Wavelength conversion of RZ-OOK signals in PDM systems based on XPM in high-nonlinear-fiber (HNLF) through a polarization-diversified loop is experimentally demonstrated. Less than 1dB eye-diagram-based SNR penalty is obtained for 10-G/bs RZ-OOK PDM signals.

An enhanced PCE-based end-to-end diverse paths simultaneous computing scheme is proposed for multi-domain networks. Simulation shows that the proposed scheme can reduce computation and communication overhead with low blocking rate.

Temperature stability based on high Ge-doped fibre Bragg grating (FBG) is presented. A high Ge-doped photosensitive fibre (PSF) used for writing FBG was manufactured. Temperature characteristic of the FBG from 20 to 300 °C had been researched. The transmission efficiency is about 75% at 300 °C.

We report the fabrication of extremely short linear-cavity distributed Bragg reflector fiber lasers (DBR-FLs). It has a total length of 7 mm, the shortest FL being reported. The FLs are characterized in details. We constructed a FL sensor array that has great potentials for large-scale, high sensitivity sensing applications.

In this paper, We propose a single sideband RoF system based on MSK modulation. One sideband of terahertz wave undergoes the single sideband MSK modulation while the terahertz wave is obtained via carrier-suppression double sideband modulation. The BER performance achieves 1×10−9 and the sensitivity of the receiver is −17.8dBm with a data rate of 5Gb/s after 40km transmission.

We investigate the polarization dependent characteristic of an acousto-optic filter in photonic crystal fiber and find polarization dependence is strong. By inserting the filter into a fiber loop, the polarization dependence is eliminated effectively, and the polarization dependent loss is reduced from ∼4.0 dB to <0.35 dB.

A drop and split filter (DSF) based on a self-collimation ring resonator (SCRR) in a hole-type photonic crystal is proposed and demonstrated. The DSF performance was investigated with the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation technique. By forming three splitters of the SCRR properly, self-collimated light can come out from two drop ports equally while no light come out from the through port. For the drop wavelength of 1550 nm, the free spectral range is 29.7nm, which covers the whole optical communication C-band window. This DSF may have applications in photonic integrated circuits.
