Prolonged sitting and poor sitting posture affect many people, especially in today's digital world. This poor posture and prolonged sedentary lifestyle can cause many health effects, such as back problems, impaired digestion, and even cardiovascular disease. The process of correcting poor sitting posture may be easier to accomplish with assistance, as it requires constant attention and correction to maintain proper posture. Thus, sitting posture monitoring systems may greatly benefit those who are looking to correct their sitting posture. Four pressure sensors were wired to Arduino Yun on a sitting chair, on the right and left of the seat and backrest, respectively.
Furthermore, a computer algorithm and coding software were applied to monitor postural imbalances based on the inputs from the sensors. After a thorough calibration, a user tested the system in three weekly sessions consisting of pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment modes to examine the system's functionality for monitoring the sitting patterns of the user. Our system was able to detect poor sitting posture based on different positions of the user throughout the testing periods. It could differentiate the postural changes that occurred between the three treatment modes. Our monitoring system may serve as a tool to detect poor posture and facilitate the correction of any imbalances in the posture.

As we enter an era of green energy sustainability, hydrogen gas is now recognized as one of the most futuristic energy carriers. A relatively economic and efficient way to obtain hydrogen is through water electrolysis, focusing on its degree of purity and consequently on the choice of the electrode, electrolyte, and operating conditions. However, in water electrolysis, electrode erosion, and metallic deposition, among others, are crucial limitations to overcome for the unit's long-term operation. This study explored the feasibility of fabric metallic electrodes to minimize electrode erosion and generate a consistent hydrogen output using the modified Brownlee electrolysis apparatus with the variables of types of fabrics and their wrapped lengths. These variables were examined with three brands of metallic fabric: TitanRF, Ripstop Silver, and Blocwifi Shielding fabric. Our experiments resulted in Blocwifi shielding fabric being the most efficient at consistent hydrogen generation with a 1.2% salt concentration generation rate, which was six times that of the baseline study without metallic fabric (P>0.05). Additionally, the visual evaluation of the electrode erosion showed that the metallic fabric electrodes were far less erosive than the platinum electrodes. Therefore, the study concluded that metallic fabric electrodes increase hydrogen generation. More studies might be worthwhile for detailed elucidation of the underlying mechanism and for defining the optimal fabrication of metallic fabric electrodes.

As exchanges with the global community continue to increase, the translation field presents significant challenges that capture the attention of researchers. The new era demands a reform in the traditional approach to cultivating translation talents. Particularly, the form and quality of practical teaching need improvement to adapt to the changing demands of the market. University translation studios can to some extent compensate for the shortcomings of traditional classroom teaching and workshop-style practical training at Polytechnic University. Taking the author's own university as an example, this paper explores the significance, feasibility, and operational model of the university translation studio. The paper concludes that the purpose of the university translation studio is to enhance students' translation skills, application of translation techniques, project management, professional demeanor, task handling, and teamwork capabilities. This kind of studio elevates the ability of both faculty and students to serve the local community and society, thereby making a positive contribution to the comprehensive development of the North China Electric Power University's Master of Translation and Interpreting program.

Regulation on animal research, largely focused on vertebrates, has led to greater expenses for researchers and institutions. Invertebrate animals, however, are rarely included in regulatory oversight, making experimentation comparatively more flexible and inexpensive. Yet, invertebrates are largely overlooked in neurophysiological research, even though the simplicity of invertebrate nervous system models has its advantages. While somatosensory, visual, and auditory evoked potential may be used for pharmacological and toxicological assessment of drugs in both animals and humans, only minor research carried out on invertebrates generally due to the disregard upon comparison between physiological phases or chromosomes of both invertebrates and humans. This study aims to analyze the viability of Lumbricus terrestris, or the common earthworm, as a potential model for electrical somatosensory evoked potential propagation and for drug safety pharmacology assessment. Varying intensities of electrical stimulation potential from 45 ~ 137 mV and accumulative substance injections up to 300 ul were to be used to evaluate telemetric-recorded changes in the evoked potential of the earthworm, and to track the extent of its reproducibility. Alcohol and caffeine, as they are two of the most commonly consumed chemicals in beverages among adolescents, and much was already known about their neurological effects, making the earthworm model’s response to foreign substances evaluable. Numerical changes in latent period, peak point, trough point and wave width of the evoked potential elicited by each substance were analyzed using regression analysis. We found that our peak point and wave width evoked potential parameters were highly indicative of the earthworm’s capability as an evoked potential invertebrate model, especially because responses exhibited expected outcomes of the excitable and inhibitory effects of caffeine and alcohol with high reproducibility.

In the 1960s, Halliday’s systemic-functional grammar gradually emerged in the field of linguistic research. It provides a theoretical framework for discourse analysis. The Orchid Pavilion is a widely circulated calligraphy and literary work in ancient China. Nowadays, many scholars have translated it into English, among which Lin Yutang’s translation is especially famous. This article takes the three meta-functions of Systemic Functional Grammar as the theoretical framework, and analyzes Lin Yutang’s English translation of Wang Shichih’s article The Orchid Pavilion from transitivity, mood system, modality and thematic structure so as to investigate the ways in which the ideational function, interpersonal function and textual function are realized respectively. It can also verify the applicability and operability of Systemic Functional Grammar in translation. In all, this article provides a new perspective for understanding and translating The Orchid Pavilion as well as offering a reference in understanding and translating Chinese literary work.

Sentiment analysis is an important natural language processing task that helps people understand the emotional information conveyed in texts. This paper aims to propose a sentiment classification model based on the combination of Word2Vec and LSTM (Long Short Term Memory). This paper will introduce two key technologies, Word2Vec and LSTM, combining them to build an effective sentiment analysis model. We conducted a comparative analysis between our model and other state-of-the-art methods including CNN, BiLSTM+CNN, Word2vec+SVM, among others. Through rigorous experimental evaluation, this paper showcases the effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed model in sentiment classification tasks. Our method attains an F1 score of 78.2% on benchmark dataset, indicating its strong performance in the task.

Conservation of water is one of the major objectives for any country around the world. Water management plays a very important role in a society, as it is one of the basic needs for the mankind. Water leak detection is an important task for ensuring the safety and efficiency of water systems. Deep learning techniques, combined with real-time sensor data, can greatly enhance the accuracy and efficiency of water leak detection. Water leak detection plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of water systems. This paper presents an investigation of the capacity of deep learning methods (DL) to localize leakage in water distribution systems (WDS). Progress in real-time monitoring of WDS and DL has inspired towards new opportunities to develop data-based methods for water leak localization. However, the handlers of WDS need recommendations for the selection of the optimal DL methods as well their practical use for leakage localization. This paper contributes to this issue through an investigation of the capacity of DL methods to localize leakage in WDS. Water leak detection is crucial in conversation of water, cost saving, infrastructure protection prevention of water damage and operation efficiency. This paper shows a proposal for a system based on a wireless sensor network designed to monitor water distribution systems, such as hotel industry, irrigation systems, which, with the help of an autonomous learning algorithm, allows for precise location of water leaks. Autoencoder neural network (AE), an unsupervised DL model, is further developed to detect leak with unbalanced data. The results show AE-DL model achieved high accuracy when leaks occur in pipes inside the sensor monitoring area, while the accuracy is compromised otherwise. This observation will provide guidelines to deploy monitoring sensors to cover the desired monitoring area. A novel strategy is proposed based on multiple independent detection attempts to further increase the reliability of leak detection by the AE-DL and is found to significantly reduce the probability of false alarm.

Air pollution is produced by a great diversity of emission sources, classified as mobile, stationary, area, and natural sources. Handmade brick manufacturing is an important activity for the economic development of several localities in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Despite the existence of other alternative construction materials, brick is the main option for the construction of housing designated as "low-income, middle-income, or high-income residential". The main objective of this work is to determine the respirable fractionated particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) derived from the manufacture of hand-made bricks in the area of San Agustin Yatareni, Oaxaca, Mexico. The samples were obtained during the period September 2022 to March 2023 in the brick-making area of San Agustin Yatereni, Oaxaca, Mexico. As part of the inclusion criteria, geological, climatological, atmospheric, and pollutant emission source differences, which influence the particle size distribution at each monitoring site, were taken into account; these samples were collected at 2-h time intervals. The dominant species during the selected period was tire-derived fuel (TDF).

This study adopted mixed research methods to investigate how ideological themes in social media political campaigns have influenced voters’ education and participation in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections. Through questionnaire and interview research instruments, the study found that in the last 2023 General Elections, Facebook was more often used for political campaigns in Nigeria compared to Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, google+, Facebook, WhatsApp and Blogs. These social media platforms, as the findings demonstrated, were more accessible to the voters thus, have easily became tools for political campaigns and were used to a great extent for that purpose. Unfortunately, as finding indicated, the ideological themes dominant in these platforms (social media) were to a great extent, negative as they were dominated by insults, abuse of opponents, hate speeches, falsehood, blame shifting, ethnocentric and religious undertones, anxiety and apathy among others, thereby, to a great extent, contributing to apathy among majority of voters in participating in the elections. Posting, commenting and sharing were the various ways through which those ideological campaign messages were spread to voters during the period of the last elections. The study concluded that social media has come to stay as platforms for use among stakeholders during political campaigns but its influence is abused by negative ideological construction which to a great extent, affects voters’ education and turn up in elections in Nigeria.
