In this work, ray based simulation approach has been used for estimating the performance of WSN with MIMO and SISO techniques. The ray based simulation should produce more accurate results than model based simulation approach because it is more close to real life environment. In addition to simulation, Markov model based analytical approach has also been adopted. The transition probabilities among various states of the Markov model has been evaluated using the data produced by the ray trace simulator. It is also giving better performance as compared to Rayleigh fading channel based Markov models approach. LEACH clustering protocol has been used with a slight modification in terms of selecting secondary cluster head. Alamouti space-time code has been used with V-MIMO and significant improvement in the overall life time has been observed as compared to SISO WSN.

In this paper, the impact on nodal price determination of real and reactive power considering different reactive power price cost calculation methods for generator reactive power has been presented. The impact of FACTS controllers has also been considered taking their cost function into account. The comparison of fuel costs, reactive power cost, and cost of FACTS devices, and their impact on nodal price determination has been presented for different cases of reactive power cost models. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been tested on IEEE 24-bus Reliability Test System (RTS).

In this article, we have proposed an interactive image retrieval scheme using MPEG-7 visual features, Neural Network (NN)-based pre-classifier and fuzzy based feature evaluation scheme. The performance of the existing image retrieval systems is generally limited due to semantic gap, resulted due to the discrepancies between the computed low-level features and user's conception of an image. Partitioning the database by a NN-based pre-classifier, and using a fuzzy based feature evaluation scheme, the performance of the proposed scheme has been found to improved drastically by reducing the retrieval time and increasing the accuracy.

This paper presents a new control strategy for real and reactive power control of three-level multipulse voltage source converter based High Voltage DC (HVDC) transmission system operating at Fundamental Frequency Switching (FFS). A three-level voltage source converter replaces the conventional two-level VSC and it is designed for the real and reactive power control is all four quadrants operation. A new control method is developed for achieving the reactive power control by varying the pulse width and by keeping the dc link voltage constant. The steady state and dynamic performances of HVDC system interconnecting two different frequencies network are demonstrated for active and reactive powers control. Total numbers of transformers used in the system are reduced in comparison to two level VSCs. The performance of the HVDC system is also improved in terms of reduced harmonics level even at fundamental frequency switching.

Cooperative relaying was introduced to make use of the broadcast nature of the wireless channel, which provides spatial diversity to combat multi-path fading. Multiple antennas can be installed on infrastructure based fixed relays, which improve the system performance. Relay can process the signal received through multiple antennas with the help of maximum ratio combining (MRC) or selection combining (SC). MRC is an optimal combiner which fully exploits the spatial diversity at cost of higher complexity. SC is less complex, at the same time it cannot fully exploit the spatial diversity. Generalized selection combining (GSC) bridges the gap between these two schemes (MRC and SC), which adaptively combines the received signals from multiple antennas. In this paper, we investigate the performance of multi-antenna relay with GSC. The effect of relay placement in various path-loss condition is also studied.

The detection of fine feature from an image is often challenging. Generally, the smoothing filters used for the purpose are inadequate for such applications with the exception of bilateral and mean shift filter. A new smoothing filter termed Gaussian Maxima Filter(GMF), developed and presented here shows better performance in preserving fine features even for relatively large window size. This paper also presents necessary analysis along with experimental results obtained from GMF.

Scan chain design is a popular design-for-test technique for testing of sequential circuits. Significant amount of power is consumed during loading and unloading of scan chains due to weighted transitions. As the power consumption in the test mode is quite high compared to normal circuit operation, the test power has become the prime concern for current research. Scan chain reordering is widely used method to reduce test power. In this paper, a Hamming distance based distributed reordering for loading and unloading scan chain vector is proposed. This method focuses on how and where weighted transitions occur. In current scenario of VLSI the manufacturing cost and area of transistor is no longer a big issue for current VLSI world. In this context, the proposed method shows promising results in reduction of test power at a cost of area. The experimental results for widely sited ISCAS'89 benchmark circuits are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Subthreshold circuits are an ideal choice for ultra low power, moderate throughput applications. In subthreshold region to meet the ultra-low power requirement of energy constrained devices, supply voltage less than the threshold voltage is applied. At same frequency, subthreshold circuits show orders of magnitude power saving over superthreshold circuits. In subthreshold operating region, minute leakage current is use as switching current but this limit the performance of logic gate. Primary goal while designing the subthreshold circuit is to increase the speed. Carbon Nano Tube Field Effect Transistors (CNFETs) is one of the most promising devices among emerging technologies. Most of the fundamental limitations of traditional MOSFETs are overcome in CNFETs. This paper investigates the performance analysis of subthreshold circuits and shown improvement in speed of logic gates using CNFETs. This paper primarily investigates the characteristics of CNFETs in subthreshold region. Improvement in performance of FO4, 1-bit full adder and 2:1 multiplexer is observed using CNFET over Si-MOSFET in subthreshold. This paper propose that reducing the gate oxide thickness of CNFET increases drive current and hence speeds with almost same amount of power dissipation.
