The research was conducted from October 2022 – January 2023 in the waters of Balikpapan Bay, East Kalimantan Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the estimated carbon content of seagrass E. acoroides in the Balikpapan Bay Waters. The results showed that the density of E. acoroides ± 501 stands/m2 belonged to the very tight category. Biomass stored in the waters of Balikpapan Bay is the above substrate part of 592.54 g/m2, and the biomass in the below substrate part is 1218.57 g/m2. The estimated carbon storage at the above of the substrate is 264,32 gC/m2 and the value at the below of the substrate has a carbon value of 608,50 gC/m2.

Miang Island is a transportation route for coal ships and a place for loading and unloading coal, then there are also oil palm companies around this island. On this island there are also still islanders who carry out household activities in this area, such as washing activities, thus producing household waste in the waters on this island. Therefore, community activities carried out on this island can contribute to the burden of pollution of waters and reef fish in these waters, therefore it is necessary to conduct research on heavy metal levels that have contaminated organisms in these waters related to the pollution conditions that occur. This research was conducted in February 2023 in the waters of miang island and analyzed water quality and heavy metal content in the water quality laboratory and soil laboratory of mulawarman university. The parameters that will be observed are the analysis of heavy metals lead (Pb) and copper (Cu) found in reef fish meat and statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test by comparing heavy metal content in reef fish against water quality data. In this study, reef fishes that have been analyzed are Lutjanus decassatus, Pentapodus caninus, Ephnephlesu ongus, Lethrinus erythropetrus, Balistapus undulatus, Gymnocranius microdon, Plectropomus leopardus, and Priacanthus meeki. All fish species contain heavy metals lead (Pb) and copper (Cu), this can be caused by activities carried out by local communities that can disturb water conditions and have an impact on fish, In the Chi-square analysis that has been carried out on water quality at each station on Miang Island, the results obtained water quality gives an influence on heavy metals in the bodies of reef fish that have been caught in this study. This can be caused by water quality that is affected by heavy lead (Pb) and copper (Cu) from human activities in these waters, such as ship loading and unloading activities, and ship transportation routes.

Tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) is a type of shrimp from the Penaeidea family and is one of the caught in Samboja waters. This research was conducted in November-December 2022 in Samboja Kuala Waters, Kutai Kartanegara by catching shrimp at night using trawl fishing gear. The sample used was 100 tiger prawns (Penaeus monodon) with 42 females and 58 males. This study aims to determine the morphometric characters of tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and to analyze the morphometric measurements. In the analysis using Ancova, the results obtained were 12 morphometric characters of tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) with significant values greater than 0.05, namely RST, PK, PRT, PRN, PT, PP, PKB, PTB, PNB, PE and PTK . So based on the initial hypothesis, if the significant number is greater than 0.05 Ho, it is accepted, which means that there is no relationship between the morphometrics of male and female tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon).

Samboja Kuala is one of the Kelurahan in Samboja District which is an area where most of the population works as fishermen. There are two types of fishery activities in the Samboja Kuala area, namely capture fisheries (fishermen) and aquaculture fisheries. One of the most common catches obtained by fishermen is shrimp. Yellow-spotted shrimp (Metapenaeus monoceros) is one of the catches of fishermen shrimp in Samboja Kuala Waters. This study aims to determine several parameters of population dynamics using the carapace length data frequency method. The research was conducted in Samboja Kuala waters, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, in November-December 2022. Based on the results of the study, the sex ratio between males and females was 0,38: 2,65. The length range in male and female sex is 48,34 mm – 78,85 mm and 48,80 mm – 90,78 mm. And the natural mortality (M) of males and females was 1,27 per year and 1,65 per year, the capture mortality (F) of males and females was 0,63 per year and 1,64 per year, the total mortality of males and females was 1,90 per year and 3,29 per year, and the exploitation rates of males and females were 0,33 and 0,50. New additions of males occurred in October by 16,27% and new additions of females occurred in October by 24,93%. And it is known that the yield per recruitment value is 0.04 grams / recruitment.

The increasing use of plastic causes an increase in plastic waste in the environment, especially waters. Plastic waste that enters the waters will then be degraded into polymers less than 5 mm called as microplastics. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of microplastics in water and sediment and the relationship between microplastics in water and sediment in the Karang Mumus River in Samarinda City. Sampling was carried out at 3 stations in the Karang Mumus River then sample analysis was carried out at the Water Quality Laboratory of Mulawarman University. Based on the results of the research obtained, the types of microplastics found are fiber, fragments, films and microbeads. The most type of microplastic was found is film. The mean concentration of microplastic in the water was 3,04 particles/L and in the sediment was 1322,22 particles/Kg.
