Latest technologies have always caught the attention of library professionals as such technologies have been considered as potential platforms to offer improved library services. In addition, library professionals have also kept in mind that such technologies can offer a good number of flexible options for library users. Many such technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Electronic resource management (ERM), Data mining, Artificial intelligence (AI), Blockchain Technology and Augmented Reality etc. are beginning to make an entry into library space. Such ultra-modern, cutting edge technologies are grouped under the category ‘smart technologies’. Libraries of engineering colleges have always had first exposure to latest technologies due to easy access. With this premise in mind, this research is done to investigate the extent of awareness about smart technologies among library professionals working engineering colleges of Karnataka and consequent adoption of such technologies by them. Survey method was used for data collection and collected data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for various parameters with findings that majority of the library professionals belonging to engineering colleges in Karnataka are already familiar with the term “smart libraries” and are using smart technologies for library purposes. Keywords: Smart libraries, Smart technologies, Internet of things (IOT), RFID, Library services, Web based services.

Marketing has a wide-ranging implication in its applications not only for profit generating organizations, but also not for non-profit organizations such as the libraries. The ultimate target of all academic libraries worldwide is user satisfaction and information services of which marketing helps to achieve in the utilizations and exploitations of library’s resources. Nevertheless, there seems to be a growing acceptance amongst the wider information profession that marketing is essential in libraries and information services. The study adopted descriptive research design, and data was collected by use of questionnaires. The target populations were twenty nine thousand six hundred and five (29605) comprising of 20 library staffs. The sample of 394 respondents was selected. The researcher used questionnaires and interviews as the tools for data collection. The study indicated that provision of library and information services should be available for marketing practices. Based on the findings it was recommended that trainings workshops and seminars should be organized for the librarians to enlighten them on how to market the library and information services.

Literature output on any field normally measured using the bibliometric analysis. This paper presents bibliometrics analysis of the Indian literature output on Alzheimer’s disease research. Alzheimer’s disease research data has been downloaded from ‘Scopus’ data base. For this study, publications commencing from 1970-2016 (47 years) has been downloaded from the database. A total of 2676 data have been identified. The objectives of the study are: To ascertain the global research output and the Indian research production on Alzheimer’s disease; to examine the collaborating countries with Indian authors in research production in Alzheimer’s disease; To identify the Indian organizations conducting the research in Alzheimer’s disease; To compare and measure the growth rate of literature published and To identify the top source titles of journals and contributors who publish research articles on Alzheimer’s disease. The major findings of the study are: research productivity at the global level and at Indian level reveals the linear trend; India stands 15th position at the global level in the research contribution in the Alzheimer’s disease; there is no much productivity from India during 1976 to 1981 in the field of Alzheimer’s disease; there exists fluctuation by year after year as far as RGR and Dt is concerned; Indian authors have collaborated with more scientists from United States followed by United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia and awareness on research on Alzheimer’s disease seems to be effective since 2009 onwards. Keywords: Alzheimer disease, Indian contribution, Bibliographic analysis, Relative growth Rate, Doubling time.

Present paper attempts to highlights the contribution of Indian entomologists in Indian Science Abstract online database. As the ISA database is an open source, 5 years database was browsed and efforts were made to check the research papers related to entomology. As it was first attempt total 308 papers were traced. In the study few parameters were used such as orders of insects, sources of publications, papers written on different aspects and journals mostly preferred by the entomologists. In the findings it was found that entomologists mostly write research papers on the order lepidoptera and few others. In case of publications it was noticed that most papers are published in annals of plant protection and then the journal Pestology. Considering the overall picture of Indian entomologists, author would like to suggest, the effective awareness should be created among the students, researchers and faculty and also a few core journals should be subscribed in the academic colleges where the subject entomology is taught. Keywords: Insects, Database, ISA, Users, Entomologists.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are a diverse set of technological tools and resources - used for creating, storing, managing and communicating information. For educational purposes, ICTs can be used to support teaching and learning as well as research activities including collaborative learning and inquiring. One of the main applications of the ICTs in higher education is teaching and learning based on these new technologies. The development of ICT has changed the traditional concepts of libraries, changed the nature of collections and the needs of users. The composition of ICT includes computers (Hardware and Software), Internet, Wireless technology, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and use of various library resources in ICT e.g. E-books, E-journal, Library network, Web OPACs, According to their needs user can access wide variety of information resources such as text, sound, image, Video etc. This paper includes traditional best practices, information technology based best practices like web page, institutional repositories, e-mail alerting services, extension services and general best practices also. Keywords: ICT, Information technology, Internet, E-resources, Library.
