In the field of augmented reality (AR), geometric and photometric registration is routinely achieved in real time. However, real-time geometric registration often leads to misalignment (e.g., jitter and drift) due to the error from camera pose estimation. Due to limited resources on mobile devices, it is also difficult to implement state-of-the-art techniques for photometric registration on mobile AR systems. In order to solve these problems, we developed a mobile AR system in a significantly different way from conventional systems. In this system, captured omnidirectional images and virtual objects are registered geometrically and photometrically in an offline rendering process. The appropriate part of the prerendered omnidirectional AR image is shown to a user through a mobile device with online registration between the real world and the pre-captured image. In order to investigate the validity of our new framework for mobile AR, we conducted experiments using the prototype system on a real site in Todai-ji Temple, a famous world cultural heritage site in Japan.

Sports arcade games use a ball simulator to predict the trajectory of a flying ball with initial conditions, including ball speed and spin. Therefore, the accurate measurement of initial conditions of a flying ball is a critical issue for sports arcade games. In usual, high-tech equipment, such as Doppler radars and high-speed video cameras, is used for commercial sports arcade game systems. However, such high-tech equipment increases the system cost for developing sports arcade games. Multi-exposure cameras can be adopted for sports arcade games instead of using such high-tech, high-cost equipment. A golf game system with multi-exposure cameras has been introduced in the related work [Kim and Kim 2012]. In this paper, a new approach for measuring initial conditions of a pitched baseball with multi-exposure cameras is presented for baseball pitching games. The new approach can robustly detect baseball regions and surface patterns to measure initial conditions with high accuracy regardless of illumination conditions.

When a start prism and an end prism's vertices are in the same values on the projection screen, the shape model is viewed as an impossible figure. Therefore, if we can create the optical illusion object according to an arbitrary viewpoint, it is possible to create impossible figure that is viewed from the arbitrary viewpoint. We have already proposed and developed a method which animates impossible rectangle twisted torus figure from any viewpoint interactively and in real time[Nakatsu, et al. 2012]. Although the method of creating an optical illusion based on the optical illusion objects is a simple and classic method, this is powerful and robust all the more. Even when a viewpoint is moved to a wide range of area, the animation of an impossible figure can be created. We have extended the application of this principle to Penrose Stairs, and this paper presents that it was successfully realized when the viewpoint was moved freely.
