This paper explores the nonlinear phenomena like bifurcation and chaos that occur in a phase-controlled rectifier-fed dc drive. It has been shown that depending on the parameters, motor armature current may exhibit several types of evolution in continuous time and so different types of borderline trajectories exist in such system which lead to border collision bifurcation in many cases. These borderlines have been defined and explained.

In this paper, conventional control method has been developed for the design of Integral controller gain, applied to automatic generation control (AGC) in three-area hybrid power system after deregulation. The conventional three-area AGC system is modified to take into account the effect of bilateral contracts on the dynamics of automatic generation control. A three area deregulated power system with each area containing two Gencos and Discos with hybrid turbines have been considered for application. After deregulation, to describe bilateral contract for three-area AGC, Disco participation matrix has been considered. The performance of system is studied for different bilateral contracts cases.

Compressive sensing (CS) is the technique for acquiring and reconstructing a signal utilizing the apriori knowledge that it is sparse in a certain domain. This paper investigates the application of this technique to radar imaging. Present radar systems operate on high bandwidths and demands high sample rates following the Nyquist-Shannon theorem. Compressive Sensing can prove to be a good alternative to reduce data handling, complexity, weight, power demands and costs of the existing radar systems. There are two major novelties in this work. First of all we have used Dantzig selector based CS which gives better result when applied on radar images than that using the conventional l1-norm based CS. Secondly, we also show that Dantzig selector based CS supresses speckle noise in radar images. We demonstrate the results on both simulated and real radar images.

In this research work, the effect of area on dielectric strength was investigated for different polymer films. Four electrodes of different diameters were used in the range of 12.5–50 mm. Materials of various thickness used for these investigations were aramid paper (Nomex®), polyimide film (Kapton®), Mylar® polyester film, PTFE, Nomex-Mica, and Nomex-polyester-Nomex composites. The breakdown strength of these high temperature dielectric materials was investigated by using the two-parameter Weibull distribution. It was noticed that the lower thickness films are more susceptible to the mechanical damage during handling process, thus increasing the chances of having lower breakdown strength.

Two single layer single feed small shorted microstrip antennas with air dielectric (εr = 1.001) substrate are presented. At first characteristics of a single probe fed square microstrip antenna incorporating a shorting post of radius 0.6mm at four different positions are studied. After connecting a shorting post about 81% reduction in resonant frequency is achieved. Another circular patch antenna with shorting post of radius 0.6mm at four different positions is also studied. After connecting the shorting post about 48% reduction in resonant frequency is achieved. The maximum gain, return loss and radiation patterns of the shorted square and circular microstrip antennas at different shorting post positions are also shown.

Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) based on-chip resonators offer great potential for sensing and high frequency signal processing applications due to their exceptional features like small size, large frequency-quality factor product, integrability with CMOS ICs, low power consumption etc. In this work, micromachined polysilicon disk resonators exhibiting radial-contour mode vibrations have been designed, modeled and simulated. These resonators are optimized for a low motional resistance and hence, are ideal for use in radio frequency (RF) communication circuits like reference oscillators, mixers, filters etc. The design presented here is meant for achieving resonance frequencies of 107 MHz, 289 MHz and 453 MHz in the first three modes of vibration respectively. A low-noise CMOS oscillator circuit which can utilize this MEMS resonator instead of the traditional bulky off-chip quartz crystal resonators has also been proposed.

In this paper, we propose a framework for analyzing downlink performance of cellular CDMA network without considering retransmission protocol in MAC layer. More specifically, we develop a simulation testbed for analyzing broadcast performance of WCDMA network in presence of both PHY layer and application layer forward error correction (FEC) codes only. In physical layer, low density parity check (LDPC) code is considered. Raptor code is considered as application layer FEC. Packet data performance is estimated in terms of file delivery failure probability in an erasure channel. Tradeoff between Raptor code and LDPC code is also shown.

The objective of this paper is to estimate the spectral content of coding and non-coding segments of DNA sequence by Parametric method. An attempt has been made so that by analyzing this estimated spectral content, the hidden internal properties of the DNA sequence can be brought into light in order to identify coding regions from non-coding ones. In this approach the DNA sequence from various Homo Sapien genes have been identified for sample test and assigned numerical values based on strong-weak hydrogen bonding of nucleotides. DSP analysis of DNA sequences by Parametric Spectral Estimation methods show satisfactory results.

The use of computer vision based approach has started to bring the intelligence to many of the modern machineries. Such kind of high performance image processing systems can be efficiently built using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). This paper presents the design and implementation of FPGA based Computer Vision System for offset error computation of a new proposed registration mark pattern in 4-color web offset printing machines. The color printing quality of offset machine degrades due to a genuine problem of registration error caused by improper alignment of the prints from each process color section. This system can be used in an automated registration control system for web printing press that will control the position of each of CMYK cylinders depending on offset error calculated which will improve printing quality.
