The concept of resource management in a crisis was taken from the aviation and adapted to anesthesiology by Dr. David Gaba, in order to reduce medical errors caused by inadequate communication, poor teamwork, lack of material and human resources, etc. To achieve this goal, along with Drs. Steven Howard and Kevin Fish, they postulated fifteen necessary key points to control crisis situations, which range from getting to know the environment where professionals work, to understanding what is needed to integrate an efficient team. In this paper, we describe the relationship and the importance of resource management in a crisis with interprofesional work, and how to implement the different key points.

The medical education in our country is a shared responsibility between academic and health institutions. After the publication that stated that the medical error was the third cause of death, patient safety became a priority in the training of health professionals. This training is based on the strategies that favor the development of clinical knowledge and the collaborative and interprofessional work. The deliberate practice has been used in multiple performance activities and interprofesional work. This measure has been very useful for the health systems; therefore, this is something that must be taught in the first years of the career. The deliberate practice as a learning strategy in the interprofesional education has shown impactful results.

One of the benefits of collaborating in an interprofesional team is the exchange, and the acquisition of knowledge, skills and operational strategies alongside this community. Here, we share an example and an analogy from the medical field: A biomedical engineer, from a simulation center, who has the task of preserving the functionality, integrity and aesthetics of the simulators and the equipment, acquires a role similar to that of a doctor who seeks strategies that focus on maintaining a healthy population. The following is a review of our experience in the Centro de Enseñanza por Simulación de Posgrado (CESIP) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). It should be noted that none of the strategies stated here can be considered as a reference “of excellence” for the operation of a simulation center, due to the great number of particularities in each of them. Finally, we are convinced that sharing our experience may be useful for other centers, especially due to the lack of information available. Keywords: Simulators, maintenance, biomedical, conservation.

Health professionals, such as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, and psychologists, are involved in the care of the patient and its family, but they do not always work together or in an effective ay. This can lead to an inadequate evolution of the patient. Several organizations, such as the WHO, point out that interprofessional education is essential to be able to provide a safer patient care. In first world ountries, education programs that take into consideration interprofessional education are being developed; this will allow professionals to acquire collaborative practices. Interprofessionalism is the process by which professionals reflect and develop prac tices that provide an integrated and coherent response to the needs of the patient, family and society. Undoubtedly, this educational approach is a proposal that requires the integration of efficient work teams focused to provide safe and efficient care to the patients and their families.

The observational research employs certain strategies for the discovery and interpretation of facts through a careful and systematic study designed to answer questions in order to make decisions and obtain new knowledge to solve a problem. Two paradigms guide this research: the positivist (quantitative) and the naturalist or constructivist (qualitative), the first one uses numbers and statistics to explain a phenomenon while the latter interprets the social reality. The educational research in health sciences has increased in recent years; therefore, the interprofessional simulation has also increased. The objective of conducting interprofesional educational research is to identify and evaluate the different factors involved in teamwork and the non-technical skills in the interprofesional clinical education based on simulation. To achieve the expected results, it is important to have high quality tools that are valid and reliable according to its objectives.

In the field of interprofessional simulation, an important element for achieving the stated objectives of the simulation scenario is the debriefing. The debriefing is a complex activity that requires certain skills, experience and knowledge from the facilitator or facilitators, who are known as debriefer/s. Their function is to make the participants reflect on the reasons for their actions, their decisions, and how they acted as a team or individually. Its purpose is the acquisition of a significant learning (achieving the learning objectives) that can subsequently be applied in their daily lives. The interprofessional debriefing styles are varied, but basically its structure integrates: a reaction phase, an analysis phase and an application phase; keeping in mind that the basic standards must be maintained when carrying out a debriefing: time, the construction of a safe learning space, identification, and the closure of knowledge gaps. The advantages of performing an interprofessional debriefing goes beyond the objectives of the simulation, since it favors the acquisition of effective communication skills, teamwork, leadership, the notion of error, etc., which can later be applied in the daily clinical practice.

The complex systems share several characteristics with the interprofessional simulation; therefore, its understanding is necessary to be able to design learning experiences that include, in a balanced way, activities for the different participants. The relative difficulty in predicting the interactions and the results compel the teacher to create a support network with several health professionals previously trained in tasks that are specific to the clinical simulation. The objective of this paper is to facilitate the understanding of the characteristics of education based on interprofessional simulation, its challenges and the key components for its development.

The simulation applied by area of knowledge as a learning strategy is insufficient to maintain patient safety, this lead to the development of interprofessional simulation scenarios. These scenarios must be written for its standardization, application, evaluation, modification and certification. To achieve all these objectives when writing the scenarios, one should keep in mind that they must contain specific elements that will allow any instructor from an external center or the same one, to achieve them. In this work we present a method to accomplish this.
