Abstract

A new monotypic genus Deuterrisius gen. n. with the type species Deuterrisius tobiasi sp. n. is described. This is the second known representative of the tribe Risiini in the fauna of Australia and of Notogaea as a whole. The new genus is most closely related to the previously described, also Australian genus Austrorgerius Woodward; these two genera are united into a new subtribe Deuterrisiina subtrib. n. The new genus has a unique structure of the interalar scutellum whose apex, unlike that in all other Cicadina, is formed by a section of the metanotum; an incomplete realization of this structural variant is observed in the genus Austrorgerius.

Abstract

A new subgenus Clypeostetha subgen. n. is established for the jewel beetle Sphenoptera epistomalis Obenberger, 1927 from Northwestern and Western Kazakhstan and northwestern Uzbekistan (the first record for the country). Principal diagnostic characters of the new subgenus, an illustrated redescription of S. epistomalis, and data on its distribution and host plant are presented. The main diagnostic character of Clypeostetha is the absence of the clypeal suture that separates the clypeus from the frons in all the other known Sphenopterini.

Individual Variability and Modifications of the Movement Activity in Adults of Cheilomenes propinqua (Mulsant) (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) at the Day and at the Night Time 蟋蟀科成虫昼夜运动活动的个体差异和改变

Abstract

Laboratory experiments revealed considerable individual variability in the rates of day and night movement activity in starved and fed adults of the predatory ladybird Cheilomenes propinqua. Statistical analysis of the experimental data showed that (1) individual variability of day and night movement activity was determined by different parameters of Ch. propinqua adults, (2) environmental factors differently affected the level of individual variability of day and night movement activity, and (3) the effects of temperature and starvation on modifications of day and night movement activity were also different. These results suggest that the day and night movement activities of Ch. propinqua adults are determined by different physiological mechanisms.

Abstract

The gall midge Asphondylia miki Wachtl (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) was studied in crops of alfalfa (Medicago sativa ssp. × varia) in 2018–2022 in the forest-steppe of Samara Province. Galls were counted from the beginning of their formation to the end of the crop growing season in plots 0.1 to 1 m2 in area. The data were processed using ANOVA. The gall midge had two annual generations in the alfalfa fields sown in spring and in the perennial crops; when alfalfa was sown in summer, A. miki produced one generation during the first year. The pupae overwintered in galls, and adults of the overwintered generation emerged in April. The highest rate of damage to alfalfa by A. miki larvae (40–68% of generative shoots) and the highest density of galls (500–830 ind./m2) were observed during the first year of the summer-sown crop, when the flight peak coincided with the alfalfa budding phase; the seed loss was considerable (13–81%). On average, parasitoid wasps destroyed the larvae and pupae of A. miki in 60% of its galls in the summer-sown crops not treated with chemical pesticides. The gregarious ectoparasitoid Sigmophora brevicornis (Eulophidae), mainly infesting larvae, accounted for about 77% of the identified parasitoid specimens. The males and females in the S. brevicornis population had similar body coloration and belonged to three phenotypes: the lightest brownish yellow, yellowish brown, and dark, which comprised 53, 28, and 19% of the specimens, respectively.

摘要 对2018-2022年萨马拉省森林草原中紫花苜蓿(Medicago sativa ssp. × varia)作物中的瘿蚊Asphondylia miki Wachtl(双翅目,Cecidomyiidae)进行了研究。

Biodiversity of Feather Mites Parasitizing Passerines of the Lower Don Area and Quantitative Characteristics of Their Invasion 寄生于下顿河地区雀形目鸟类的羽螨的生物多样性及其入侵的数量特征
Q4 Agricultural and Biological Sciences Pub Date : 2023-08-01 DOI: 10.1134/s0013873823060081

Abstract

This paper presents the results of long-term research of the biodiversity and quantitative invasion indices of feather mites associated with passerines in the Lower Don area. Between 2001 and 2019, we examined 2246 passerine specimens belonging to 85 species, 47 genera, and 23 families and comprising the majority of passerine species in the region. A total of 86 feather mite species belonging to 15 genera, 7 families, and 2 superfamilies (Analgoidea and Pterolichoidea) were found on 83 species of passerine hosts. A detailed taxonomic analysis of the parasite fauna has been carried out. Four species of feather mites are recorded here for the first time for the Russian fauna: Proctophyllodes balati Černý, 1978, P. remizicola Černý, 1979, P. cetti Badek, Mironov et Dabert, 2008 (Proctophyllodidae), and Corydolichus calandrellicolus Mironov et Sayakova, 2001 (Ochrolichidae). The faunistic complexes of feather mites of all the studied passerine families and their specific features in the study region have been analyzed. Parasitological indices of invasion (intensity and prevalence) for each feather mite species on each avian host have been estimated by statistical processing of the long-term quantitative data.

Parasitological indices of invasion (intensity and prevalence) for each feather mite species on each avian host have been estimated by statistical processing of the long-term quantitative data.</p> </span>","PeriodicalId":11729,"journal":{"name":"Entomological Review","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139508703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
