It is reported about the plantar LRR. This modification of the malleolar LRR distinguishes venous healthy from venous patients like the malleolar procedure. By the plantar procedure LRR becomes possible in cases where malleolar LRR is not performable like in larger leg ulcers and lymphedemas. The evaluation of plantar LRR has to regard changed normal values i.e. a prolonged refilling time and an increased delta R.

Starting from 12 index patients with familial benign chronic pemphigus from 11 kindreds, systematic kindred examinations were carried out with 182 relatives. 11 pedigrees were established. In this process 6 patients out of 3 kindreds were identified additionally. 10 genotypic carriers of the disease were found of 30 examined relatives by a newly developed UV-provocation test. An autosomal-dominant hereditary pattern was proven for sure and with high probability, respectively, in 10 out of 11 kindreds by formal genetic genealogy-examinations. There was an incomplete penetrance in 3 kindreds. A sex-determined heredity of disease can be excluded. There was no association between familial benign chronic pemphigus and HLA-A, B, C-system.

HbA2 and HbF were studied in 91 patients with different forms of psoriasis: 29 with psoriasis vulgaris placata (restricted forms); 31 with psoriasis generalisata and erythroderma psoriaticum; 21 with psoriatic arthritis; 10 with psoriasis pustulosa. Statistically significant increase of HbA2 was established in patients with psoriasis vulgaris placata (restricted forms) as well in patients with psoriatic arthritis. HbF is statistically significant increased in all forms of psoriasis. The authors suggest, that there is probably in psoriasis a disturbance in the synthesis of the globine chains, which is genetically dependent.

The concentration of type III collagen aminopropeptide and the activity of lysosomal beta-galactosidase were determined in the serum of patients with progressive sclerosis (PS), silicosis and PS associated with silicosis. In PS-patients, the serum levels of both parameters were significantly increased with a high correlation to the stage of the disease and to each other. In patients with silicosis normal serum concentrations of both parameters were found, whereas in all patients suffering from silicosis and PS significantly elevated serum levels were detectable, independent of the stage of PS. Both parameters can also be used as markers of therapy (e.g. with D-penicillamine) and as early indicators for the development of PS in patients with silicosis.

Lipophilic propionibacterium acnes stores large amounts of porphyrins. This peculiarity can be used for photodynamic destruction of propionibacteria. After repeated irradiations with a blue light-type high pressure lamp (Narva NC 1000-64) both acne and seborrhoea was improved markedly (10 irradiations, each for 10 minutes, cumulative light dose 325 J/cm2). Also porphyrin content inside acne follicles dropped. Serial irradiations with short range visible light (400 to 420 nm) are recommended for acne treatment during the light-poor season of the year.

A PUVA treatment of the recipients of murine tail skin grafts led to a significant prolongation of transplant survival. A possible mechanism of the systemic immunomodulatory effects of ultraviolet light in the organism is the transformation of urocanic acid in the skin from its trans- to the cis-isomer, which acts as a mediator on the immune system. A treatment of graft recipients with cis-, but not trans-urocanic acid also prolonged graft survival. The rejection of secondary grafts and the humoral immune response of mice to sheep erythrocytes were not influenced by cis-urocanic acid. These results implicate that cis-urocanic acid may be get use in clinical organ transplantation and dermatology.

Using mononuclear cells (MNC) of patients suffering from psoriasis for production of colony-stimulating factors (CSF) an abnormal colony formation in bone marrow of healthy volunteers was detected (colony-forming assay): Number of colonies per 10(5) bone marrow cells after cultivation with 10(6) MNC of patients suffering from psoriasis vulgaris: 65 +/- 14 (n = 8); psoriasis arthropathica: 63 +/- 11 (n = 8). Control values (10(5) bone marrow cells plus 10(6) MNC of healthy donors): 116 +/- 23 (n = 10). Statistical differences: psoriasis vulgaris: p less than 0.001; psoriasis arthropathica: p less than 0.001. The mechanisms responsible for these abnormalities in hematopoiesis are still unknown. They may be of pathogenic significance in psoriasis.

Origin and function of IgA in the psoriatic skin are unknown. Including a monoclonal antibody against the secretory component (SC) of the secretory IgA (SIga), we have tried to characterize the IgA in psoriasis. With help of a polyclonal antiserum we found depots of IgA in the skin in 69% of all investigated patients. There was a correlation between the degree of akanthosis and the amount of intraepidermal IgA. In the serum of the psoriasis total IgA was significant increased, but never we found SC-bound SIgA in the skin or elevated levels in serum of patients.
