The sacralization of turāth refers to a form of unconditional admiration toward and blind acceptance of the content of turāth books, with the assumption that the books are free of mistakes or inaccuracies. The traditional Dayah of Aceh, a highly valued educational Islamic institution in the eyes of the Acehnese people, plays a pivotal role in promoting various religious understandings as prescribed in turāth books. In order to see to what extent this assumption is true, this field study attempts to investigate the use of turāth at Dayah Mudi Mesra, Samalanga, Aceh. This Dayah has earned much respect and trust from today's Acehnese society due to its role in the teaching of Fikah. The study was carried out to identify the perceptions of the ulama at the traditional dayah toward the position of turāth books in their study of Islamic sciences, especially fikah. This qualitative study employs various data collection methods including literature review, interviews, documentation and observations. In addition, inductive, deductive, and comparative methods were used for data analysis. The study found that the ulama of the traditional dayah in Aceh, in their studies of Islamic sciences, especially fikah, had regarded turāth books as being on par with hadith.

Communication is one of important aspects in forming a happy and prosperous family. Poor communication in family would give negative effects on emotions and psychology of the family members. In this context, Islam has a complete solution to address all problems related to families’ matters which occur in daily life. This article discusses about family’s communication from Islamic perspective according to Surah Āli ‘Imrān verse 159. The study found that the style of communication suggested for Muslims family is around gentle and soft speaking, musyawarah and family’s relationship sustenance. The former communication approach is explained through six kinds of language methods mentioned in the Quran namely qaulan layyina, qaulan ma'rufa, qaulan sadida, qawlan karīmā, qaulan maysura and qaulan baligha. These methods of language were employed by the selected ten Chinese research informants through semi-structured interviews. Descriptive qualitative analysis was conducted thematically. The findings showed that all informants emphasized the importance of using these methods as means of getting attention, generating love and sustaining family relationships.

The greatest missionary challenge throughout the church history is ministering to the Muslims. Previously, different approaches have been employed by the church with different settings; however, they yield little or no results at all. The need to address the challenge of Islam is ardent among Christian missionaries: therefore, in their struggle to propagate Christianity among Muslims as well as to maintain its diminishing number of followers, missionaries have been in search of new methods for Muslim outreach. Their newest discovery is the contextual approach that has been much debated in so many theological books and journals that explain its theological and practical implications. However, the methods of contextualization are said to have been successfully employed for missionary activities in some parts of the Muslim world and it has imparted to the Christian mission further significance and validity. To this end, at some level contextualization was rather accepted in regards to outreach to Muslims. This paper attempts to discuss the theological and practical implications of this new method of ‘contextualization’ in its various approaches and to see the element, if any, that distinguishes it from the former missiological methodologies of ‘Inculturation,’ ‘Identification,’ ‘Indigenization’ or ‘Vernacularization’ etc.

Music was an essential part of the philosophical knowledge in the classical antiquity and then in the medieval era. Music provided tools to foster a global speculative knowledge, and the classical Islamic thought developed different musical sciences. This paper tries to describe the different approaches to the musical phenomenon from an Islamic perspective, and the feasible transmission of this knowledge to Western music via al-Andalus. In doing so, the paper places attention in the Italian «Letter on Arabic Music» written by the Spanish Jesuit Juan Andrés in 1785, one of the first documents attesting this connection.

This study is a reflection into the methodological considerations that must be adopted to tackle the educational problem in the Arab and Muslim countries: the case of Algeria. The purpose is to discuss those methodological considerations that may pave the way to an objective approach of the educational problem in Algeria. This is to provide the researchers with some methodological tools to formulating the educational problem. An attempt has been made to address research questions, i.e. How should we conceptualize the educational problem in the Arab and Muslim countries: The case of Algeria? To conclude, this reflection requires us to give more importance to these methodological considerations to be able to state the educational problem in the ArabMuslim lands in the appropriate manner. And, the elucidation of the concept of the ‘problem’ in educational research is an inevitable necessity. This is to pave the way for Muslim educational theorizers to grasp the essential components of the educational problem as a basic step to resolve it. The reason is that the educational problem is one of the important challenges facing the modern state and the epicentre of the current global civilizational conflict. The desired model of man, is the pivotal concern of philosophy of education. That is why, the educational problem in the ArabMuslim lands is how to re-qualify the contemporary Muslim man to move from the state of being a backward man to the state of a civilized human being.

In Islam, Īmān (faith) is the bedrock and central-point-determinant of the yardstick to evaluate the extent to which a person has complied with teachings and precepts of Islam. The relationship between Īmān and ‘amal has been scholastically debated since the demise of the Prophet by the divergent Muslim theological groups ( firāq ). Since the first Islamic century, the debate has led to divisions among the Muslim Ummah giving birth to deviating sects such as the Khawārij , Mu‘tazilah , Murji’ah and the Shī‘ah with conflicting theological and ideological standpoints. Observably, the sects still exist across the Muslim world either in name or form at times with violent tendencies, causing havoc and challenging the inherent peaceful nature of Islam. This paper examined the theological viewpoint of the Khawārij and its impact on the Boko Haram insurgent group hatched in Nigeria but later spread to other neighbouring countries. Historical and comparative research methods have been adopted while using content analysis approach on the data collated. The paper discovered that, comparatively, the insurrectionary Boko Haram sect is one of the neo- khariji affiliates of the 21 st century due to their gross abuse of the concept of Jihad and misapplication of takfīr loosely on any Muslim other than them. This ideology is what they use to justified their actions against all others besides them. A group that causes havoc in Nigeria from security to socio-economic and religious instabilities as did the Khawārij to the early Muslim community. Therefore, it recommends that the dreaded sect should be combated not only with military force, but also with deliberate and well-articulated intellectual cum ideological counter-narratives to disabuse and de-radicalize the mind-set of its existing as well as prospective members.
