This paper analysed the power oscillations of a transmission system when subjected to disturbance. When a power system is followed by a fault the transmission line power as well as the rotor angle deviates from its steady state value leading to system instability. A HS-FA based damping controller used to damp out the power oscillations along with a static synchronous series compensator. The lead lag structure of the damping controller improves the stability of the system by injecting a compensating voltage through series compensator. A harmony search -- firefly hybrid optimizing technique is used to tune the controller parameters. Integral of squared error (ISE) of the rotor speed deviation is considered for analysing the controller performance. Different disturbance conditions are analysed for verifying performance of the controller to damp out the power oscillations.

Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) is wholly a wireless community with a dynamic nature of position and network topology, which may change instantaneously with respect to time and application demand. Mobility factor of mobile nodes not only open gates for various applications but give big reason of packet loss. Transport Layer protocols like Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) have been designed for reliable communication. This paper addresses hybrid approach to overcome congestion situation and avoid packet loss in wireless networks. Proposed Modified Hybrid approach is the variant of Hybrid-TCP (H-TCP) and TCP Reno. Proposed Modified Hybrid - TCP variant consider the rate of increment parameter based on signal strength and noise factor to estimate a accurate retransmission time. Proposed Modified Hybrid-TCP is simulated using NS2 simulator and evaluated according to size of congestion window, packet delivery ratio, throughput with respect to mobility factor (speed of node). Performance observation concludes that proposed Modified Hybrid-TCP variant raises significant performance improvement during transmission over traditional TCP variants.

It is well known that radio channels are scarce but at the same time it is also true these resource are not utilized properly. Cognitive radio enables the secondary user (opportunistic user) to utilize the radio channels whenever the primary users are not using it. In this work, a model is proposed based on the concept of cognitive radio and GA that aids in better utilization of channels. The model has been simulated and simulation study indicates the efficacy of the proposed work.

Investigation of signal and image are presently an essential step of the heart diseases processes like diagnostic, prognostic and follow-up. Lung cancer is the most intense type of cancer among every type of cancer with less rate of survival. It is exceptionally hard to examine the cancer at its initial stage. In the previous couple of years, numerous Computer aided systems have been intended to distinguish the lung cancer at its initial stage. In medical imaging, diverse types of images are being utilized yet for the detection of diagnosis of lungs. In medical imaging, detection of nodule is standout amongst the challenging tasks. Computed Tomography (CT) images are generally preferred due to less distortion, low noise and better clarity. Detecting and then curing that disease in the initial stages offers the patients with higher possibility of survival. There are different types of the noise present in the images we obtain for the lung mass detection like salt and pepper noise, Gaussian noise and speckle noise. This paper is based on quality improvement analysis of digital dental X-ray image. Removal of noise from images is the most active field of research. This paper presents the review on the lung cancer, types of noise in medical imaging and then the methods for the removal of noise.

Carbon plays an essential role in the environment for climate change. The presence and absence of carbon directly affects all living beings. Trees inhale carbon for giving us oxygen. The environmental study of carbon is a major concern these days. Carbon Dioxide is stored in different five carbon pools of forest. Many countries are innolved in the research of environmental factors these days. The focus of this paper is to build a system using Naïve Bayes Approach that trains a model to classify forest on the basis of carbon stock and predict the level of carbon stock in the forest. The model is validated using dataset of the previous year data.

The deregulation and introduction of green technologies are the two key developments took place in electricity sector during the last decade. These developments have brought in several features into the system and increased complexity of system at planning ans well as operation level of power system. This paper deals with one of the key procedure of power system operation i.e., resource scheduling. In this paper, multi-objective aspects of resource scheduling in deregulated environment are examined treating both conventional and renewable energy sources as identical entities as per the market participation is concerned. The scheduling problem is formulated as a multi-objective problem with both economic as well as environmental aspects. The network and conventional/thermal generator constraints are remodelled pertaining to the market participation of renewable energy sources. Also, different scheduling scenarios are generated for analyzing the variation of different system and market parameters. The simulation results confirms the influence of weight factors or the importance assigned to objectives while the same have also affected the network parameters like scheduled renewable energy, reserve offer to market. Therefore, the proposed methodology can help in generation company/ independent system operator (ISO) in the selection of particular scheduling scenario pertaining to imposed compliances on emissions/renewable energy deployment obligations.

In the current deregulating environment, integration of Distributed Generation (DG) in the radial distribution network is one of the reliable and efficient options which can be used for reduction of power loss, improving the voltage profile of the system and stability. Optimal allocation of DG units is essential for improving the quality of supply and reliability of the network. Using voltage stability index, weak and healthy zone are determined. DG with same size is placed in weak and healthy zone separately. The voltage profile improvement, cost of energy saving and reduction of losses can be maximized by placing DG in weak zone. To reduce the computational time required for optimal allocation of DG, it is proposed to conduct its performance analysis only at the weak bus locations of the system. Therefore, the search space for optimal allocation of DG can be restricted only to the weak zone of the system. Taking account of operational constraints, a new objective function is formulated considering Voltage Profile Improvement Index (VPII) and Benefit to Cost ratio (BCR). An Exponential Particle Swarm optimization (EPSO) method is proposed for optimal placement and sizing of DG considering both full and reduced search space. The proposed algorithm is compared with other types of Particle swarm optimization techniques (PSO) such as Simple Particle Swarm Optimization (SPSO) and Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO). The best performance in terms of computational efficiency and solution quality is achieved for the proposed EPSO method.

This paper discuss the evaluation of different parameters involved in the solar cell modelling having variable input parameter. The objective of the research was to calculate the most optimized parameters of a solar photovoltaic cell. Solar photovoltaic is the fastest growing industry in the entire world because of its cleanness and easy in handling. The output of the system depends upon the construction and the material used in the system it is because the band gap energy varies for different materials over a wide range. In this paper different types of photovoltaic cells like monocrystalline, polycrystalline, CdTs were investigated to check their feasibility in the practical application of modelling. Additionally comparative analysis of the above materials were given for better understanding of their structure. Experimental analysis were carried out with MATLAB simulation to evaluate their performance.

Future generation of heterogeneous wireless network is expected to provide multimedia, multi class applications any time anywhere with required degree of Quality of Service (QoS). However, every application has different QoS requirement in terms of acceptable packet loss, jitter, delay, throughput etc. Therefore, in such environment providing guaranteed end to end QoS along with seamless mobility is an important and challenging issue. To address this issue an appropriate QoS mapping is a primary and important requirement. In this paper, an end to end QoS mapping scheme between integrated UMTS and WLAN network has been proposed.
