This paper describes an approach to select the most relevant subspace in Kernel PCA feature space applied on MFCC coefficients for speech recognition. It has been seen that the relevant information about a supervised classification problem is contained in a finite number of leading Kernel PCA components if the Kernel matches the underlying classification problem. In this paper our contribution is to foster an understanding about the appropriate Kernel selection for different phonemes in a speech database and then create an insight about the most relevant dimensions for those phonemes in that Kernel space. Using this approach we have obtained better results for speech recognition as compared to standard technique.

In this work we have reformulated the twin support vector machine (TWSVM) classifier by considering unity norm of the normal vector of the hyperplanes as the constraints. TWSVM with unity norm hyperplanes removes the shortcomings of the classical TWSVM formulation. The resulting new formulation is a nonlinear programming problem which is solved by sequential quadratic optimization method. The performance of the modified classifier verified experimentally on synthetic as well as on benchmark data sets.

A two-degree-of-freedom control scheme is proposed for enhanced control performance of integrating and unstable processes with time delay. The two controllers in the scheme are well placed to tune from the setpoint and disturbance. The design steps of these two controllers are independent. The H2 optimal control method is used to design the set-point tracking controller and an optimal internal model control (IMC) filter structure is proposed to design a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller that produces an improved disturbance rejection response. The setpoint and load disturbance responses can each be tuned conveniently by a single control parameter. Especially, improvement of disturbance response is extremely great compared with recently reported methods. Illustrative examples show the simplicity and superiority of the proposed controller design method over previously published approaches both for the setpoint response and for the load disturbance rejection.

In the present heterogeneous wired networks, reliability priority consideration is important. Quality of Service (QoS) varies according to congestion in the network and it can be avoided by different TCP Agents using congestion control algorithms. Previously, researches had only analyzed TCP agents, we extend their work to practical simulation for the multisource scenario to compare performance evaluation of different TCP agents: Tahoe, Reno, New-Reno, Sack1 and Vegas, based on QoS parameters like throughput, average end-to-end delay and packet loss by varying number of sources and Advertised Window (AW). Multisource environment is important from real world point of view. The selection of TCP Agents is based on type of application. We simulated TCP agents using ftp traffic and by increasing number of sources. We observed that Vegas works best for accurate delivery of data. Reno and Sack1 are suitable for real time streaming.

Capacitor placement is one of the most important methods in loss reduction and improving the voltage profile of distribution systems. Index, GA and Particle Swarm Optimization methods are used for finding the optimal values of the fixed capacitors in the distribution networks with balanced loading for radial configuration. This methodology is tested on a region of the distribution network of the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Corporation and results are presented. Results are very promising. Particle Swarm Optimization gives better reduction in active power loss with lesser value of capacitor sizes than G.A. and Conventional methods.

This paper introduces the use of a new method of feature extraction based on frequency-time analysis approach for text-independent speaker identification. The impetus for this new feature extraction technique comes from the filter bank summation method of STFT using Nyquist filter bank. The focus of this work is on applications which yield higher identification accuracy without increasing the computational effort. We have proposed this transform from speaker identification perspective. The proposed transformation can be used for both uniform width filter bank and non-uniform width filter bank representation. A complete experimental evaluation was conducted on a database of 61 speakers with Gaussian mixture speaker model. This new feature extraction technique has been compared with Mel-frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) feature. The average accuracy of MFCC feature set was 88.05%. The average accuracy of proposed feature set with uniform width filter bank and non uniform width filter bank was 90.24% and 90.42% respectively. The average accuracy was 92.26% after score level fusion of uniform width filter bank feature and non uniform width filter bank feature of the proposed transformation. The discrimination capability of the proposed feature sets have been evaluated statistically using F-ratio and J-measure. Experimental results show that the proposed feature sets have higher discrimination capability compared to MFCC feature set.

Finite duration Impulse Response (FIR) filter has found its widespread applications in the field of communication as well as digital signal processing because of its attractive features, such as, linear phase response, assured stability etc. In modern digital or mobile communication system, transmitting pulse-shaping filters are more commonly realized by FIR filter. However, such a filter requires quite a large number of filter coefficients as compared to an Infinite duration Impulse Response (IIR) filter and hence leads to greater computational complexity. In this paper, an efficient algorithm has been proposed for the minimization of the number of coefficients of standard Raised Cosine (RC) pulse-shaping filter of different lengths, without affecting its performance to a great extent. The performance of the designed filter has been studied in terms of its impulse response as well as magnitude response. The designed FIR filter has also been used as a pulse-shaping filter in a Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) modulated system and its performance has been studied in terms of the system Bit Error Rate (BER) value. From the simulation results it has been established that the newly proposed filter provides a significant reduction in the number of tap coefficients without much degradation in its performance.

In this paper, we present an improved version of the delay-range-dependent stability criterion reported recently (in Automatica) for a class of linear systems with interval time-delay. The proposed delay-dependent stability analysis, using the same Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, reduces the conservatism in the improved version of the stability criterion by tightly bounding the time-derivative of the functional using minimal number of slack matrix variables. Furthermore, we have theoretically established the effectiveness of the proposed analysis in reducing the conservatism of the stability criterion in the improved version, and have demonstrated the same using standard numerical examples.

This paper describes how shrubs have been used as transmitting and receiving RF antennas. The variations of transmitting and receiving characteristics with moist and dry conditions have been studied extensively. It has been found out that the two sets of observations differ by 5–7dB. Modulated wave transmissions and receptions have been studied as well. The behaviour of such antennas are found similar to capacitive loaded T dipole antennas as the Antenna Factor in both the cases are comparable by around 10 dB. Finally it is found that mobile phone receptions are possible with a good performance.

In this paper wavelet transform is used to determine the state and trajectory sensitivity of homogeneous and non-homogeneous systems. The differential-algebraic equation describing a system is converted via wavelet transform to an algebraic generalized Lyapunov equation which is solved for the coefficients of the state variables in terms of Haar basis. Further, problems of trajectory sensitivity analysis for singular as well as nonsingular systems have also been explored using the same orthogonal basis. Finally, using Kronecker product method, a generalized program is developed to determine the state and sensitivity for any number of basis function in Haar domain.
