The article is devoted to the publications of a famous Ukrainian philosopher, humanist, poet, teacher and musician Grigory Savvich Skovoroda (1722–1794) from the collections of the Scientific Library of the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University. The author aims to analyze a relatively small collection of editions of G. S. Skovoroda’s works as well as studies on his philosophical and literary heritage in rare editions of the 19th – 1st third of the 20th century which are stored in the university library. Ownership marks on copies of books make it possible to trace how the interest in the oeuvre of the great philosopher aroused in a particular university in southern Ukraine. Whereas at the beginning of the 19th century the philosopher’s works were published mainly in periodicals, in the second half of the 19th century separate editions of G. S. Skovoroda’s writings appeared, while in the late 19th – early 20th centuries the collected works of the great humanist were published. Ownership marks on copies of publications indicate that the oeuvre of the great Ukrainian wandering philosopher G. S. Skovoroda resonated at different times. The scale of the personality of G. S. Skovoroda was also of great importance for representatives of various strata of the Odessa intelligentsia: free-masons (S. M. Telesnitsky) and Orthodox priests (M. K. Pavlovsky), University professors (I. A. Linnichenko) and members of scientific and bibliophile societies (B. V. Yurkevsky and L. A. Chizhikov respectively) etc. – they all looked for answers to key questions of their time in G. S. Skovoroda’s heritage. Ownership marks on copies of books from the University library illustrate the tragic fate of many Ukrainian authors who studied the oeuvre of the great philosopher. Library stamps on books can help display the Soviet censorship policy in library institutions. The questions raised need additional research which can be based on sufficient materials provided by valuable and diverse stocks of the university library. The article is published in the year of the 300th anniversary of the birth of G. S. Skovoroda.
V. Yurkevsky和L. A. Chizhikov)等等——他们都在g.s.

Forming, accumulating, as well as bookkeeping of documentary resources is one of the traditional functions of a modern library. Library book collections are of exceptional importance for the formation of the national cultural heritage of the state. The Book Exchange Fund (hereinafter – BEF) of the Scientific Library of the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University is a part of its Exchange and Reserve Fund. The department is intended for exchange, redistribution, free transfer of documents to libraries and other institutions. BEFs in libraries acquired a legal status in 1959 when a special resolution of the Soviet government was adopted. The documents began to be redistributed through an Exchange and Reserve Fund, which contributed to the preservation of non-core and duplicate editions in some libraries that could be in demand in other libraries. The mechanism for using documents that are in library exchange funds is defined by The procedure for using documents through exchange library funds. In 1947, a BEF for monographic literature was arranged while a BEF for periodicals was allocated. Nowadays the BEF consists mainly of duplicate editions of the University. These are publications highlighting the history of Odesa National University, the works of the teaching staff of the Humanities and Natural Sciences faculties, as well as publications prepared by the Scientific Library staff. The activities of the Department of Rare books are aimed at researching private collections of the Library. Special attention is paid to the research of Ukrainian books from the stackss of the Scientific Library. Employees of the Information and Bibliographic Department publish bibliographic indexes, both thematic and devoted to personalities. It is worth mentioning that the Scientific library exchanges specialized periodicals with partner libraries. The Library has 17 permanent book exchange partners, namely the higher educational institutions, research institutes, the National V. I. Vernadskyi Library of Ukraine. Since 2020 alone, the Library has received through book exchange 860 copies of books and periodicals and sent to its partner libraries 694 copies of current professional University periodicals. This method of periodicals distribution contributes to the popularization of the academic achievements of scientists of the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University in the professional community. The content of the BEF is disclosed with the help of a reference apparatus, that is card catalogues and non-annotated bibliographic lists of books and periodicals, posted on the website of the University Library in the section Exchange and Reserve Fund (Book Exchange Fund). The study of monuments of ancient culture in the territory of southern Ukraine began at the end of the 18th century, and became regular at the end of the 19th century. In addition to historical and archaeological descriptions, maps and plans of the remains of ancient northern Black Sea cities were created. Subsequently, attempts were made to collect archaeological materials, as well as intelligence on the history of the Bosporus kingdom and Olbia. From the end of the XIX century. systematic excavations of the largest ancient city-states and their necropolises on the territory of Ukraine – Berezan and Olbia, Chersonesus, mounds of the Bosporan kingdom, etc. Defensive structures, residential quarters, thermal baths (baths) and a mint in Chersonesos, dozens of monumental burial structures were opened. The study of the Northern Black Sea region does not stop, the excavations of new places, which hide the secrets of history that have not yet been revealed, continue. Interesting research materials of the Northern Black Sea region are stored in the Scientific Library of the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University. (ONU) in the A. G. Gotalov-Gotlib fund. There are book editions and publications of the works of famous historians and archaeologists dedicated to the Northern Black Sea region. The purpose of this article is to study the scientific and public work of the famous Odesa historian O. V. Boldyrev in the 1990s. His activity was studied, which was aimed at the formation of the Ukrainian model of historical memory in Odesa, the study of the history of the Ukrainian national movement. The close connection of the historian with the Оdesa I. I. Mechnikov State University. He was a graduate of the Faculty of History and a graduate student of the Department of Political Science. Historian’s high-profile works, which he published while he was a graduate student at the university, made the university known to as many people as possible as a center of free, innovative thought. The thesis of a scientist for the degree of candidate of political sciences was one of the most successful postgraduate projects of that time from the university. The scientist thought in broad international categories, sought to include domestic historical and political science in international achievements, which is certainly a task for the development of the university now. Scientific activity of O. V. Boldyrev vividly reflected the dynamism of Ukrainian history in the 1990s, the romantic and idealistic desire of the Ukrainian intelligentsia to return Ukraine to the free world after years of totalitarian «non-existence», to revive and enlighten its people and transform them into a nation. Some of the young historians no longer accepted the established conjuncture and rules and tried to reassess them, in particular, regarding established historical myths. The specificity of Odesa was not so much a sharp confrontation between the epigones of communism and nationalism, as between supporters of the «new Russian myth» and supporters of independent Ukraine (however, this did not always mean and still means their affiliation to one of the currents of Ukrainian nationalism as an ideological doctrine). One of the main tools in this process was to become historical education and science. The name O. V. Boldyrev should be included in a kind of canon of outstanding graduates of Odesa I. I. Mechnikov State University among the persons who achieved regional recognition, scientists, enthusiasts who paved new ways of knowledge. It should inspire new generations even now.

In the proposed article by Viktor Sokolov «Professional activities of a librarian in medieval Europe’s monastic libraries: characteristics, functions, peculiarities» the information concerning the activities of a librarian in Western European monastic libraries in the middle ages is analyzed and summarized. The relevance of this study is due to the need to study the specifics and development of the functional duties of monastic librarians, which have not been studied before, against the background of the formation and evolution of monastic libraries in the Early middle ages. The purpose of this article is to identify and characterize the features of the activities of librarians of monastic libraries in medieval Europe (mainly Western). The methodology of this scientific work consists in the application of both general scientific research methods (description, comparison, analogy, deduction, induction, analysis, etc.) and historical (historical-comparative, historical-typological, chronological, etc.) methods. Methods of terminological analysis, analysis of dictionary definitions, etymological and word-formation analysis, bibliographic and other research methods were also used. The article explores the main areas and areas of activity of a librarian in Western European monastic libraries, as well as some features of the development of book and library business in monasteries through the prism of the functional duties of a librarian. The content and significance of his professional activities in the dissemination of reading, education, development of book and library business are analyzed. The study made it possible to reveal the peculiarities of the interpretation of the terms that determine the activities of the librarian of Western European monastic libraries in the middle ages, in particular, the term «armarius» in modern book science and library research. The main factors and features of the formation of the meaning of the term «armarius» in the process of becoming a professional activity of monastic librarians are revealed. The scientific novelty of the work lies in expanding the understanding of the professional activities of the librarian of Western European monastic libraries in the period, mainly, the early middle ages and revealing the significance of his activities in the development of not only book and library science, but also the spiritual culture of the middle ages as a whole. The study shows that monastic librarians played an important role in organizing systematic reading among monks – both individual (including for educational purposes, in the form of obedience) and collective – using the method of reading aloud to familiarize themselves with the content of certain (predominantly theological) books. The position is confirmed that for the monastic librarian, a wide education, erudition and knowledge of books was considered an indispensable feature of his professionalism. Performing professional tasks at the proper level required

The article attempts to consider the nature of the formation of priority areas of scientific activity and spiritual formation in the «Odesa» period of the life of the religious thinker, theologian, philosopher, historian, Orthodox priest, activist of the ecumenical movement and one of the founders of the World Council of Churches. His name is H. V. Florovsky. On the basis of previously not introduced into scientific circulation historical sources located in the State Archive of the Odesa Region, Princeton University Library and a layer of published sources and scientific literature, many new facts of the biography were discovered and inaccuracies and incorrect data regarding the main events of the scientist’s life were eliminated. Both general scientific (analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction) and special historical methods became the main methods of researching the life and intellectual work of H. V. Florovsky. The historical-genetic method made it possible to recreate the creative portrait of the scientist within the chronological framework of the period under study. The historical-comparative method was used to highlight what was new, which the scientist brought to the study of humanitarian fields of knowledge. Chronological, historical-biographical methods, techniques of historiographical and source analysis were also used. The essence and role of the main components of the scientist’s personality, which later determined the success of his professional activity, were revealed. It has been proven that the family played a significant role in the formation of H. V. Florovsky’s personality. The main milestones of life and spiritual formation are presented through the prism of his studies, work and scientific activity at the Imperial Novorossiysk University. The importance of the obtained results lies in the fact that, on the basis of archival material and scientific literature, the formation of scientific priorities and scientific and pedagogical experience of a scientist, a component of ensuring the relationship of traditions and innovations in the development of humanitarian knowledge, are analyzed. It has been established that the defining topic in the comprehensive study of the «Odesa» period of H. V. Florovsky should be the further research of the scientist’s creativity against the background of the specific circumstances of his biography.

Purpose. The processes of higher education digital transformation are actively developing. As a result, there are new challenges and requirements in which the role of university libraries is significantly changed. The university library is transformed upon us, expanding its functions and creating new services. Monitoring of publication activity, network interaction and cooperation of educational institutions, implementation of scientific and educational policy of university. The library is an integral component of the university strategic development in these and other aspects. To achieve these goals, university libraries are guided and take into account world trends that will influence the libraries’ development in the coming years: Open Science, Open Education and the key role of libraries to implement these ideas; intensive development and dissemination of information technologies; that the vast majority of library users are Digital Natives and Digital Citizen [1]. Methodology. Study and research of European academic practices on the directions of changes in education in crisis situations; DECriS project results on the use of digital methods and learning resources during the Covid‑19 pandemic, with a special emphasis on open educational resources (OER); the library role as a new online learning platform. NUS Scientific Library, in these conditions, directs its activities taking into account all world trends and challenges. The creation and support of a navigation orientation system in a variety of information resources through the library website as a “single window” is very relevant in terms of quarantine and remote work. Finding. To ensure the service transition on the qualitatively new level for remote users based on modern information technologies and active consumption of information resources by users, additional modules for the library system “USH/ Library” were introduced. During the pandemic, Science library expands access to the world’s providers of scientific resources – licensed commercial databases, openaccess Internet resources, DB of scientific and technical information in order to provide the most complete information. Features of the university librarians work: knowledge of the organization of digital instruments for scientific communications; specifics of scientific work of their institutions. To do this, new services are created and mastered in the university libraries. Open access documents and data are of interest to libraries and library professionals as resources of scientific, educational and cultural importance. Due to the large-scale distribution of open access electronic resources, their quality is not always unambiguous, so it is very relevant in the activities of university libraries to prepare navigators. The actuality of theme of Viktor Sokolov’s article is due to the growing degree of scientific methodological, information-analytical, bibliographic, educational, local history activities of libraries, as well as the spread and increase in research work of book collections, which becomes the basis for sustainable development of the institution. . Research work is a mandatory and integral component of the library profession, and librarians-practitioners are full participants in the process of creating new library knowledge. The purpose of the study is to characterize the content, main types, directions of research work of libraries in Ukraine; analyze and determine the main periods, stages, trends and features of its development; to study the ways of dissemination and significance of research work of libraries in the development of librarianship and science. The methodological basis of the proposed study were both general scientific methods (analysis, analogy, deduction, induction, description, comparison, etc.) and special historical methods (historical-genetic, historical-systemic, historical-comparative, historical-typological, chronological). The scientific novelty of the study is to identify features of development, characteristics of the main stages of formation, types and directions of research work of libraries in Ukraine (mostly – leading); scientific substantiation of the place and importance of this activity in improving the efficiency of the book collection and library in general. When presenting the main material of the research, the main content of the concept of «research work of the library» is highlighted; the leading directions and types of the specified activity are characterized; identified and analyzed the main periods, stages and features of the development of research work of the country’s book collections; the periodization and the main stages of formation of research work of libraries in Ukraine on the historical background of the spread of the sphere of scientific activity in library work are substantiated. It is noted that the analysis of the historical development of research work of the leading libraries of Ukraine makes it possible to some extent to characterize the features of each stage of its formation, to reveal the specifics of its directions and trends. The article analyzes the main forms and types, main directions and areas of research in the country’s libraries. It is stated that at each stage of development of research work of libraries in Ukraine one of the main directions of scientific activity was the study of readers’ interests, the reading process and the analysis of book collections. In the conclusions on the materials of historical facts it is proved that over time the research work of libraries of Ukraine has become complex. During its development, it increasingly relied on sociological, historical, comparative, statistical and other scientific methods. It is revealed that research work of libraries, w

It is difficult to imagine our word without a book. It accompanies a person throughout life and is a valuable source of knowledge and information. The masters of Ukrainian printed books have written a bright page in the history of national culture and book heritage. They have created editions that are true artistic masterpieces – with their unique shape, the special beauty of Cyrillic fonts, engravings, screensavers, endings, capital letters and other design elements. The printing house of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra has published many liturgical books, among which a special place is occupied by the «Flower Triod», dated June 1, 1631. This is the first edition of the «Flower Triod» in Ukraine and today it is one of the rare editions. The book was published at a time when the Archimandrite of the Lavra was St. Petro Mohyla, who contributed to the development of book printing, education and paid great attention to providing national features for the printing house. The «Flower Triod» is an extremely luxurious publication that contains many ornaments and wonderful engravings. It contains many capital letters of various sizes and artistic incarnations. There are about 150 different capital letters, mostly red, one – black. This article briefly described the investigation of the capital letters of the valuable edition of the printing house of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra «Flower Triod» of 1631, one copy of which is now stored in the collection of old prints of the Volyn Orthodox Theological Academy. Analysis showed that the two types of capital letters are observed in this valuable edition: letters covered with ornaments and letters with ornamental-plot compositions. Rich and varied themes, iconography, compositional and artistic and stylistic features of miniatures-illustrations of capital letters, their placement on the pages of the book, etc. open many new opportunities for the researcher of the art of books, which in turn will complement the glorious history of Ukrainian printing and book heritage.
