The paper uncovers the results of a query conducted in terminological resources related to the hare’s characteristics, and a subsequent comparison of achieved findings. The approach is semantically-oriented and consists of qualitatively and quantitatively processed Polish and Russian data. The emphasis is laid on a single species – the hare. To narrow down the size of the data submitted to analysis, nouns and adjectives describing qualitative characteristics of the hare have been given priority. Thus, emphasis is laid on common hare-denoting nouns. Additional areas of interest extend over terms describing its age, sex, as well as its physical and mental features. The corpus comprises lexical units drawn from 19th and 20th-century dictionaries of hunting lexis. It extends over present-day terms, documented on web pages attended by hunters. The present investigation has benefited greatly from oral interviews and surveys carried out among Polish and Russian hunters coming from a variety of regions.

The article presents the results of research on the occurrence of Russian and Ukrainian languages on the Polish Podhale in the end of the second decade of the 21st century. The research was carried out in the form of a questionnaire and an interview. Their participants were immigrants from Ukraine who are currently in Nowy Targ and the Tatry counties.

This text is focusing on the issue of war in Afghanistan from 1979–1989 and its realities. The lexicon associated with everyday life of Afghanistan civilians and Soviet soldiers was analyzed. Observations made has led us to the conclusion that additional information appears more often in the translated text, which makes it much more transparent for the final recipient. This fact was confirmed by the statistical data: only one footnote can be found in the Polish text, and 173 in the Russian text.

This article attempts to characterize artistic creativity of Ivan Vyrypayev – a contemporary Russian playwright, director, actor and performer. The features that distinguish not only his dramaturgical output but, above all, his working in the artistic area are syncretism and eclecticism. The author of Delhi Dance is a versatile artist – he successfully performs as an actor in the theatrical project Oxygen, „sings” in his group Sachar (Sugar), writes intentionally „not funny” anecdotes in Comedy, presents a paradocumentary drama UFO. As well as in his other projects – theatre (Mahamaya electronic devices, Interview S-FBP 4408) and films (Euphoria, Oxygen, Salvation), Vyrypaev addresses fundamental issues concerning love, freedom, happiness, sense of life and interpersonal communication.

The aim of the paper is to present Polish-Ukrainian contacts in the south-eastern borderlands, language influences resulting from the direct neighbourhood of Poles and Ukrainians. In modern Ukrainian, you can find a number of polonisms, very often worded or changed word-forming. There are many more of them in the Ukrainian dialects, where the Polish population for centuries has been adjacent to the Ukrainian, especially on the borderland of the country. The observations I will present are the result of many years of research conducted in 2012–2017. The subject of the discussion are Polish linguistic influences on the Ukrainian dialect in terms of vocabulary. Dialectological research covered the local Ukrainian community of the village of Wolica (1040 people) and Trzcieniec (573 people) in the Mosciski region, where Ukrainians now constitute the majority, because almost 85% of the population. The remaining 15% is the Polish population, which at the beginning of the 21st century accounted for almost 30% of the inhabitants of these villages. The lexical borrowings are, first of all, words referring to everyday life, realities of everyday reality, and mainly they refer to the home, household, economic tools or names related to kitchen utensils, names of food. This is a situation that shows how strictly ethnography connects with dialectology; After all, folk objects reproduce the material culture, in their names they bring back the history, the mentality of the people who created them and use them.

The subject of the article is a dialogue between two semiotic systems: language and music in vocal-instrumental works. Dialogue in the described sphere takes place on several levels. It is a dialogue between the artist and the viewer, but also a dialogue between the poetic text and the musical score. Thanks to the use of appropriate composing techniques, specific tone, tempo, meter, instrumentation, harmony, the word receives a new meaning. Music can separate keywords in the text, move accents to specific verbal signs. Purely instrumental fragments build mood, affect emotions. The form of dialogue in the vocal-instrumental piece is the use of a concerting technique, where the sound of the instrument interacts with a human voice or defies it.

Sergey Rafalsky is recognised as a representative of the First Wave of Russian Emigration, he was also a member of literary association „Skit”. The association was a small group of Russian poets who were writing in Prague in 1922–1940. Rafalsky’s sonnets Flight, Vision, In a bistro, Duel and Exile constitute the cycle entitled Poems on the topic. They form a coherent poetic utterance, concentrating on the theme of mythological, historical and legendary characters. In the sonnet cycle the poet deals with alienation, exile, exclusion from own community, individual’s involvement in the historical processes and with search for the meaning of life in the new social and political settings.

The paper deals with the response of Michał Fedorowski to Rostafinski’s questionnaire, published at the end of the 19th century. The text (published in the journal „Etnobiologia Polska” by Graniszewska, Leśniewska, Mankiewicz-Malinowska and Galera) includes all the answers provided by Fedorowski (supplemented with scientific names of plant parts – only those that were present in the attached herbarium), as well as a photograph of his signature (his name had previously been spelt as Federowski in scientific publications). The material in the collection is of extreme interest to linguists who investigate plant names of Lithuanian Rus’. The collection covers similar areas which Eliza Orzeszkowa investigated and described in Ludzie i kwiaty nad Niemnem [People and Flowers on the Neman River]. In this paper, I suggest a comparison of the plant names used in both collections, which complement each other. I also draw attention to additional aspects of the use of plants described by Fedorowski and the data which may be employed to describe features of the Polish language used at that time.

The article presents the description of the work of Yaroslava Pulinovich, the representative of the young generation of contemporary Russian dramaturgy. The plays of the Russian playwright are interpreted in the context of the involvement of drama and theatre in social issues. Using the concept of political quality of art of Jacques Rancière, according to which art aims to discuss social problems, the author of the article attempts to show that the work of Pulinovich falls into the definition of engaged art that involves full participation in the social life and involves the artist and the viewer in the problems of the surrounding reality. The research material that has been used is the majority of the playwright’s works, both her wellknown works such as Natasha’s dream, Zhanna or Eliza’s Land, as well as lesser-known works (Chemistry teacher, He’s gone without a word and other).

The article describes texts from two Russian daily newspapers Kommersant and Rossiyskaya Gazeta about the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, especially names of opponents and enemies. The analyzed material covers the beginning of the conflict - April 2014, when the positions of the parties and the international community are just being formed. There is an additional element in the scheme of the communicative process in media. In Rossiyskaya Gazeta it is state. The newspaper must implement its goals and protects its interests. There are models of messages, which should realize the political goals of the state. The texts only fit into models, in which the main idea is constant. The communication has instrumental function.
