[Great potential, little substance : Overview of quality and quantity of urological apps in the German app store]. 【

Background: The range of medical apps is broad and diverse. The previous evaluations are inconsistent and limited to the respective areas of application.

Objectives: The main objective of this work is to comprehensively present, organize, and evaluate the current range of urological apps with the help of a semi-automatic retrospective app store analysis (SARASA).

Methods: Application of an adaptable method based on filter processes according to predefined criteria by means of SARASA to characterize urological apps from various subject areas in the Apple App Store with subsequent manual filtering and evaluation.

Results: From the original list of 34,830 apps in the "Medicine" category of the Apple App Store on 27 September 2021, 3556 apps remained after apps without a German-language store description were removed. 43 subject-specific apps remained for further analysis and description. The number of reviews, rating, topicality, urological issues, technical support and richness of content were taken into account. The two most relevant apps for each topic are presented in detail.

Conclusion: SARASA offers an easy-to-use method for applying filter processes to identify apps in app stores that meet predefined, formal criteria. The highest number of apps can be classified in categories of patient information and further education and training. An app officially listed by the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Products (BfArM) in the sense of a digital health application (DiGA), the costs of which are reimbursed by the health insurance companies, is available for urology in only one single case. The authors see great potential for future developments in this regard.

[Epithelioid angiomyolipoma of the kidney after successfully treated malignant melanoma]. 【

Background: Therapy of epitheloid angiomyolipomas (eAML) may be challenging, since unlike classical angiomyolipomas this rare subclass of benign mesenchymal angiomyolipomas may present with lymph node metastases, local recurrent disease, and/or systemic metastatic disease in up to 30% of cases.

Objectives: We report here for the first time in Germany a case of eAML after successful treatment of malignant melanoma.

Materials and methods: Clinical and histological findings as well as results of the genetic analysis of the angiomyolipoma are presented.

Results: A somatic, truncating mutation of the TSC2 gene was found in the angiomyolipoma.

Conclusion: The relationship to histologically similar tumor entities are presented and therapeutic options based on the genetic classification are discussed.

[Opportunities and risks of telemedicine in urology]. [

Use of telemedicine continues to increase in Germany. The legal framework has been expedited by several laws, such as the Appointment Service and Supply Act (TSVG), Digital Care Act (DVG), Patient Data Protection Act (PDSG) and Hospital Future Act (KHZG). The first digital health applications (DiGAs) that can be prescribed by doctors and will be reimbursed by medical insurance have entered the market and many more will follow, including urological applications. Video consultations have seen a remarkable increase driven by the Corona pandemic and will continue to be fully implemented in daily work. Electronic patient records will also be widely available within the next few years and will have a positive influence on efficiency in health care, as all steps in the treatment process will be digitalized. This will be supported by the e‑prescription and customer-friendly pathways of distribution of their medications. The most important challenges that hopefully do not inhibit the very much needed progress in the digitalization of healthcare are data protection and the compatibility between systems. Driven by the advances in digital healthcare and urology, urologists will experience a significant gain of efficiency in daily work.
