Abstract In this paper, a new self-learning method using policy iterative adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) is developed to obtain the optimal control scheme of discrete-time nonlinear systems. The iterative ADP algorithm permits an arbitrary admissible control law to initialize the iterative algorithm. It is the first time that the properties of the policy iterative ADP are established for the discrete-time situation. It proves that the iterative performance index function is non-increasingly convergent to the optimal solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. It also proves that any of the iterative control policy can stabilize the nonlinear systems. Neural networks are used to approximate the performance index function and compute the optimal control policy, respectively, for facilitating the implementation of the iterative ADP algorithm. Finally, a simulation example is given to illustrate the performance of the present method.

Abstract The main drawbacks of indoor localization approach based on Received Signal Strength (RSS) is the sensitivity to the fluctuation of measured RSS at a fixed location in difference time. In this paper, a novel multiple target localization approach is proposed by exploiting virtual fingerprinting, which is calculated from spacial relationship between reference nodes and virtual location nodes. The merits of our proposed method is twofold. First, our proposed method does not require the process of RSS fingerprinting constructing, which is a huge burden of localization methods based on RSS. Secondly, our proposed method is more robust than some existing methods, such as TOA-based method and RSS-based method, in big measurement error case. The efficacy of our proposed method are proven by means of some experimental results.

Abstract The pressure system of gas collectors of coke oven is a multivariable non-linear process. In this paper, a model reference adaptive control using the compensatory fuzzy neural network for the pressure system of gas collectors of coke oven is presented. The dynamics model of the fuzzy neural network of the system is identified by the adaptive compensatory fuzzy learning algorithm, which can be employed as the identifier of the system. Another fuzzy neural network is trained to learn the inverse dynamics of the pressure system of gas collectors of coke oven so that it can be used as a nonlinear controller. The simulation results testify that the model obtained is satisfied and the control is effective.

Abstract This paper investigates the problem of H ∞ decentralized tracking control of discrete-time nonlinear interconnected systems under unreliable communication links via Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The T-S fuzzy model consists of N interconnected discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy subsystems, the decentralized control scheme is adopted and the communication links between the subsystem and controller are assumed to be imperfect, that is, data packet dropouts occur intermittently, which is often the case in a network environment. The data loss is modelled as a random process which obeys a Bernoulli distribution. A piecewise state feedback decentralized controller is designed to stabilize the networked interconnected fuzzy system in the sense of mean square and also achieve a prescribed H ∞ model reference tracking performance based on a piecewise Lyapunov function. Moreover, the required H ∞ controllers can be designed by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). A simulation example is given to show the effectiveness of this approach.

This paper proposes an algorithm based on Mean Shift, which improves on the kernel function, alterative weights, combing with Kalman filter and neighborhood searching. These improvements not only enhance the capacity of target tracking, but also reduce the computations to satisfy the need of the real-time job. Furthermore, experimental results illuminate that the proposed algorithm can cope with clutter, target partial occlusions, scale variations and fast moving in the real-time video target tracking.

This paper investigates the design problem of exponential positive observer for a class of discrete-time switched positive linear systems with time-varying delay. A sufficient exponential stability criterion is proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for the underlying system under average dwell time switching. Then, based on the stability results, sufficient conditions for the existence of exponential positive observers are established. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Remote sensing image is degraded by a variety of factors. Sub-pixel imaging technology is a state-of-the-art method to reduce the camera size and improve the spatial resolution. In this paper, we introduce several sub-pixel imaging systems and discuss the resolution of different sampling systems. Then we use adapted reciprocal cell to correct the vicarious spectrum and improve the effectively resolution.

By using the methods of average dwell time, sufficient stability conditions are proposed and expressed as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Based on the obtained results, an effective method which is used for the construction of stabilizing feedback controller is derived, and a numerical example is provided to show the potential of the developed results.

The charged colloidal crystal is one of the hotspots on the condensed physics research. The main reason forming the charged colloidal crystal is that the charged colloidal particles achieve a balance and long orderly arrangement because of the static repelling force between particles and granular Brownian movement. However, the slight fluctuations temperature will cause the strength of Brownian motion changes and then influence the crystallization of colloidal crystal state and crystallization process. This paper solves a key work on the research of colloidal crystal phase dynamics: colloidal crystal solution of high precision low volatility temperature control system. A proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control method based on pulse-width modulation (PWM) is proposed. Then, system identification on the heating system of the sample solution is used to get transfer function, and Hooke-Jeeves pattern search method is used to get optimal parameters of the PID controller.
