The published and unpublished scientific and journalistic works on the history of the World War II by the Odessa historian S. I.-Ya. Borovoy are considered in the article. An attempt was made to objectively analyze the data of scientific works, their significance for studying the history of the World War II, to identify positive and negative sides in them in the context of the development of Soviet historical science, to understand their historiographic and methodological value, influence on modern historical science and the current perception of the events of the World War II. The result of the active participation of S. I.-Ya. Borovoy in the scientific and organizational work on the study of the history of the World War II was the publication of his works, which were defined as a task of national importance, as evidenced by the fact that the work of the scientist was carried out on the basis of a special government decision to create Commissions on the history of the Great Patriotic War at the union, republican, regional and district levels with the support of the relevant levels of the Communist Party, which determined their activities political and ideological orientation. His first articles were written on the basis of collected materials, documents, testimonies of eyewitnesses and participants in the events. The content of these articles was aimed at raising the mass consciousness of society, which contributed to the manifestation of the patriotic spirit in the course of a fierce confrontation, the willingness to endure everyday hardships in order to protect the country, to sacrifice personal interests in the name of preserving and strengthening statehood. Particular attention was paid to the heroic struggle of the Soviet people at the front, in the ranks of the partisan movement, and selfless labor in the rear. The decisive importance of the activities of the Communist Party as a leading, inspiring force was constantly emphasized, which led to the formation of the fundamental ideological orientation of the Soviet era. The vices of ideological content in the works of S. I.-Ya. Borovoy were caused by the political situation that took place in the life of Soviet society, in particular in the studies of historians.
这是s.i.a积极参与的结果。

Summary In connection with the pandemic, which caused the transition of educational activities to distance learning in front of the library, there was a need to review the requirements for information (resource) support for readers. The gradual transition from the usual information and library services to the process management of information and communication resources increases the efficiency of library management as a unit of the academy, focusing on consumers and their satisfaction. For its implementation in the own activity the library offers a list of modern management tools based on the quality management system: Developed model, policy, strategic goal and mission of the library, strategic development plan, drawn up a scheme of the main stages of achieving compliance with ISO 9001, made PDCA 3 cycle of continuous improvement of the quality of information and bibliographic services (https://odaba.edu.ua/library/quality-management-system). Analyzed strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and potential obstacles in the quality provision of electronic services On the basis of the Gantt chart the step-by-step use of the object-oriented approach to remote service of readers is designed and put into operation. According to the protocols of quality of results of service by library, the system of advanced training of employees is adjusted. Thus, we can conclude that the constant development, updating of existing skills and abilities of library staff in combination with the right project-oriented approach to work is becoming a traditional the practice of improving the quality of information and digital service to readers.

The article highlights general trends and prospects for further development of information and analytical activities of libraries of higher education institutions. Some indicators of the work of University libraries are analyzed on the basis of annual statistical and written reports. Emphasis is made on integration projects of University libraries, which provide an opportunity to supplement information for their users, creating so-called cooperative projects both at the regional, national and international levels. The results of this activity are displayed on websites of University libraries, which have ease of navigation, efficiency of updating and filling with information resources. The work of the library community has also undergone transformations making the emphasis on readers with remote access (over the past events, namely quarantine restrictions and war). Filling the institute repositories, consisting of qualifying and dissertation works as well as articles, monographs, textbooks, etc. is progress; The popularization of own funds is also transferred to the virtual forms (exhibition activity, exhibiting results of activities to public, that is indexes, various databases, monographs, etc.). All these changes are reflected in the news both on own webpages of University libraries and social networks, as well as by sending information to all departments of the University. The results of the article can be useful to the heads of libraries and departments for further planning of their activities, distinguishing between strengths and weaknesses of their logistics and the ability to provide quality information services. Thus, the library is a constantly updating structure of the University, which keeps pace with the times, adapts to different needs of scientific community, whose staff not only does not lose their professionalism, but also constantly improves it by participating in various activities.

The purpose of this article is to study how individuals who did not work in universities or academies, were teachers of secondary educational institutions, officials, and public figures took part in the activities of the Odesa Bibliographic Society. In the history of OBS, we can distinguish the following stages: 1) 1911–1914 – the stage of stability, prosperity; 2) 1914–1917 – the stage in the conditions of the first World War, which had a significant impact on the subject, personnel, etc.; 3) 1917–1919 – the period of crisis in the conditions of revolutionary events, when OBS increasingly operated not because of, but in spite of circumstances; 4) 1920–1923 – the period of adaptation to new conditions communist reality, where OBS acted as a bearer of previous traditions. In the end, this was led to the liquidation of the society in its original form, but, at the same time, in fact, the transformation into a Ukrainian bibliographic society, which largely continued the traditions of the “old”. During all these stages, non-academic individuals played an important role in the development of OBS. They participated in all aspects of the OBS’s activities, in particular, replenishing the society’s library, reading reports, and so on. Among them, a large and active group consisted of women, which was a unique phenomenon for the culture of Odessa. They were high school teachers, representatives of the city’s elite. A fairly active role in the life of society, in addition to Odesa members, was played by those who were outside of Odessa. Most often, such persons did not take an active part in societies. But MBT managed to break this trend, as evidenced by the examples of Londoner V. S. Isakovich, Petersburgers O. S. Partsevsky, O. Z. Popelnitsky, M. G. Martynov, a citizen of Riga V. E. Cheshikhin. For the trends of the beginning twentieth century, it is significant that exactly the involvement of non-academic members led to the transformation of OBS into one of the most prominent centers of popularization of Ukrainian culture in Odessa, that was most clearly reflected in the reports of L. O. Chizhikov, S. P. Shelukhin, N. M. Lazurskaya, O. O. Smirnitsky, A. P. Milskaya and others. Thus, we have an example of successful activity of a scientific society, primarily due to the expansion of its social base and the involvement of the public. Popularization of science, blurring the line between “heavy” science for science and public science is quite modern, relevant trend that has both pros and cons. Historical experience should contribute to the development of the most successful approaches.
S. Partsevsky、O. Z. Popelnitsky、M. O. Chizhikov, S. P. Shelukhin, N. M. Lazurskaya, O. O. Smirnitsky, A. P. Milskaya等人的报告中得到了最清楚的反映。

The publication presents information about rarities from the collection of prominent Ukrainian and French artist, collector and bibliophile Serge Lifar (1905–1986) in the fund of the Department of early printed and rare books of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (VNLU). Dancer, choreographer, artist S. Lifar has been collecting personal documents, posters, cultural objects, books, various souvenirs, etc. for decades. He wanted to donate items from his personal collection as a gift to his hometown of Kyiv. In the 1990s and 2000s, parts of his collections and personal belongings were transferred to several Kyiv institutions. Rarities from his book collection came to the VNLU as part of the collection of Baron Eduard Falz-Fein, who bought part of his library at auction in Monte Carlo and donated it to the VNLU in 1981. S. Lifar’s books in the collection of E. Falz-Fein are singled out with the help of his proprietary marks: signets, paper stickers, autographs, gift inscriptions, etc. They date from the 17th – early 20th c. Among them predominate Russian-language editions of the 18th‑19th c. Widely represented editions of works by Russian and Ukrainian writers: O. Pushkin, V. Zhukovsky, A. Fet, M. Lermontov, I. Krylov, G. Derzhavin, M. Gogol, P. Kulish, and others. S. Rarities from his book collection came to the VNLU as part of the collection of Baron Eduard Falz-Fein, who bought part of his library at auction in Monte Carlo and donated it to the VNLU in 1981.\u0000S. S. Lifar also collected various artistic lithographic albums, large-format editions with portraits, drawings, maps, etc. Essays on Russian imperial history, geography, descriptions of places, and collections of decrees are also contained in the collection. The church theme is represented by several copies of old prints in different languages and fonts. Cyrillic liturgical editions are also available in the collection. Several editions of the Bible in Old Slavonic and Dutch occupy a proper place in the collection.\u0000The publication presents the features of individual copies of the collection. It is concluded that the book collection of S. Lifar is able to inform the inquisitive reader about new facets of the personality of its former owner. Scattered across various institutions and even countries, it is still waiting for its researchers.\u0000The information is supplemented by a list with a brief descriptions and current shelf numbers.

One of the effective levers in solving environmental and socio-economic problems of modern Ukraine is educational work in the field of ecology, raising the level of environmental education and the formation of environmental awareness and culture. Libraries play an important role in the system of public institutions that ensure the right of citizens to environmental information. The availability of libraries and appropriate information resources, the introduction of modern technologies as well as qualified personnel allow them to become an irreplaceable partner of society and the state in the field of environmental education. An important component of environmental education of Odesa National Scientific Library is the formation of thematic resources (traditional and electronic) and ensuring free access to them for users. The library provides information support to the educational process and research activity of students, graduates, researchers of higher educational institutions of the country. It also actively works in the direction of knowledge spreading on environmental protection; develops and improves new forms of cooperation with state and public environmental organizations; introduces innovative forms of individual and mass work on environmental education. One of the striking innovative projects, implemented by the library, is the project «University of Environmental Knowledge». During 10 years of project activity (2001‑2011) 106 meetings of the University were organized and held, as well as a number of thematic forums, scientific conferences, round tables, publishing projects, exhibitions of new literature, thematic reviews on ecology and more. The events were attended by more than 12 thousand visitors – students, graduates, professionals working in the field of ecology, members of environmental NGOs, people who are not indifferent to environmental issues. This strengthened the ability of ONSL to act as a powerful information center on environmental issues and made ONSL one of the important parts in solving environmental problems in Odesa Region and Southern Ukraine.
