunities and challenges related to improvement of the quality, integrity, and societal value of statistical information. The concepts un-derlying Deming's 14 Points can provide a useful lens for considering a wide range of management opportunities and challenges that arise in many complex organizations, especially those that produce or use statistical information.

In our courses and programs, we should focus not only on the content students will learn, but also on the practical skills they will gain. To help students connect the course content and practical skills, we first had to identify the primary audience for each course and the careers those in the classes may seek. Incorporating workforce development skills into course curricula is crucial for preparing students for success in their future careers. These skills, such as independent learning, teamwork, and communication, are highly valued by employers and essential for success in today’s rapidly changing job market.

History provides a fascinating glimpse into human behavior, who the key players were, what they did, and how their activities affected society at large. The history of statistics also has an extra dimension: It provides documented insight into how new and useful statistical ideas are generated. Histories are lost as the cultural zeitgeist changes and collective memory decays. This column will bring back a few of these lost stories of individuals who have been more or less forgotten, but whose ideas have had a profound influence on the daily lives of thousands, if not millions, of people. And of course, the way we practice statistics today. The History Chronicles is a new feature edited by Penelope Susan "Pen" Reynolds and Chaitra Nagaraja.
